New issues of Kindaichi Case Files used to be issued regularly. I haven't heard seen any new issue in ages. What's the status like now?

Volume 12 pt. 1 (Playing the Fool, IIRC) is streeting on or about 11/15. One presumes it will be followed by Volume 12 pt. 2 approximately 4 - 6 months later.
After that, I'm not sure what we can expect. I love Kindaichi but I definitely get the impression it is not one of Tokyopop's better sellers. /images/graemlins/depresse.gif
If they continue to publish, I'll continue to buy. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

The book coming out this month is like the fattest book ever... Definitely worth $9.99! Support Kindaiichi!

Absolutely - I've had this volume on preorder for an ungodly amount of time, and can't wait to get it!
One thing I'm not sure of - how long is Tokyopop's run going to be in total (assuming one volume per remaining case)?

From what I understand, they combined Playing The Fool back into one volume. I don't think the experiment with the "Kindaichi The Killer" 2-parter worked very well, especially with a 4+ month wait between parts 1 & 2. Which is fine by me, though I'd love to see the book published more regularly... /images/graemlins/depresse.gif
Edit: Fixed some grammar

Woot! I've been waiting forever for this release and now I won't have "forever pt. 2" to endure. Yay!

I have to ask, there's no more volumes listed at Tokyopop. Is Playing the Fool the last saga in the set they licensed, have they just not updated yet, or do they not plan to release any further?
I've had this on special order at the bookstore I work for a long time, because I'm eager to get this. I'm really annoyed by Tokyopop's massive waits between volumes just because the sales are declining.

I haven't seen any Kindaichi on my local store shelves in an age (including old issues). I was very much looking forward to thumbing through that last issue with the blatant spoiler in it...but they never seemed to get it in.
And here's me assuming it had just been released on schedule and was just being ignored by my booksellers...

While it bothers me a bit, I honestly prefer waiting 4-6 months between volumes (heck - it's been about 8 months per volume for AMG and Blade of the Immortal for years now) than to have a series cancelled outright, which is the only other real option for a title that isn't making money. We've been spoiled over the past few years because of the manga boom, a slow-down was inevitable.

Vol. 13 is currently scheduled for May 9th...subject to change, but generally once it appears on the website (and stays there) you can count on the date...
[Edit: No, I don't know what the title of 13 will be, and at the end of 12 instead of getting a spoiler-ridden preview, you get...no preview at all, eh heh heh...]

*Breathes sigh of relief...* I'll admit, I was getting a little worried there too. I knew the wait between volumes was fairly long, but with listings through March already out, I was starting to lose hope. I'm glad TP hasn't given up on Kindaichi, despite the reported low sales of the book. Maybe TP could do some sort of promotion to increase people's awareness of it, as I think it's a fantastic book that may have gotten lost amidst the boom of a couple years ago.
Also, Peter, out of curiosity, do you know what the 'title' of volume 13 will be? /images/graemlins/happy.gif
Edit: Fixed spelling

If all future cases (including "Playing the Fool") are released in single volumes, then taking into account that "Kindaichi the Killer" was two volumes, the series would run for 20 volumes total.
There were 19 cases in the original run of Kindaichi.
After the original series, there were two more series, of 10 and 5 volumes, respectivly. Dunno if Tokyopop licenced the other two series though...

It's been a very long time so I may well be misremembering (or confusing it with Boys Be and others) but I thought licensing the others was dependent on how the original series sold--which means it doesn't look very good.

Truthfully, I've never heard anything about it one way or the other. Possible, yes, but I didn't mean to imply that it was likely either.

House of Wax. (When you asked, no title was yet assigned.)
And no, Kindaichi is not (yet) canceled, unlike has been reported on a couple blogs in the past couple days--I believe there was some kind of communication error. Current policy still seems to be for nothing to get canceled, but there's still every need to continue supporting the series if you like it.

Oh, the House of Wax case is one of my favorites!
Though one strand of advice. If you're ever on like a vacation or something and you see Kindaichi there, RUN AWAY!!!!! Every where that kid goes, a serial murder spree begins.

How many volumes of Kindaichi have yet to be released. Since they are condensing some of these stories into one volume I am just curious how far away we are from it being actually finished. Playing the fool is what volume's in the japanese edition?

Sounds like a recipe for "Disney's Death Note" /images/graemlins/tongue.gif Though the crimes would have to be tamer for that - perhaps have them face off as a theme park event. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
Of course, now that I think about it, it sort of sounds like the part of Spiral in the anime (genius vs genius). I hope TP eventually publishes that as I'm pretty eagerly awaiting it. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

Assuming that each future volume contains the entire case file, there are 8 more volumes left to be published. Don't remember what volumes "Playing the Fool" (The Tarot Card Lodge Murder Case) were in offhand though.
