Magical Project S was not bad, however, with Tenchi series, after Tenchi series, and the spin-offs, I am tired of Tenchi. However, it doesn't mean I won't be watching it. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

So long as it's got Pixy Misa and Konoha (http://tuffy.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=133878), I'll be picking it up (somehow).

I loved Magical Project S, hope to see more of it someday. This is cool news! Scary to think the Tenchi series is over 10 years old and still ongoing, and that Sasami has had almost as many series as Tenchi.

Hopefully, Funimation (if they have rights to it) will recruit Sherry Lynn to reprise her role as Pretty Sasami in english.

Agreed. But please let it be a continuation of the TV series. We need both Pixy Misa & Sammy's Dad. Coolest villain and dad ever!

Awesome, it seem like more Pretty Sammy, though under a different name (I wonder if this will be a third continuity?) In either case, I concur that Misao/Pixy Misa definitely needs to be back, whether she's a part of the "club" or not. /images/graemlins/happy.gif
Glad we have finally got some confirmation on this now. Being the Pretty Sammy fanatic I am it will be great checking out another series (one of the two out of my "great four" that I really want to see more /images/graemlins/wink.gif)

Being a magical girl series (and Pretty Sammy not being a series known for selling well), I worry about the prospects of this being licensed at all, and if that I fear it may not get a dub as with Magical Project S. Hopefully it won't come to that, though. FUNimation seems to be doing good off of Tenchi franchise now.

Sweet deal, although I'd hoped to see Hiroki Hayashi or Katsuhito Akiyama back in the director's chair for this one. Still, it's Sasami, it's AIC, and it's new. I'll be paying close attention to this one. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif I wonder if we'll get more Azumanga out of this one?
I'm tentatively quite excited about this since I love Magical Project S (although, after Fukuyama's "Project S" in Girls Bravo vol. 3, perhaps that title should be retired). Seeing that this will be directed by the director of Tenchi in Tokyo has me worried. Why, oh why, couldn't it be Katsuhito Akiyama again?

It would also be nice to throw some characters from Battle Programmer Shirase (there's a Misao that looks like the one from Sammy, but without magical powers, in the series) into this universe. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif Give Washu some rivals in programming, another girl to add to their class, and other weird situations.

The "Mahou Shoujo Club" part of the title intrigues me. Definitely seems we may have some girls working with Sammy rather than have her as the sole protagonist this time around. If continuation of MPS, I guess we could assume they may be Misa, Connie, and Amy, but could be some new characters here. Of course, the title seems to remind me of another series I like (hmm... unintentional?)

Well after looking at the official site, it seems more likely this will be an alternate universe series. Although it seems like it may have a sentai theme this time. Still Sasami and Misao look younger than they did in either the OVA or the TV series. May take some time to get used to.
I was hoping Funkie Connie would be in it, but it looks like there's no chance of that. Unless Anri the green haired one is the new Funkie Connie. Also I suppose Pixy Misa will be a villain again, I'm still hoping she'll start the series as a good guy.

i liked the tenchi in tokyo designs and the story... also loved the new love interest for tenchi... she was way better than the 2 bimbos that always hound tenchi.
but the designs here really do rub me the wrong way.... it'd be ok if it wasnt a tenchi spin off but it is. If it aint broke dont fix it... too bad they did and broke it.

Hmm, Sasami's new design reminds me of some fanpics from inexperienced fan artists, where they don't know how to draw hair properly. Moreover her redesign looks worse than that of the new characters. Maybe it'll be better once it's animated. Washuu is ok I think and Mihoshi looks great.

Interesting that they decided to change her hair color, but Misao is still Misao. I thought it was her when I first saw and decided to check the url of the image to see if it confirmed it was Misao. Yeah I like doing that. Of course it only works if the url actually says the name of the character and not something generic like cha-01 or whatever. Lucky it did say Misao.

I was really excited until I saw the character designs. :/ I'm still excited about the story and the fact that it's more Pretty Sammy, but the character designs seriously bumped it down my priority list a bit. Mihoshi looks fine, Washu and a few others are okay, but some of the rest, particuarly Sasami... XP. Why?
I hope that the designs are just a joke and when it starts airing they'll put up the real images.
Other than that, I hope Sasami's dad from Magical Project S is in this. He's the coolest dad ever. I want to be just like him when I'm his age. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Easy answer! Girls 1 and 2 are a couple ie Sasami and Misao. 3 and 4 are a couple. The remaining girl is extremely horny wants to have girls 1-4 at the same time. I can't believe I just said that.

I really don't have a problem with the character designs, as long as they can make it work and can keep the same humor from MPS. Depending on how AIC handles this, it could be a refreshing change to the series. But then again AIC's recent works don't exactly give me that much confidence in them either.

Translations of the character profiles:
Iwakura Sasami: She was born with strong magic powers however, her parents made her promise never to use it A cheerful and friendly girl, cooking is her strongest forte. Together with classmate Misao she is a member of the cooking club, which in reality is just a front for magical girl club and since that they she joined the club, her destiny changed forever
Shinohara Misao: like Misao she was born with great magical powers...she transferred to Sasami's school one year ago and she still isn't used to the environmet she had a rough childhood, often being a victim of bullies together with Sasami she is a member of the cooking club However.......
Hozumi Makoto: the third member of the "cooking club" she is self conscious about her short height and oftens proclaims that she will grow up faster she has a strange habbit of drinking milk whenever she gets the chance reasoning that it will make her grow up faster however, as a result her stomach often gets upsetted which results in frequent visits to the rest room
Takamine Tsukasa: the fourth member of the "cooking club" a level headed, mysterious girl whose emotions is hard to read her mother died during her childbirth and she was raised by a strict father in addition to that she is instructed to never use magic
Mizuki Anri: school idol however on contrary to her image she is actually hot tempered
And in case you were wondering, the girls are all fifth graders.

Yeah, though it's a magical girl show (and uses some of the Pretty Sammy names), it seems like it's actually going to be quite different from both of the Pretty Sammy series, which is interesting. I'll have to wait and see how the series is itself, but I've never really been disappointed in the Tenchi franchise (and the magical girl parody aspect of Pretty Sammy is what made it really stand out as my favorite part).
AIC has been good with voice continuity, so I'm hoping they will keep things straight there (Rumi Kasahara MUST be Misao, dangit!). Of course I will be curious as to who will be voicing the new girls here...

My sentiments as well. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif Put her in as Konoha or Kris Christopher, I don't care. If she's in the show, it's a better show.
I'd also hope the staff for this show has the presence of mind to make Tohru Miura the school principal again.
As for the backgrounds on the characters, here's my hope that this show wasn't conceived as some kind of pale follow-up to Petite Princess Yucie. That one was far too much of a cutesy ensemble "let's all be friends" piece for my tastes; I really wouldn't like to see that happen with a Tenchi spinoff, especially after the horrors I witnessed in Battle Programmer Shirase.

I'm willing to give it a chance. Then again I'm not one to hate a series just because of character design. Sure I don't care much for Sasami's outfit. However the outfits for the other four girls look decent. Maybe the leader has to wear the worst outfit. Besides that the show has yet to air even in Japan. So it's not like I can see an episode of it. Be it on TV, DVD or whatever. Thus I'm not too worried about the quality yet.

I'll definitely give it a chance. I've liked most of the Tenchi franchise so far. It's just that PS TV was the one I liked as well as the original OAVs - so I'm just hoping that it's more in its spirit.
A excuse to see Sasami in a magical girl outfit with a possibility of panty shots?

Hey, I'd give most shows a chance. But this is Sasami we're talking about. Now if they were to use a different name and not say its a tenchi spin off. Well no harm done. But you dont mess and muck with Sasami and not expect a backlash.
Alt universe or not, if they want to update and tweek the designs some sure... but you dont just junk your model and start from ground zero. Now Mihoshi and Washu looks normal and good, why cant Misao or Sasami?
She may be called Sasami but she isnt, AIC or not.

There isn't. It's just that prejudice and incredibly high expectations based on the success of previous and most likely unrelated shows beats snap judgements based on character designs by a small margin.

Oh, I'll watch it at some point. I just hope it gets dubbed (and that they bring back everybody's English VAs, shouldn't be TOO much of a problem since they got almost everyone back for Ryo-Ohki 3) so I don't have to look at Sasami's new character design the whole time. Then I could just hold up the case for MPS and move it around. Like a finger puppet.
As long as Sasami's dad maintains his Awesome Personality of Infinite Coolness, then I don't mind the new look for him, actually.

IMO the new character designs don't look bad in action... they're just not very Tenchi, which I guess is the main problem.

Oh? Well, when I saw the last one it I could barely tell what was going on so maybe I forgot it's the same scenes (this new computer seems to play the RealPlayer files better...)
I'm wondering when we'll finally have a cast list. Rumi Kasahara seems to still be around (I've found a credit for her in Yomigaeru Sora) and Chisa Yokoyama too, so I hope they'll be back. Of course, want to know the voices on the original characters as well.
Kickass! I was hoping for more Pretty Sammy, but wasn't sure that we'd get anything since I have this impression that the new Tenchi OVA wasn't the huge financial success that AIC was hoping for.
I actually think the new designs look great. (Although I'm not crazy about Sasami's hair.) They certainly look a hell of a lot better than what that guy who designed the new characters of the Tenchi OVA manages to come up with. They look very kiddy, but this will surely be a kid-oriented anime. Anyway, this is AIC, they'll look different in every episode anyway. (Just look at Belldandy's design in AMS TV.)
I'm disappointed that Funky Connie isn't part of the lineup. But maybe they'll come up with a new character to rival her awesomeness. I will certainly be checking this out as soon as I get the chance. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Honestly due to my experience with Pretty Sammy OVA and Magical Project S. The last thing I'd want is for Tenchi, Ayeka, and Ryoko to get major roles. Especially if their only purpose in the story will be to continue the love triangle.....
Honestly a major reason why Magical Project S is better than Pretty Sammy OVA is because of the fact, the love triangle of Tenchi Muyo is not sucking attention away from Sasami in the TV series.
So in other words the last thing, I want is to see the love triangle suck away attention from Sasami, Misao and the new characters again. That's not to say having those three eventually appear in some form is bad. I just don't want it to be the tired Love Triangle thing. Which if I want to see, I can watch Tenchi Muyo.

Yeah, that's not to say they will be bad. Miyuki Sawashiro (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=5735) and Kaori Nazuka (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=439) started out with a major role while in their teens (heh, they're both around the same age as me, too. Cool...), and they're both quite talented with an impressive amount of anime voice work by this point.
In this case, pretty much the whole main cast of 5 is new, so it seems they're trying to do something special and hopefully they can pull it off (though of course they had to screw with voice continuity /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif)

True, but that's just not the same as overhauling the whole cast. For instance, AMG TV had some replacements (notably Mamiko Noto voicing Sayoko rather than Junko Asami as before), but most of the core cast is still intact. The continuity has never once been broken in the main Tenchi franchise, and that's a time stretching 13 years (from the first OVA episode to the special episode that was made last year for the third OVA series) Well, this is somewhat of an unrelated series, but neither was Pretty Sammy (and it had all of the same VA's)

I just finished the first episode myself. Not sure what to think yet since they are still setting up the story. However it has potential. Also the ED theme is rather nice and the OP theme is divine. I rather enjoy it. Kind of catchy. Plus the way they make it so it seems like the characters are singing is kind of cute and err I better leave it at that.
Yeah I admit the new voices will take awhile to get used to, but then again this is a different series. Plus even original voices sometimes take time to get used to. Well "original" being a loose term because sometimes I won't have access to the original voice. Such as for example in Star Ocean the Second Story it would be Precis' English voice I'd be getting used to. Not her original Japanese voice. Come to think of it. The fact the voices are completely different may help in one regard. It kind of makes the idea that this is supposed to be a completely different series even more apparent. After all different character designs and different voices too.
Either way I plan to watch this series based on its own merits. I don't need it to be a clone of MPS or whatever to enjoy it. In fact I'd much rather SMSC be its own series than just a rehash of MPS. Of course those who want a rehash of MPS. Well just rewatch MPS episodes for that. Because after all it's much easier.
Also yes I'll admit I'm kind of attracted to Misao already. She has err a nice figure for her age. It's err quite noticable at certain angles. I think I've said too much already. Still given the way episode 1 went, I have a bad feeling that some angsty will happen concerning her at the half way mark.

Had a look at the first episode and while it was overall ok, the main reason why I couldn't really get into it were the somewhat flat voice performances. As I understand it the voice actresses for this series' main characters are a bit on the young side, but after I've been spoiled by some stellar voice performances from this season (for example both main casts from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu and Ouran Highschool Host Club), the performances from Mahou Shoujo Club seem to miss a certain "oomph" and expressiveness. I think I'll follow for a few more episodes to see where the story wants to go, but for now it's on a "after I watched everything else that interests me" kind of schedule.

I can't say for certain, but it's possible given the nature of Misao's character in the first episode. They may use that to eventually lead into Pixy Misa. However that doesn't mean for certain Pixy Misa will be in the anime. I'm going to assume "No Pixy Misa" that way I'll be surprised if she apepars rather than let down if she does not.
Although then again I'm not sure if Pixy Misa is a good idea. One nice thing about this show is we're getting five girls instead of two. And while it's understand Sasami and Misao will be the main two. I want the other three to have a decent supporting role at least. If they bring in the Pixy Misa angle it may over shadow the three other girls and make them none existant.

This episode was decent considering it was a set up episode. Essentially Washu is err telling them stuff magic related. They eventually meet up with Makoto who for some reason keeps either growing or shrinking. Also Sasami and Misao are growing closer and hopefully even closer. Oh yeah there seems to be some posing practice.
The next episode should deal with Tsukasa who seems to be wind and/or speed based. Obvious from the opening I think. Same with Makoto and her size thing. Sasami is probably light and happy stuff. Misao I think is darkness. So the real question is what Anri falls under. Ah we may know in episode 4 if they don't delay her introduction.
Suwako Moriya
04-22-2006, 06:31 AM
Visiting the Ayeka Fan Club (Yes I'm a member), I learned a few things. First the series is only going to be 13 episodes. During the week of May 4 there will be no episode. So this means the show's formula will probably be like this. 1-4 will introduce the cast, 5-8 will show them interacting with each other. 9-12 will be the true plot while 13 will be the conclusion where Sasami and Misao get married. *Runs*
In any case apparently the voice actresses for the series are pretty young. I'll copy and paste the age list thing here.
Sasami/Mana Ogawa: born 1993/7/2 (this is her first VA role)
Misao/Himeko Shimura: born 1991/2/11
Makoto/Momoko Hatano: born 1993/2/19
Anri/Marin Funayama: born 1994/7/28
Tsukasa/Saharu Kawakami: born ????/??/??
Okay the last one is not known, but the ages range from 12 to 15 years old roughly.
Suwako Moriya

Sasami, Misao and Makoto get their costumes. Which I believe they have to put on manually. No henshin scene. It's also made clear some Sasami is really fast by fast I mean everyone passes by her when she's trying to run. She eventually meets Tsukasa who uses "magic" wind to help both win.
Enter overly protective father. Sasami and crew decide to visit Tsukasa, but eventually get chased by the dogs of the over protective father. Of course as you can expect after a confrontation everything is resolved. It seems the father is talking to Washu about something, but I'm not sure what.
Next time Anri herself will appear and she seems to be well the angry member of the group. Well sadly I'll have to wait an extra week to see this episode due to whatever reason. Ie no episode May 4th and next week is May 4th. Darn it. Ah well, I'll live.
Suwako Moriya
05-11-2006, 03:37 PM
Finally after two weeks, I get to see the introduction of Anri. In short Anri seems to like Tsukasa. Anri is jealous of other girls. Anri plans revenge. Anri gets found out. Chase ensues and things get resolved somewhat.
Ah so not only do we have the usual Sasami x Misao. Now we're getting Anri x Tsukasa. At least in terms of Anri liking Tsukasa. Too bad it's only a five member group. Poor Makoto has no one. *Runs*
For more detailed explanations err it would be nice if I wasn't the only watching the series. Darn it, I've got to stop cursing anime. However the more I see of this the more I'm glad they ignored the whiners and didn't make this an MPS clone.

The basic idea of the episode is <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>the girls end up visiting some place with err magical stuff</span>, I'll have to leave it at that. However near the end of the episode, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>you get to see Sasami meet a mysterious boy. Quick guess. Is he a love interest in need of saving or in fact an evil villain? Maybe both.</span>
Hmm both Anri and Tsukasa have yet put on their outfits. If they did maybe I forgot about it. By that I mean the magical girl outfits. Also it's definitely clear that Anri loves Tsukasa. Yeah the blood loss is a good indication. Hopefully Tsukasa will eventually feel the same way. Not sure what direction the series is going to go in for the remaining episodes. Ah well, I'll just have to wait and see hope they get a chance to shine soon. After all they are all together.

Episode 6: <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>To make a long story short. Sasami dances with mysterious boy, I'm certain it's a boy anyway. Sasami also gets to see what she looks like older during this thanks to magical water. In any case it's made quite clear she has a crush on him. Then of course she goes back to bed. The rest is filled with scenes of the girls interacting during their visit to the "Witches' World" as it seems to be called. Including the girls trying to sing along with a song. As expected they eventually start heading back. Anri is resting on Tsukasa. As if we needed more hints. Err not that I mind them.</span>
Episode 7: Not much to say on this one, I kind of need to rewatch it sorry. Okay so I'm lacking information in general. However the next time indicates a cultural festival. Which includes <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Anri apparently selling images of herself. I need a closer view of those images. For research purposes. Yeah that's it, research.</span>
In any case now that I've watched over half the series, I can say that I'm kind of leaning towards Anri as my favorite of the girls. Not to say I hate the others, but she kind of appeals to me. Except for the nosebleed aspect. I definitely like her outfit. Err let's leave it at that. Plus unlike Sasami or Misao where you can deny an "attraction" to each other. It's not so easy to deny that Anri loves Tsukasa or at least it's harder to anyway. Or maybe I'm seeing things that aren't there.

Yeah this was definitely a cultural episode as various booths were open. <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>In any case the main thing of interest is people being mean to Misao. The girls trying to make Misao feel better and getting Sasami's two friends on better terms with Misao. I could be wrong though. Ah yes Anri was blatantly selling images of herself. Although none of the images were anything that risque. Yeah there was one of her sleeping, but she was in her normal outfit in each. Also Tsukasa is practicing with her magic.</span>
I was reading up on spoilers from a certain blog concerning earlier episodes and etc. In any case it seems <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>the higher ups want Washu to go from getting the girls to control use of their magic to actually using their magic.</span> The next episode involves <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Washu seemingly being fired. However I'm not sure if this is related to something more major. As in a magical conspiracy. Or if it will just related to the school itself and having nothing to do with the magic side of things</span>
In any case with the character introduction done (1-4) and the time spent together done (5-8). Hopefully episode 9 will begin a change of focus and hopefully lead to the girls actually wearing their outfits in the series. I've really only seen Sasami, Misao, and Mako wear them in the show. I'm kind of getting impatient. Ah well.

This was definitely one of the better episodes. You get to see the girls practicing with their brooms trying to fly. Plus this time around, they're all wearing the costumes. One of the best scenes was when the girls were planning an elaborate plan around their abilities. Which kind of left out Sasami. Poor girl.
In any case the main idea is <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Tonobe due to a misunderstanding believes that Washu is taking advantage of the girls. Because they come out holding brooms. The club is going to be disbanded unless Washu can cook something good it seems. Well the girls try to deal with the problem since Washu is not that motivated. Which eventually leads to Sasami pretending to be Washu, but she's found out.
Washu begins to leave which makes all the girls upset. Tonobe even seems to regret the whole thing. Sasami eventually glows. Yes every power must be emotionally connected. Washu goes back to calm her down and since Tonobe saw the whole thing Tsukasa decides to whack him. All so they can lie and say it was a dream.</span>
There's more, but I'll leave it at that. The next episode doesn't look very promising. It's a baby sitting episode. Something not needed for a 13 episode series to waste time with. Although maybe there will be more to it and something will come of it. Either way just four episodes remain. Here's hoping 11-13 can be focused together a single plot thread to make the most of things.

It must be lonely out there man! I stopped following the show myself, only get updates from your posts. It also has to do with how hard the episodes are to find, too much effort to find the episodes, I can spent the time watching or reading stuff. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif I can understand you though, It seems I am the only person in here that is watching the good witch of the west.

I actually have been watching that series off and on. Sometime the problem is the people watching a show may not feel up to discussing it. Sometimes because they don't have the energy. Sometimes they're not very confident in talking in detail. Finally sometimes people give up and realize they may as well be talking to themselves.

10: This was different than I assumed. <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>A girl catches them using magic and believes it can be used to bring back her dead parents. Note the girl also has read a story about witches and zombies. Err yeah. Of course we have Tsukasa thinking about her own mother.</span>
11: This of course starts the conclusion of the series. First this is your required <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>burn out</span> episode or something like that. However the main idea is the girls are supposed to be involved in some <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>tournament</span> Which will start in episode 12 and maybe carry over into episode 13. <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>The most interesting part was Sasami's dad on the train by himself. This is usually a bad sign if you ask me.</span>
In any case it looks like 12 and 13 will be a possible two parter. Just a theory of course. Either way hopefully we'll be seeing them showing of the results of the training. All must have confidence in Washu. Well this is Washu we're talking about. So decide for yourself how much confidence one should have. Either way I'll be continuing to check Matthew's blog which is good for getting information on what happened in each episode. Nice that someone is blogging it.

Yes that's right there will be a second season of the series in the fall. I first learned about at the Ayeka Fanclub. A person mentioned he learned it from 2chan. I didn't say anything before, but it's mainly because I'm not sure if I can trust 2chan.
However Matthew who has been blogging the series at his blog confirms a second season when talking about episode 12. Also I just finished episode 13. It has a next time "preview". However whether the preview is a general preview for season 2 or just episode 14 as it were. I can't say.
As for the series itself. Well the final episode isn't much of a conclusion per say, but then that may be partially because there is going to be a second season. Either way this is definitely good news. Now if only it would get licensed already.
