Exactly what I was thinking! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
So what exactly IS Kage Kara Mamoru about, anyway?
I suspect it's based on the light novel series rather than the manga, which only started being serialised last month.
Anyway, as far as I can tell from the covers, it's got moe character designs, schoolgirls and ninjas. So probably absolutely nothing like Kyou Kara Maou /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Based on that splash page? I'd say highly unlikely.

It´s Seinen serialized in Monthly Comic FLAPPER (http://www.comic-flapper.com/).
It appears that the actual series is based on a novel also released by Media Factory.
Completely off-topic, but the okama covers for FLAPPER are so droolworthy /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

i checked out this show simply cuz i love the designs in the promo art. sadly the detail in the promo art is lost (which is expected) and thus the designs look very average (but still appealing to me). Ep.1 was okay, it's a romantic comedy mixed w/ some action. Animation was pretty average which i guess is disappointing for a 1st episode, however episode 2 looks to remedy that a bit. speaking of ep.2, i can't wait for it as my fave gal, Tsubaki (or motoko from lh /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif) makes her debut, i also like the lead Mamoru, he's pretty cool, unlike most. His next fight will be awesome.

I couldn't agree more with your assestment of the show! Mamoru is a pretty cool guy just by watching episode one. Yuna is just too darn cute and innocent, though she already knows what she wants by the looks of the picture she keeps hidden. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif. I like the test she give Mamoru that night, even though Mamoru is clueless. There is already a hint of a love triangle in the happenings.

This show reaks of sugar, Ranma 1/2, and Mouse. Animation and art? Cruddy as well.
However; since most anime nowadays is composed of T, A, spineless male leads, and Mai-Otome; I'll give this one a chance.
I wonder how big the "Motoko Fan Club" is now? We have Love Hina's Motoko, Hanaukyou Maids' Konoe, Negima's Setsuna, (Mai-HiME's Shizuru?), Mei-King's Tsubaki, Ai Yori Aoshi's Miyabi, and now some character herein this show?
Hmmm...

Well, The Motoko like character appears, but I don't think she has the personality of Tomoko. Only similarities is that she is a Samurai girl and she kind of likes the Main character. I found her likeable and she has a girlish side to her. I do have to say she looks a lot like her though! /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif

Well, I watched eps 1-3 recently and I'm liking this a surprising amount. When I saw how Mamoru looked I feared for the worst, but when I found out he was actually an elite ninja... awesome! XD
Also, Yuna is totally, amazingly, rediculously adorable. I love her voice actress too. Tsubaki and Yamame are fun too -- what rediculousness (yet hilarity) with the cat suit in ep three XD
Anyways, this show is a definite winner in terms of pure cute comedy, and I can't wait to see more.
I found the first episode to be interesting enough, especially Mamoru's parents, but I've put this on the backburner temporarily to drudge through some other stuff.

Well, I liked episode 4. where all the girls enter an Idol search contest. Yuna is the winner of course, but the producer only wanted to have sex with her, Mamoru beats the heck out of the guy. A real agent want to make Yuna into an Idol, but when Yuna mentioned about telling her friend Mamoru, the agent tells her she need to stop friendships with boys.Yuna declined because we all know she is in love with Mamoru.
In episode 5 Mamoru goes on a date with Tsubaki It is not a real date, but that is what Mamoru's mon called it. They are actually looking for an Underwear thief that dresses as a ninja. Tsubaki thought it was Mamoru and after the misunderstanding was cleared she enlisted his help.
Mamoru failed to help her the first night because he had to help yuna. When his mom heard them talking about he not being able to help her because of his duty to Yuna, she said he could go on a "Date" with Tsubaki the next day to search for the Ninja. That she will handle the protection of Yuna.
She sends the dog to protect Yuna, but when some office ladies give the dog some food, he forgets about Yuna. Mamoru found that the dog is not with Yuna and leaves Tsubaki alone. Tsubaki captures the thief by herself. Mamoru goes to See Tsubaki that already changed back to her traditional samurai uniform, and Mamoru tells her that she looks good wearing it, which made her blush.
Also in this episode we see Yuna acting Jealous when she see Mamoru and Tsubaki together. Tsubaki wears a hot outfit during the "date".

In this episode we get introduced to the final girl in Mamoru's Harem.

The episode starts with Mamoru being attacked by a
Ninja on his way home from the store. After a fight
and Mamoru defeating the Ninja, a Kunoichi
(female ninja) appears and rescues her partner.
The next day at school, a new transfer student
appears, Hotaru. All the male students fall in
love with her with the exemption of Mamoru.
At lunch time Mamoru, Yuna and Airi go to their spot
on the roof to eat lunch. They are talking about
Hotaru and how all the boys are in love with her.
Airi asks Mamoru if he also likes Hotaru, Momoru
answers that he is not interested.
Hotaru appears and tells them that she has a favor to
ask, to hear her request. She confesses to Mamoru
in front of Yuna and Airi and ask him to think about
it and give her an answer the next day. It takes
the three of them a few seconds after Hotaru left to realize what just happened.
When Mamoru gets home, his parents have prepared a
feast to celebrate Momoru having a girl friend
and thus continuing the Kage legacy. Mamoru is
not that happy about it. Tsubaki and Yamame are
spying on the "celebration" and they both
come out clean with their feelings for Mamoru.
At the same time in Yuna's room, She is looking at
the picture of her and Mamoru in a sad way. The next
day when Mamoru comes to pick Yuna up, Yuna's mom
tells him Yuna has a fever and will be staying home.
She is actually depressed and don't want to be at
school when Mamoru gives Hotaru his answer.
Mamoru tries to approach Hotaru to have a talk
with her, but Airi tries interfering everytime
he is going to ask Hotaru by pushing him away.
Mamoru evades her and she falls on the seats in
the class room. Mamoru finally is able to ask
Hotaru to go outside and have a talk. Airi whispers
the expected "Mamoru no baka".
Outside Mamoru turns Hotaru down, she starts crying
and Mamoru tells he has someone he already likes.
She asks who, but he can't bring himself to tell her.
They get attacked by the Ninja and while protecting
Hotaru he gets hurt and has to escape. He is badly
hurt and Hotaru is with him, he tells her who is his
important person and the he has to protect her, then
faints. The male Ninja appears and tell Hotaru to
do her duty, you guessed it, hotaru was the female
Ninja. She can't bring herself to kill Mamoru, and
gets on the way of her brother.
When it seemed like Hotaru was going to have to fight
her brother to defend Mamoru, Mamoru stands up. When
Mamoru was unconcious, Hotaru kissed him and use
her Ninja skill to heal him. After Mamoru defeats
Hotaru's brother, she explains what was the cause
for their grudge against the Kage clan. Of course it
was something silly about them losing a Ninja
competition. After they lost, her father getting a
bad back from that depression, their mother gaining
400 pounds and her brother becoming a nerd.
Hotaru gives her good bye to Mamoru and disappeared
with her brother. The next day Hotaru was not at
school and all seemed to have gone back to normal.
The follwing morning there is a surprise during
breakfast. Hotaru will be now living with Mamoru
and his parents.
It seems now that all the female characters are present, the show go in Full Harem mode. The next episode have the girls all preparing a bento for Mamoru.

To be honest until yesterday, I never watched a single episode of this series. However I decided that I may as well kill time and see what on earth this show is supposed to be. I'm currently watching episode episode 4 right now.
I haven't decided which girl is my favorite yet. Especially since I'm sure more girls will be introduced. However so far I like the series. It's quite fun to watch. I think I'll probably stick with this one definitely.

Well even if I pick a favorite girl, that doesn't mean I'm going to root for her. If by that we mean get together with Mamoru. Simply because as crazy it sounds, I don't believe that just because a girl is my favorite she should automatically get the guy. Although I admit it can be hard to resist rooting for her because you want her to be happy. As for the idea it's going to be Yuna, well given that Yuna is the main, the entire mission to protect her family, and standard story telling. It's a safe bet that it will be Yuna, unless they plan to pull a surprise. So the real question is not who, but when.

Just got done watching this. Wasn't really expecting that sort of ending. I thought it would just end with Mamoru and Yuuna together. Oh well, I suppose it leaves it open for a second series....
Overall I really enjoyed the series. Not something I would usually watch, but I took the chance and it paid off. My favourite girl was definitely Yamame /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
I'd love to see this series licensed for R1 but I'm not sure what sort of chance it would have.

The series was pretty nice over all. As for the ending It may be for the best since this allows Yuna to go back to her carefree life. I'm sure the two will eventually get together when the time is right. It's just that this way, Yuna will have less of a guilt trip about things. Assuming of course Mamoru can find the right time to confess everything. Which may be hard if Yuna stares carefree even years later.
I thought it was a perfectly appropriate ending for such an airheaded series myself. It wasn't too bad, but I don't think my brain could take a 2nd viewing anytime in the near future.
Just finished this. My recommendation to anyone who wishes to check this series is: watch everything but skip the last 3 minutes. Seriously, the last 3 minutes really pissed me off. Had the show ended at the 19th minute point, this could easily be one of my top 10 anime of the year.
