Sweet! Since the winners haven't even been announced yet, I can be the first to react.
Ahem...
So, those are the winners, eh? Interesting. Yes, very interesting, indeed!

Thanks for the support guys! I'm genuinely shocked. Just goes to show that every last vote in these things counts! /images/graemlins/shy00000.gif
Look forward to squaring off against some excellent casts in the finals. Victor, Bitterman and the Chop all had stellar casts and they've got nothing to be ashamed of. Really glad to see Porkchopexpress land as many votes as he did... he had some really inventive casting ideas and surprised me a bunch of times during the draft so I'm thrilled he fared well.

What? You're rooting for the enemy? Is he supposed to be the lesser of two evils or something?
You know we're all in the VoxBox right now if you want to join the chat and see people's reactions live.

Heh, cool. I voted for you in A, so right back at ya'. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
And:
B - Me
C - EmperorBrandon
D - Vicious
Thoughts:
pce - Sekiguchi, Dickson, Regal, Regan and Billingslea pushed that one forward for me. Some fun wildcard chemistry in this one.
EB - Marshal (the Shinji I wish I'd thought of) Brown, Hollingshead and Green particularly made me vote for the team. Probably the best pure chemistry was on this team over everyone in the draft, I think.
Vicious - Wittenberg (the Shinji I wish I had a chance for) Cousins, Cummer, Mercer and Smallberries made his cast special in that group. Hilary as Hikari totally works.
As for me in my own group, I really had little hope I'd win. I made a fatal strategic error for this forum by not managing to secure anyone special from any Texas studio. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Didn't mean that to happen, the draft simply ended and I looked up and noticed what I'd done. I know little with the Ft. Worth crew, but the handful I wanted from Houston kept going two or three places before me. But with the strong fanbase among users here for that part of the industry it may as well have been a blunder of epic proportions. Oh, well. Better showing than I thought. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
Congrats, BigPants, B-Rad and Ben Phillips! (What's with the "B" names? Maybe I should have capitalized mine...)

Congrats to the winners! For the record, these were my votes:
A - B-rad. Eva Christensen, Caitlin Glass, Michael Adamthwait, and Shelley Calene-Black were my favorites of his cast.
B - BigPants. I doubt anyone is really suprised here. Favorites were Kevin Corn, Luci Christian, Victoria Harwood, Aaron Dismuke, and Chris Ayres.
C - The Duck. Favorites were Shawn Sides, Mia Bradly, Kirk Thornton, and Jerry Jewell.
D - Huntressfan. Travis Willingham, Mike Kleinhenz, and Rachel Lillis were my favorites of his cast.
All the casts were great - picking which I liked best wasn't an easy choice. It was lots of fun watching.

Thank you to everyone who voted for my cast. B-Rad said I had an unstoppable legion, but he still came through in the end.
Murasame getting only two votes doesn't surprise me. The number of ringers from the GameFAQ's Anime VA tournament (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1163841&page=0&view=colla psed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1) he had made his team look like Naruto on clone jutsu testing day in the first episode. Every other team had at least three ringers on their teams, where he had only one, his first pick. I even fed him a pick after the five VA omelette from round 5 because he was the one who drafted the VA that was later determined to be a legit pick and I let go because I already had someone better picked before that call came down. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

It's almost time for the Anime Draft finals... otherwise known as, B-Rad Versus Those DubReview Guys. Sounds like fun! /images/graemlins/cool.gif
First off, to announce my one and only casting change.
As novel as it was to have Patrick Stewart voicing my penguin, I've rightfully... and necessarily... bestowed that honor upon a new candidate and veteran of mascot voices, Brianne Siddall. So Brianne will be pulling double-duty.
And while it may be tempting to swap out the little known R. Bruce Elliott for Patrick Stewart, I'll leave my designated Keel on the sidelines. R. Bruce's work in FMA, Spiral and Samurai 7 is just too good and too right for Gendo to brush it aside for politics. Given the other Gendos I'm up against, I think he matches up just fine and dandy.
Time to dig a little deeper and see how my cast matches up against these top-tier finalists...
BEN PHILLIPS
Shinji Ikari - David Umansky
Rei Ayanami - Juliet Cesario
Asuka Langley Sohryu - Lisa Ortiz
Misato Katsuragi - Wendee Lee
Ritsuko Akagi - Christine Auten
Gendo Ikari - Tim Curry
Kouzou Fuyutsuki - William Frederick
Ryouji Kaji - Jay Hickman
Pen Pen - Samantha Inoue Harte
Maya Ibuki - Kelly Sheridan
BIGPANTS
Shinji Ikari - Kevin Corn
Rei Ayanami - Kim Prause
Asuka Langley Sohryu - Rachel Hirschfeld
Misato Katsuragi - Luci Christian
Ritsuko Akagi - Victoria Harwood
Gendo Ikari - Chris Ayres
Kouzou Fuyutsuki - John Tyson
Ryouji Kaji - Eric Vale
Pen Pen - Luci Christian
Kaworu Nagisa - Aaron Dismuke
B-RAD LASCELLE
Shinji Ikari - Brianne Siddall
Rei Ayanami - Bridget Hoffman
Asuka Langley Sohryu - Caitlin Glass
Misato Katsuragi - Eva Christensen
Ritsuko Akagi - Shelley Calene-Black
Gendo Ikari - R. Bruce Elliott
Kouzou Fuyutsuki - J. David Brimmer
Ryouji Kaji - Steven Jay Blum
Pen Pen - Brianne Siddall
Toji Suzuhara - Michael Adamthwaite
HUNTRESSFAN
Shinji Ikari - Johnny Yong Bosch
Rei Ayanami - Daphne Gere
Asuka Langley Sohryu - Rachael Lillis
Misato Katsuragi - Dorothy Melendrez
Ritsuko Akagi - Jane Alan
Gendo Ikari - Joe York
Kouzou Fuyutski - Mike Kleinhenz
Ryouji Kaji - Travis Willingham
Pen Pen - Tiffany Grant
Keel Lorenz - Richard Epcar
Anyone else find it interesting that we all have 'different' optional characters? Gives each cast it's extra little bit of contrast and flavor. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
As was the case in the prelims, I'm boasting the only female Shinji in the litter. Up against two capable guys who could work wonders with the role in JYB and Kevin Corn. Umansky's pulling up the rear, however I suspect most people were ultimately won over by his Asuka-Misato-Ritsuko triumvirate and Jay Hickman as Kaji.
That actually brings up an interesting dichotomy in that all three of these teams have powerhouse Misato candidates... could result in some compelling vote split scenarios. I think I'll do my best to dig up some choice Giant Robo clip material for Eva over the week. May even grab some clips of R. Bruce sounding menacing to go alongside 'em. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
One thing I would encourage people to do... for the benefit of both my fellow finalists and myself... is to not make a quick one-off decision on which cast is the best. Every one of these has their strengths and highlights... they wouldn't have won their brackets if they didn't. So weigh your decision over the course of the week and only make your final choice when you're dead set on an ultimate winner.
And may the best cast win! /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Same here. I didn't really care where anyone was from. The only thing that handicapped me when it came to casting my votes was whether or not I could recognize the actor. If I could not hear their voice in my head then I couldn't know what I thought about them playing their part. I didn't recognize Vicious' Misato, and that mainly kept me from voting for his awesome cast.

I would definitely play again if the draft follows this setup, ie: casting a show we are given. If its a make up your own cast deal like the first draft I think I will sit it out and provide my thoughts and make snarky comments from the sidelines.

The TV series was released by Animeigo and dubbed by Coastal. ADV did the fans right on this one and outsourced the dub to Coastal so we wouldn't have a VA change.
And after you do check it out, you'll be thinking you should have voted for me. But by then, it'll already be too late because you already cost me the VA Draft championship trophy. Hope you can sleep at night. /images/graemlins/depresse.gif

A note to dispel any confusion: Mercer is not in Miami Guns. /images/graemlins/wink.gif (Besides Scott Houle and Pamela Weidner running things, I think Scott Bailey is the only former VA in the MG cast. And Nicole Gibson (Yao) is no longer even with Phoenix...having moved to Phoenix with Charles "Chief Amano" Dee Rice.)

I think what cost Murasame the most was his choice as Shinji (Julie Ann Taylor). The rest of his team is good enough to take on anybody, but I don't recall his Shinji choice ever doing any male characters that I know of. IMO, the VA he used for Shinji would have made a better Rei.

And GantzPants drafted more or less the same way that I drafted my team (three cities only - Houston, Fort Worth, and Los Angeles), though his team leaned more toward Houston whereas mine leaned toward Los Angeles.
Also, looking at the Narob's Picks (http://home.comcast.net/~narob82/AoD/2005_ETVA_Draft_Narobs_Picks.pdf) from before the first round, his team was tied with mine, while the other 3 teams are the top three point totals from that list.
As for my vote, I already announced it the night I lost with this strategy. And my vote goes to you, B-Rad, the one who bested me when all signs were pointing to my legion winning, but a come from behind rally proved to be my downfall. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I put alot of thought into my vote. I thought about it long and hard, then I thought about it some more. I then got up and got a drink (a peach snapple if you are wondering), then proceeded to think about it even more. I went back and forth, every team has people I like in roles and people I don't. I thought about it even more, then I needed to hit the bathroom (the snapple). I came back from the bathroom, and I needed some clarity, I needed to step back from the computer. Watched a Law and Order SVU rerun (someone was raped, big surprise). Afterwards I had forgotten who I was going to vote for and had to do it all over again.
Ben P-Christine Auten was my favorite Ritsuko and Jay Hickman my favorite Kaji. Wendee Lee could do Misato in her sleep. He was just barely edged out by Bigpants. I almost voted for my nemesis.
*edit* forgot to shake my fist at him, being my nemesis and all. *shakes fist*
B-Rad-Shelly as Ritsuko, Blum as Kaji and Bridget as Rei are very solid, but he has my favorite Asuka out of the four. I have only heard Caitlin as Winry, but I saw her as the most stand out Asuka. I'm sad to say I'm not familiar enough with the rest of his cast to form a solid enough opinion.
Huntressfan- I like all his actors, but alot of them just didn't strike the right chord with me in their assigned roles. Travis Williangham as Kaji was my favorite though. As much as I love Dorothy Melendrez and Rachael Lillis, they just didn't sit right with me as Misato and Asuka. Although I'm surprised I didn't vote for him just because of his Ohno avatar. Its like some kind of hypnotic cuteness tractorbeam. Can't look away.....
Pantz- Luci Christian is perfect for Misato. Perfect. Victoria Harwood as Ritsuko with or without the accent, perfect. Kevin Corn as Shinji? Perfect. The only one I wasn't sure of was Rachel Hirschfeld as Asuka. Rachel is awesome, but all I've got to go on in my mind is Anita and that girl from Anthology who thought her parents were going to commit family suicide. I just didn't quite think she would sound right. I'm probably wrong but until she plays a similar character to Asuka I just won't know.
And there you have it. I'm sure you were all dying to know my thoughts, and now you can all rest easy.

Always the doubter. Unlike your shoddily run VAotM awards, I always have a contingency plan. Both teams would have advanced to the finals. If it got to be more than 5 or 6 teams in the finals, I would've put the teams with ties in a tie breaker pool and let them battle it out.

I voted for your team B-Rad, but just barely (certainly wasn't an easy choice). Your team doesn't have any particularly noticeable weak spots (or casting choices that just seem to strike me the wrong way), so it gave you an edge IMHO (since you already had some leads I really thought would be excellent, same as the other teams). I think there's two or three on your team I don't know well, though so you also got the benefit of the doubt on that one (since one of them is one I really liked in SotMM, and another one is one bctaris really likes, and he can't be wrong /images/graemlins/wink.gif).

Nope, never wrong. /images/graemlins/wink.gif And we think alike. I admit that Siddall grew on me for Shinji more I thought about it. And Hoffman, Brimmer and Christensen edged this one over the others. Blum, like Freeman on Vicious' team, is a major name brand player I take for granted and therefore didn't add or take away points in the overall appraisal. But the general strength in casting for the others I wasn't as familiar with helped a good amount.
And I had to ignore my favorite VA in another cast to do it. /images/graemlins/sad.gif B-Rad owes me. Assuming he wins, of course.

Blum is likely a name most anime fans will be familiar with (kind of like Wendee Lee, who is also on a team that won /images/graemlins/wink.gif), so it definitely would seem to help out a lot. He is also opposite of Kouichi Yamadera in a role that is well-known for both of them, Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop. I don't think Blum would be a good counterpart for Yamadera in many cases (Freeman would probably be much better for the most part), but this definitely seems the kind of character Blum could handle well.
One thing I'm pretty impressed about in B-Rad's team is his use of R Bruce Elliott for Gendo, who strikes me as a very good choice given what I've heard of him and what I can expect of his range. This is a choice that I definitely hope isn't overlooked too much.
EDIT: And dang, I didn't even know B-Rad had decided to go with Brianne Siddall as Pen Pen. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Very nice! I really love her mascot roles (Ikariya owns all /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif)

Anyway, thanks for your comments! Truth is, when Vicious mentioned that the finalists can rearrange their cast, for a few minutes I debated on doing it. I would have had Dorothy as Asuka. Rachael would have been Maya. Richard Epcar might be an interesting Gendo. I'd put Tiffany Grant as Misato(which I think would've been really cool). And Joe York will end up being Pen-Pen. Maybe my cast would've ended up stronger... but I guess I just felt I'd go with my original cast list. It was the cast I had in mind during the draft and it got me to the finals, and I'm quite happy with it! /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Good move on his part in my opinion. Brianne has seems to have more experience voicing mascot-like characters than Bridget (or at least what I've heard so far). She does a really cute Ruby in Saint Tail in addition to Ikariya.

I dunno... I somehow remember you trying to influence the votes of Voter Pool D quite a bit. There was lots of besmirching of the Rabbitt's team... and with a vote so close, who knows how that could have affected things? /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well, that was different. My team was involved in that one. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
But I did it in a side thread anyways and not the main voting thread. So there.

Having this kind of discussion works here and is working very well. Having a side thread for voting discussion to discuss picks, strategy, and for everyone to campaign their teams or rant about the teams in the draft is something we need to remember to do if another character draft ever happens come spring. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Hmmm, I was thinking of something interesting to do during the voting period(instead of just waiting for the results). I thought it would be fun to do some "VA character trash-talking", which would have the participants choosing dub quotes from any role that the VAs on their team had done and use that quote to "trash talk".
"There's now way you can beat me, Lina Inverse! And this time, you will know the bitter taste of defeat! Hahaha!" - Martina in Slayers Next
(okay not exactly the best example since the quote was directed at Lina, but something along these lines)
Of course, BigPants will just use Ran Kotobuki to out-"trash talk" all of us. /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
Anyway, I guess I'll use this post to say what I liked about the other finalists' teams.
Ben Phillips: I like his Wendee Lee as Misato, since I think she'd do an excellent job with the role! Jay as Kaji and Christine as Ritsuko are cool too! Sami as Pen-pen *grin* and I still can't believe he got Shinji as his last draft pick! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
BigPants: I like that his cast has a whole bunch of youngsters. Kevin, Rachel and Aaron are cool and interesting picks for the teen roles in the series! Plus Luci as Misato RAWKS! Victoria as Ritsuko is smashin'! Overall a great solid cast! /images/graemlins/cool.gif
B-Rad Lascelle: I really liked his strategy in this game. He went and looked at some potentially overlooked roles of some VAs, and was able to get assemble an impressive cast! Brianne as Shinji was a great casting choice, and getting Caitlin as Asuka was cool! And I'm still surprised that he was able to get Shelley at Round 6, I really thought she'd be picked up earlier than that! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
Overall, all casts are well thought out and really excellent finalists! /images/graemlins/cool.gif
To end this post, I wanted to say, it was fun playing this game!! All of the participants were really competitive and did an excellent job in building their casts! I'm glad I didn't pass up this chance to play this game. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Hey thanks, I appreciate that. On your team, I think Bosch, Lillis, and Melendrez were excellent picks, Mike Kleinhenz would make a brilliant Fuyutsuki, and Tiffany Grant is an inspired choice for PenPen.
Can't wait to see how this comes out, and whatever the outcome, I'm truly honored that my team was selected to compete in the final round amongst such worthy competitors.
Wait a second... I just remembered, I'm supposed to be the Silent Assassin! What I meant to say was:

Yeah, regardless how the results pan out this was a lot of fun. I've gotta give Vicious credit... he came up with a fun idea and executed it to perfection.
Every team in the finalist bracket has some remarkable talent... if anything, I'd have liked to have seen even more kids on GantzPants' team. Plus, it's a shame he had to keep Shannon on the sidelines. Ben did an admirable job assembling an adept cast with little EVA exposure and HFan's team is perfectly well-rounded and just plain awesome.
Best of luck to everyone and look forward to seeing you all in VoxBox as the results are announced.
Can't wait to take another crack at this next year although I'll be passing up on the spring draft for the 'mystery show'. My preferred choice of show for next year's draft would be Cardcaptor Sakura... but other popular choices from Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo and Sailor Moon are also worthy candidates. My sleeper pick, of course, going out to the Crest/Banner series.
If nothing else, the only thing I'd like different next time around would be more advance warning on which show we'll be drafting so we'll have more time for researching possibilities.

I think a Takahashi series is one of the better choices for a solid balance of male/female/kids/etc. roles. (Especially kids. It'd be nice to have to cast in that range.)
I may or may not try to join in from the Spring Mystery draft, and if I do I won't partake of next Fall, certainly.
But this has been enjoyable, despite this having been effectively ended for me for the last week. Thanks for the competition, good luck to the finalists, and finally, thanks for the eight people who wasted their votes on me. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Actually, just looking up at the banner ad, Patlabor would be great, too. Might bring it more the attention it deserves, as well.
Of course, I'm thinking that every title we mention here could be specifically ignored by Mr. Draft Administrator. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks for all the votes, guys! Shame the winner doesn't actually get to hear their designated dub cast record an ep of the series. Wouldn't that make for an awesome prize? /images/graemlins/cool.gif
