I just got the New Patlabor: New Files Collection and was a bit suprised to find out that only volume 1 is dubed. It seems to be the same as the one that came out a few months ago. I was told that they aren't going to be dubing the rest though. Haas anyone heard anything about this or know where I can find more info on it? I ask because the main viewer of the series is my daughter who isn't old enough to read well so a sub version isn't much use.

There was no real official explanation or announcement from CPM on the matter. Only that their current rep, Peter Tatara, posed a question in the R1 forum a month or two back asking whether people would mind if dubs were not included on older niche (i.e., low selling) series if it would mean they would at least have a chance to be released. (Signs probably point toward Votoms not getting a dub, I'd wager.)
Either way, they gave the impression with the peculiar release of the New Files series that not dubbing the last two volumes was the only way to get it released. Maybe, but after 12 volumes of dubbed Patlabor material from them, and with only two to go, it didn't leave a very good impression, no matter how low selling. Especially without much warning and in a cut-off fashion--some fans, including myself, would have been more pleased if they simply stopped the dub at the end of the TV release if they were going to drop it at all.

Thanks for the info. Wish I had seen that post. If it was the only way to get them released I guess its better to at least have them, but I wish they would have stressed to retailers that only the first volume was Dubbed. Personally I thought the dub was pretty good and the voice acting well done. I hope this doesn't become a trend. Especially after, as you said, 11 volumes. :-)

The question was buried in the middle of a convention news thread I think, and it was informal so I don't think it impacted very much.
Yeah, I always kind of liked the dub, too, at least after the first couple volumes. Admittedly I think it's an average dub but there were some great stand-out performances throughout from the likes of James Wolfe, Michael Schwartz, Adrianna, Dan Green, Tara Jayne, Frankie Rome and Angora Deb, among others. Schwartz's Goto is by far my favorite performance in the whole show. Elisa Wain as Noa I still never warmed to 100% but she had some good moments here and there and at least had the energy just right.
