Well...I know at least one person who's going to be especially happy (I hope). /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
Someday's Dreamers (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1598161784/qid=1128012941/sr=1-27/ref=sr_1_27/102-7745808-2404107?v=glance&s=books)

Also I think this might be new (I don't know what it is though):
Made in Heaven Kazemichi (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1598161644/qid=1128012941/sr=1-22/ref=sr_1_22/102-7745808-2404107?v=glance&s=books)

New manwha?:
Last Fantasy (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1595325263/qid=1128012941/sr=1-21/ref=sr_1_21/102-7745808-2404107?v=glance&s=books)

Probably the first Vol of the Gravi novels:
Gravitation (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1598164449/qid=1128012775/sr=1-20/ref=sr_1_20/102-7745808-2404107?v=glance&s=books)

And a DNAngel artbook:

Feder (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1598163906/qid=1128012775/sr=1-17/ref=sr_1_17/102-7745808-2404107?v=glance&s=books)

-Sandrylina-

edit: Changed Gravi to novel due to pricing.

The pricing on that looks like its the TP novel pricing.

If that's the novels for Someday's Dreamers I'll be sure to pick it up. Not sure if I would get a manga adaption of the series though if that's what it is.

And I'm glad to the DNAngel illustration book there since I've debating wether or not to pick up it up for some time. So it's good to know that I'll be able to buy it for a decent price now.

I wonder which one this is?

The first series (2 vols/A5/119pg & 111pgs respectively)
The second series (3+ vols/B6/170pg, 172pg & 172pg)

I am pretty sure its not the novels because the novels have a different author (the Yamada Norie is credited as the director/supervisor of the novels).

I think the only things that have ever turned out to be different from the Amazon solicitations have been the dates when things are released much later than what they were originally set for. And that seems to happen the most often with Viz, not Tokyopop.

Guess it's safe to say that I've already finished translating that two-volume Someday's Dreamers manga as of last Thursday. (It was rough watching people saying it would NEVER be licensed. EVER. Oh, the urge to spill... but NDA's have to be honored /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif ) As usual, I worked my butt off to make sure readers can truly enjoy their experience.

And if I may say so, I have to agree with people who love the art in it. At the end of the first vol. there's a page or two showing character lineart from the anime with some notes about the differences. The anime ones don't look bad, but the manga ones are truly inspired. Or at least, give off a whole different "feel". Not in a bad way either.

Not being a prior Someday's Dreamers expert, I was surprised to read that er.. there's a second manga series? And novels? Or are those one in the same or something? Wouldn't know, and I just translate 'em, no involvement in the dark arts of licensing. I hope people aren't too disappointed this wasn't a novel /images/graemlins/happy.gif It's pretty good on its own. Guess we'll see what the future holds.

Yay, another from my very first AoD Most Wanted manga thread. Of course, my list was all about what I was <trying> to read at the time. So far from that list I've gotten W Juliet, Kimi wa Pet, Yami no Matsuei (boo to Viz for editing /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif), Never Give Up and IIRC Koko wa Greenwood and Monster. Still missing KOR, Rose of Versaille, Mint na Bokura and Gokinjo Monogatari (sp?).

Finish Slam Dunk

My feeling was that the story was hurling towards very preachy territory at several points and then... narrowly swerved into something a hell of a lot less 6x4-over-the-head than I was sort of expecting. I came away feeling that the author had avoided pitfalls through better writing, totally to her credit. She uses a very human touch. I haven't seen the TV series to compare.

kio

I didn't think the anime was too preachy within the context of the story. I did think that there was a lot of preaching between characters about the way to "morally" use their gifts. But that was a very important or significant part of the story, so I expected that and liked how it was done there for the most part. If you guys are talking about the anime being preachy to the viewer... I can see how some of that could be taken as an anime trying to force ideals on the viewer, but I personally didn't feel that.

I find that a lot of character- oriented; slice of life-ish; "follow your heart and do what is right" (tm) anime can be seen as overbearing with the presentation of morals to the viewer. But whether or not its intended to be that way I'm not sure. I think it would be hard for any anime to convey a story about characters dealing with morality without the viewer questioning the choices made in the story and applying what the anime is trying to tell us to ourselves (perhaps the viewer would have made a different chioce than the character given a similar situation). I think there's a fine line between seeing an anime as trying to decide for the viewer what is right and what is wrong; and seeing it as something that is possibly only trying to make the viewer think about or question these things.

I think morals (knowing/learning right and wrong, etc.) and the repercussions of choices made based on those morals are a big part of anime like this since they tend to be so focused on the characters and some sort of learning experience or life lessons. I really liked Somedays Dreamers and similar stories involving themes like this, though, so I found all of this fun to watch /images/graemlins/happy.gif. I've heard lots of good things abou the manga too, so I will be keeping an eye out for it when its finally released.

The new titles are up on Tokyopop's website now--although a couple of them appear a bit rushed:

Gacchagacha is listed under that name, but on the actual series pages the title logo is 'Gotcha Gotcha'. And Never Give Up is listed as 'Neba Giba', though again its 'Never Give Up' on the web-pages and the picture of the first cover.

And to answer my own question, the 'Made in Heaven' Tokyopop has licensed is a manga based on the Ami Sakurai novel. Artist is Yukari Yashiki.

Not being a prior Someday's Dreamers expert, I was surprised to read that er.. there's a second manga series? And novels? Or are those one in the same or something?

It started out as a novel series, I believe. Someone else would have to say whether the anime or manga came next in publishing-order, but I think all of them pretty much follow an overlapping set of characters within (mostly) the same span of time. So they're not necessarily a set of A-B-C sequels.

As for the moralistic nature of the story, it pretty much comes with the territory. Someday's Dreamers is a quiet, coming-of-age story with a liberal helping of side stories about the other characters' motivations and feelings. A bit of an afterschool-special atmosphere is bound to exist, but I didn't get a feeling of overt propaganda from it.

That helps a lot, thanks. I have my Slayers novel experiences but just didn't know in this case.

Comment on the preachiness: There's not room for much of it with this 2-vol manga. The message is there, but like I said before, it's delivered in a sufficiently creative and human way that's not nearly as abrasive as it could have been with lots of repetition. But, you'll be able to judge for yourselves anyway.
