What are the ADV Gamera dubs like?

UK only has the first Gamera movie & only as a dub. The dub is OK but Manga who did it replaced the music with thrash style music (I think its thrash).

Has ADV's US dubs kept plain, or are they jazzed up any, like its anime dubs? Does the ADV dub keep the original Japanese BGM?

What VA's do which roles?

ADV kept the original music, and the dubs are quite good. Tiffany Grant plays the female lead in the first and third movie. Paul Sidello plays the police investigator who works with her. The second movie had a second dub, the infamous "Lake Texarkana" dub, with everyone doing thick Texas accents and having a bunch of fun with the script, rewriting big sections of it. It also had a ton of hilarious outtakes. The third movie had a commentary with Gamera himself, as well as the other creature, and an actor who has been in every Gamera movie ever, but only in small roles like Soldier #6. Of course it's all made up, but it's funny as hell.

I guess they missed out the first one because of manga having the rights (I love the cockney accents though!)

Are the subtitles the original Japanese subtitles or have the been renamed for release in the states? Reason I ask is i'm trying to match the three ADV Gamera movies to the ones they used for Mystery Science Theater 3000 and see if anyone them are the same. I thought ADV was doing the modern Gamera series, not the original classic ones that appeared on MST3K?

Yes, ADV released the 90's Gamera movies not the 60's/70's Gamera movies. None of the 90's Gamera movies was ever on MST3K.

Yes, ADV released the 90's Gamera movies not the 60's/70's Gamera movies. None of the 90's Gamera movies was ever on MST3K.

And to the guy who posted the list of older Gamera films. Stay away from the dubs for those! Far, far away if possible.
You know the way the 70's Godzilla films had crappy dubs but were hilarious ("You mean?" "Yes, Godziller" etc)? The English dubs for these are torture!
