The third and final volume of Ogino Makoto (http://www4.airnet.ne.jp/kujaku/)'s cancelled Onryoji contains some interesting information (Ogino has taken to doing an afterword in every volume he releases now.)
He was quite surprised to get cancelled, since he never had been before (not that he really finished the last couple of books, but both of those were cut off when his health collapsed.) It sounds like Seinen magazines have been forced to adopt the Jump policy of cancelling any book that doesn't poll well. In the past, they could afford to let an artist grow, especially if the book was getting better and the tankoban sales were adequate, but no more!
The game just got more dangerous.
Ogino then promises to change titles, names, and character designs and continue the story in another magazine.
