I just started watching Gilgamesh tablet 2, and thought the little things that Steven Foster did while recording were very cool. Recording dialog by candle light. Having all the actors wear black when they came in, etc. Helping them into character and setting a mood. I wondered if any other directors had tried something similar during their recording sessions on other shows. Probably not right? Well then heres a question-
What show's dub could this have helped improve?
For example, I think the dub for Daphne in the Brilliant Blue is top notch. But say Sam Regal had all the actresses cosplay as their respective characters (with the help of double sided tape I would assume) while recording their lines. Would this have made it even better? In a word, yes. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
Ok, go ahead and discuss.

Only if it were included on the DVD as a behind the scenes extra! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I think in Steel Angel Kurumi, they should have made the VA's cosplay while recording. Especially all the angels. /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif

Mood-enhancing decor to help set the scene for compelling and creative ADR work is a discussion topic that holds a lot of merit.
Let's not dumb it down by going off on a tangent about hot actresses cosplaying as their scantily-clad characters.
How does that improve dub quality?

I don't know, but it sure as hell would help sales . . . alot.
Especially if they were to have Lust from FMA . . . /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif

Their just having a little bit of fun, besides even perversion can have its place for a little bit of creative fun here.
Besides I know that they generally do the VA work sepeartely for Ocean on Anime Dubs. But with shows like Ranma 1/2 you can only imagine just what happen if they were a little more together at the recording. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I haven't heard it yet, but your post just reminded me of the paired off recordings in Godannar.

ADV did some paired-off recordings in the past: Pam Lauer and Jessica Calvello in Dirty Pair--I believe Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 and maybe Dirty Pair Flash were recorded similarly as well.

I'm thinking of a certain scene from Magical Play.
The contest of eating for a flower mark, if Larissa Walcott and Samantha Inoue-Harte really did have to stuff thier faces with butt loads of food, the scene would be even more funnier then it already was but then again, that sounds more torture. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
As for the rest of the show, cosplaying would help, Larissa would just have to be cute considering she be in a cute fish outfit and Leigh Anderson Fisher would have even more of a reason to scream since her outfit would be extremely revealing. /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif

I believe a similar thing is was done for the Metal Gear Solid dubs: the actors came in dressed like their characters, including accessories (David Hayter carried a fake gun, I believe). I dunno if they did this for the three games released so far or just the first one*, but I thought it was pretty cool, especially after seeing some pictures- some of the actors looked a lot like the characters!
*Not counting the NES games as they didn't have any voice overs.

I kinda feel sorry for the guy who played Psycho Mantis. For those of you who never played MG Solid (shame on you) Psycho Mantis looked like an S&M gimp wearing a gas mask.

I have tried to come up with a few ideas, but I'll admit they are more like funny little gimicks that may or may not have any real bearing on an ADR session if they were implimented.
Cast of-
Princess 9 - play a game of softball together at least once before ADR begins. I suppose something like this could have been do-able.
Azumanga Diaoh - ADR sessions in an empty classroom, with the main cast all together. I know what a nightmare it would be to do a full cast ADR session, but it would have been cool.
Midori Days - Make Drew Aaron wear a hand puppet. Easy.
Planetes - Take a ride on the Vomit Comet. Mildly unlikely.

For Genshiken or Comic Party, take the entire cast to an anime, comic, or SF con. And if you had a really big budget, Comiket.

Matt Hill has said in interviews that in order to play Kira's crybaby scenes in Gundam Seed, he would have ADR director James Corrigall kick him in the crotch beforehand.

Hell, the Genshiken cast should go on tour as an 'anime con' theatre company and just recreate scenes from the show. If they got the timing right, this would be unbelievably awesome and I've gotta believe they've all got the obligatory stage experience.

Hehe, the yucky piece of rolled-up paper. They also had that runny baseball, I believe.
I think that Rachael Lillis should have been/should be handed a sword (at least a plastic one), anytime she plays a character who wields one.

Speaking of baseball, I'm sure Janice and crew down in Houston must be ecstatic over the Astros winning their division series. And in 18 innings, no less. Two games for the price of one.

Hmmm...having the voice crews for Lodoss War, the Slayers, Gokudo, and Berserk all decked out in armor and weaponry while recording thier lines. They could have WETA furnish the props. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Now how to have Lisa Ortiz and Cynthia Martinez simulate a DragonSlave. We'd need to blow up a city block.

Yeahyeah! And for Yugo they should have had Jason Douglas strapped to a burning rock, then we could get some ants and a knife and...er...well...maybe not.
There were still some Gilgamesh leftovers lying about when I recorded for Moby Dick. I can't say the creepy tree and lanterns really set the scene, but I'm not sure what would.
