The Chop gets my personal props for the first pick this entire draft to completely blindside me. I had Rachel pegged for a later round and did not foresee her getting snapped up on this side of the draft card in Round 7. Nicely done!

On the bright side, this just means I have to be more CREATIVE with my picks now. /images/graemlins/devil.gif

Tim Curry

[/ QUOTE ]
Well hot damn, that is very different indeed. I was rather astonished to see this pick, but thinking about it, he sure would make a damn good Gendo. Let's see what the other forum members think.

A fine actor he is, though I've yet to see the Cat Returns. I saw him first in Clue and then in Home Alone 2. Looking through his portfolio, he's done a lot of voice work for Disney.

I wonder if it's only me, but whenever I see the name Tim Curry, the one role that always comes to mind is the sweet transvestite from transexual Transylvania, Dr. Frank N. Furter. Yes, I've seen the Rocky Horror Picture Show a time or two.

Oh, that Tim Curry. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif As the first non-industry regular to be picked, it totally threw me and I was trying to place the name in one of the various talent pools.

He could be Gendo, but I think he'd be a fun Fuyutsuki. Or maybe Ben's making an early 10th slot pick and going for a "hey, babe" Keel Lorenz. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm not sure if I buy the range argument quite yet. Her Rumiko is my favorite performance thus far due to her acting ability. It's a great performance within a narrow range. She's doing some excellent work in Elfen Lied as well. I think she's got a TON of untapped potential when it comes to acting ability... we've only seen the tip of the iceberg thus far, IMO. She reminds me a lot of a young Hilary Haag.

Now I've heard some interesting things about her character in Godannar that might change my opinion. Looking forward to seeing if she can step outside of her 'range comfort zone' and surprise as Carrie Savage did last year with Marmalade Boy.

Excellent choice, btw... she'd make a fun Rei.

Big Board (http://home.comcast.net/~abersold/Draft.htm) updated.

Where a character was mentioned in the draft post, I attempted to find an image of that character. And that means that BigPants once again mentioned a character who does not lend herself to being easy to find in a straightforward Google Image first. So I gave up and went with Integra.

I also fixed the incorrect alt tags and updated the stas to the end of the sixth round.

Hmm, how do I put it? She does extend her range a bit, but not significantly. It's more a case of changing her delivery to create a new character. I still think you'll be very pleasantly surprised.

Time to unleash my sleeper pick of the entire draft.

Yeah, logic would tell you that I should go with someone more established... and I've had many an argument with myself on the matter... but there is nobody in my mind that can do the job better.

Except for possibly John Gremillion... but he's taken already. Heck, he's so good he was almost taken twice! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

So logic be damned! R. Bruce is a rising star in FUNi circles... even if Chris Bevins is the only one giving him choice roles. His Kambei rocks, his Kanzaka was vintage Gendo and, if nothing else, I'll have a guy who can deliver spaghetti western-style trailers for EVA episodes if Eva Christensen gets tired of gushing about 'fan service'.

The middle rounds do slow down, I guess. The first draft lasted barely 18 or 19 days and I thought this one would beat it the way it was going, but now it will likely be at least the same.

Right now it looks like we will be picking during the day on Thursday for rounds 7 and 8.

<Arcturus> Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! Statler and Waldorf refused to show up to give commentary, so instead, it's us two! This is Arcturus, coming at you live from the VA draft!

<martialstax> And I'm the poster formerly known as martialstax.

<Arcturus> We've had another couple of days of heart-in-your-throat action, although if you actually have your heart in your throat, I'd recommend seeing a doctor. Or at least having the heimlich maneuver applied. Stax, what were the highlights of the most recent round?

<martialstax> Seeing the avatars that Geoduck comes up with for the Big Board. In other words, it's been a spirited round, but nothing has really stood out as a surprise choice to me.

<Arcturus> Ben Phillips claimed the first Carolina VA of the draft, Juliet Cesario, most well known for playing Belldandy in Oh My Goddess. I'd say that was a great pick for as late in the draft as it was.

<martialstax> I think it shows that most posters have been focusing on the LA/TX/NY actors at the expense of some very good, talented people in Carolina. Even Vancouver actors took a while to get drafted. Speaking of Vancouver, Jocelyn Loewen was finally drafted by bctaris in the sixth round, surprisingly low for her, in my opinion.

<Arcturus> Yes, especially considering the amount of exposure she's been getting recently with Galaxy Angel and Nurse Witch Komugi. I would have expected her to be the first Vancouver actress to go. This pick helps to further solidify bctaris's female cast members, and provides him another option for the younger characters. In the meantime, PsychoRabbitt has shored up his female cast by adding Jessica Calvello and Carol-Anne Day.

<martialstax> Jessica's got some good exposure with her work both in Houston and in NY, and she's certianly got the talent. It's a good pick. I have to admit I'm far less familiar with Calgary's Carol-Anne Day.

<Arcturus> She'll be familiar to G-Gundam fans as the voice of Allenby, however my own exposure to Calgary dubs is limited. EmperorBrandon, who is currently on the clock, made his talent pool go "deeper" by adding Dan Green. Dan seems to have taken over for Crispin Freeman as New York's best all-around actor. I see him as a Kaji, or Fuyutsuki if EB plans on casting Steve Staley as Kaji.

<martialstax> He's a good solid choice, and has enough name-recognition that I think it will pay off for him. Actually, I need to correct myself. There was one surprise draft pick, and that was the sweet transvestite from transexual Transylvania, Tim Curry, aka Dr. Frank N. Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

<Arcturus> Also an addition to Ben's team. Curry qualifies for the draft due to his appearance in Studio Ghibli's delightful film The Cat Returns. I think a few more celebrity voice actors are going to be taken in the final rounds. It would not surprise me at all to see somebody pick Cary Elwes, Susan Egan or...dare I say it...Lauren Bacall.

<martialstax> I think Mark Hamill may be a another celebrity voice that will be taken in a later round. He'd certainly make a good Gendo. Huntressfan drafted a couple of excellent performers in Mike "Voice of God" Kleinhenz, and Daphne "Hana-chan" Gere. Daphne would be a great Rei, and Mike could be Gendo, though I'm thinking more along the lines of Fuyutski.

<Arcturus> Mike would be a great fit for Fuyutsuki, but given HFan's cast, he's the only option for Gendo at this point. Unless, of course, he has something up his sleeve. Daphne Gere is a good pick-up, and could potentially play Ritsuko if HFan isn't planning on using Jane Alan in that role.

<martialstax> Speaking of Fort Worth VAs, they had a good showing this round. Clarine Harp was taken by Splitter, R. Bruce Elliott was taken by B-Rad Lascelle, and Dameon Clarke was taken by Murasame. Though with Dameon moving to LA to work in feature films, can he really be considered a Forth Worth VA?

<Arcturus> Not to mention Eric Vale, taken in the round prior. And speaking of Fort Worth VAs who are now in Los Angeles, I see Travis Willingham is yet to be drafted. I'm sure that won't last long. There are, of course, quite a number of good voices left in Fort Worth, so drafters should pay attention to those. However, the talent pool that really has had the least of its potential tapped has got to be Austin. While there are no more dubs coming out of that region, Geoduck nabbed Shawn Sides in round six, while porkchop got Rachel Rivera in round seven. What do you think of these picks, Stax?

<martialstax> Both picks are excellent. Shawn Sides is a very versatile and skilled actress. I'm a real fan of her work. And Rachel Rivera's brilliant performance as Yucie in Petite Princess Yucie is the stuff of legends. There is still so much untapped talent in Austin, I'm really surprised the fans of Happy Lesson or Cosplay Complex haven't started asking why those VAs haven't been drafted. Corey Gagne and Josh Meyers are two that come immediately to mind.

<Arcturus> Vicious scored a good pick in Barbara Goodson, an actress well known for her lower tone. She might be a great Shinji, but I don't see Vicious casting her in that role. I'd say she's bound for Ritsuko.

<martialstax> I believe you're right. Vicious has always shown a fondness for Houston talent, but he's done a great job picking up excellent VAs from LA as well. Which leads us to Bitterman's choice of Erica Weinstein. How do you see BitterOsaka using her?

<Arcturus> You know, I'm not really sure. He has Mary McGlynn, Kelly Manison and Nancy Novotny. Weinstein could make a good choice for Misato, although it would seem unusual to draft for Misato this late. Perhaps he had McGlynn in mind for Ritsuko and wanted to secure her early.

<martialstax> Yes, I think he's pretty much picked all the adult female VAs he can at this point. I'm expecting more male or younger sounding female VAs from him in future rounds. Yukichan105 has picked up a great draftee in Rob Mungle. He's a versatile performer who can be both dramatic and humorous, and is a real scene-stealer. His only other male VAs taken so far are Jason Douglas and Clint Bickham. I'm thinking Fuyutski for Rob.

<Arcturus> All I know is that when Mungle was drafted, the people who missed out on him were probably shouting "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Nabeshinji made a couple of interesting picks, with Nicole Leroux and Sasha Paysinger. This should be enough to round out the female cast. It would not surprise me to see Nicole cast as Misato, but Sasha provides some interesting options - particularly after she's demonstrated in Godannar that she can play more than just little girls.

<martialstax> Sasha is someone who is really starting to impress a lot of people with her untapped range. I could see her as Misato, and Nicole LeRoux could be either Asuka or Rei. Moving on to Victor Lewandowski, he picked up Justin Gross from New Gen's excellent stable of talent. This is only his second male VA chosen after Greg Ayres. Justin could make an excellent Kaji.

<Arcturus> Kaji is looking like the best fit for Justin Gross. The only thing Victor really lacks at this point is a Gendo to build his team around. Another British voice actor went in the latest round, this one Victoria Harwood, going to BigPants. I'd say we're looking at a Ritsuko here, although Pants could always surprise us.

<martialstax> A British Ritsuko wouldn't be a bad idea. He's already going to use Rachel Hirschfeld for one of the younger girls, so that leave him with Kim Prause and Luci Christian. I'm thinking Luci for Misato, Kim for Rei and Rachel for Asuka.

<Arcturus> In the end, of course, the strategies remained locked in the minds of the drafters. How will their decisions pan out? Only one way to know! This concludes this evening's broadcast of our continuing coverage of the VA draft. Be sure to join us next time!

<martialstax> This is the poster formerly known as martialstax. Thanks for joining us, and stay tuned for more from the press box.

As always, a good, fun read /images/graemlins/cool.gif Good show guys! Now, my pick for Round Seven was a toughy (hm, wait, it's no different than the previous rounds). Ben sure surprised me with Tim Curry, but as I have stated, I've not seen the Cat Returns yet, so although I enjoy his work on the big screen, I'll have to nix him as a pick this time around (unless I get around to watching the movie).

Nabeshinji's team is very well balanced and it was rounded out further with my pick of the round, Sasha Paysinger. There's no denying such a cute voice and I feel the need to give her her props. (Gotta rewatch Angelic Layer).

Honorable mention goes to EB, with Julie Maddalena. Magic Knight Rayearth was on the mind not too long ago and she put on an very enjoyable performance.
