I've finished the first book recently. I find it enjoyable, however, it's highly episodic and I see it mostly depends on Sigsawa-sensei's ability to come up with another absurd land for Kino to travel through. How does the story progress in the later books? Is there any emerging continuing plot?

While we at that, I've heard there's a new book from Sigsawa-sensei. Is it right?

Thanks in advance!

The first post in the thread links to it. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

I can't help with the rest, though - I'm waiting on the English versions from Tokyopop.

Oops... Sorry for not being clear - I mean the whole different new book, not new Kino.

Ooooo, that would be neat! I haven't heard anything about a new title, but I'll be keeping an eye out.

I can't wait till Tokyopop releases the english adaption of this series; it's definetly on my must-read list.

Kino never really developes a larger plot, no, but he hasn't started repeating himself at all. It stays just as interesting as the first one. What he does do is start telling stories about Shizu or Shishou as well.
Shigusawa has written four other books in six volumes. The Alison series is adventure books starring an air force pilot and her best friend; Lilia and Trais I and II are one story, really, again an adventure book about the children of the characters from Alison.
Since each book is one big dramatic story I prefer Alison to Kino, and hopefully Tokyopop will translate these are well someday.

Thanks! That's nice. Now I'll certainly continue with Kino and give Alison a try sometime later.

And the number one paperback this week in Japan? Kino's Travels IX.
If anyone bought the Japanese version, be sure to look on the back of the slip cover. God knows what the eventual English version will do with that stunt...
