Personally, I really like Kekkaishi. I got clued into it through one of Viz's manga previews, so I picked up the first volume and got hooked. It's got it's stereotypical elements, yeah, but the character interaction is great and Yoshi's hobby of baking is a pretty unique character quirk. I like the scene where someone peeks into his notebook expecting to find something dirty and just finds all the blueprints for his cakes<G> Great humor.

Easily my favorite shonen title coming from Viz right now (its hard to believe this is better than Whistle! but its that good).
Like the other poster noted there are standard shonen elements but I enjoy the unique way Tanabe Yellow gets there and how quickly he moves to work on his cast.
Cool concept and fun designs too. Solid title overall.

The interactions between Tokine and Yoshimori just feels completely natural and unforced; it's quite a treat, isn't it? Even the way Tokine grumps and groans at his everyday pressures is something that I find very familiar. Just leave me alone and let me build my cakes dammit! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
YAY! I've found two others who are enjoying this title as much as I have! /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Tokine is great. It's suprising to find a female character in this day and age with such an obvious scar. Even moreso that it's not used to accentuate how good she looks (And she does look good<G>). I love strong-willed female characters.

Tokine is most definitely awesome. I really enjoyed how her and Yoshimori teamed up in this volume. After she used up all her powers after bringing it herself, she directed Yoshimori like a great field captain with some good strategy. The scene just really illustrated how well they work together and how natural it feels, even though they are from rival families.

In Japan, the first two volumes were released simultaneously, and I bought them both the same day, which is good, because the first volume didn't really work for me -- the humor felt forced, the story not really appealing.
But the second volume was much better -- it really starts to find a groove, balance the elements a little better, feel more unique.
It was strong enough that I went ahead and picked up the third volume, which sold me for good.
This is one of those series that just keeps getting exponentially better with every passing volume.

Gah! Now I am itching for more Kekkaishi. Nov 1st sounds too far away right now.

With all these good comments, maybe I should give the second volume a try /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif(didn't really like the first that much)
