I noticed TRSI had just added a number of Tokyopop titles...so I wondered if their website had been updated with any of them, since I had been interested in a couple of the ones that were recently discovered. While they don't show up in the menu...some website code changing and googling paid off. So here are the intro pages and first vol info for:

Glass Wings (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=HGK&categorycode=BMG&page= introduction)
Life (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=LIF&categorycode=BMG&page= introduction)
Magical X Miracle (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=MXM&categorycode=BMG&page= introduction)
X-Kai (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=XKI&categorycode=BMG&page= introduction)
Yubisaki Milk Tea (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=YMY&categorycode=BMG&page= introduction)
Karin (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=KRN&categorycode=BMG&page= introduction)
Spring (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=SPR&categorycode=BMG&page= introduction)

On tokyopop.com, if you just go up to Browse>Release Calendar and click on April 2006 on the left you'll see them listed. That's how I added them to ListerX the other day.

Original covers for Life, then? Happy! The logo looks a bit stupid though, I like the plain font used for the japanese version. And it's hard to make out from the small picture but it looks like they've either cleaned up the picture (which is quite crude in a good way) on the cover. Or the author re-drew it. Looking forward to see what the english version will be like!

Everybody should at least try the first 1-2 volumes of Life, esp. if you liked Confidential Confessions. This one is even better imo. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Definitely keeping an eye out for Glass Wings.

I do have to wonder...how many other volumes of manga short stories have been published in English? For that matter, how many one-volume series have been published in English?

Viz has had a few over the years - Four Shoujo Stories, x2, Wild.com are a few that come immediately to mind. Ironcat had at least one horror one before they went under and it looks like Dark Horse is planning several going forward. And Tokyopop has their 'Passion Fruit' series. But its not that common.

Who's the author for Glass Wings? Or is it an anthology?

Sigh I thought the Life title they licensed was the one about that dad who goes after his daugters killer or something like that because he has nothing left to live for because he is going to die from some illness. Any one know what title that is?

It's the suicide one.... er.. cutting one..... Angst Shoujo all the way!! Sort like Confidental Confessions except with an ongoing plot and a lot more angst. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif I love Life! Though I was crying through some of it.. no matter..

Karin (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=KRN&categorycode=BMG&page= introduction)

If you click on to the Volume 1 info page, the title Karin is changed to CHIBI VAMPIRE twice at the top and on the picture of the Vol.1 manga itself (and oddly, the Tokyopop logo/sidebar is placed on the left side like a Korean/OEL title). It's listed as Chibi Vampire on the April 2006 Release Calendar page as well, linking of course to the Vol.1 page. THOUGH, the Introduction page link above, as well as the Creator Profile and Character Info pages all have a new Karin logo at top with no signs of 'Chibi Vampire'.

Urrmm... could a TP rep sort out what the dealio is? (as there seems to be TWO logos created for this title, though I would think that most everyone would majorly grumble if you dared rename it to Chibi Vampire, which I hope you are not)

Karin: Chibi Vampire maybe?? Well I'm just glad it's coming out, whatever silly title it has.

It was announced on ANN that the title was changed to Chibi Vampire. My guess is because TP already has a title called "Kamichama Karin".

AkashicLibrarian

How stupid do the Tokyopop editors think the manga public is?

- Kamichama Karin (cutesy neon logo, Koge-Donbo's oh-so-identifiable artstyle)
- Karin (with completely different logo, gothy with little bats, and completely different character art)

Now I'm going to mix up Chibi Vampire with Vampire Game when pulling a book off my manga shelves!

Why don't they change once again Shiozaki's other title BATTLE Club, because it's too similarly titled to his BATTLE Vixens series (which wasn't Battle Vixens in the first place...)

Dragon Head
Dragon Hunter
Dragon Knights
Dragon Voice

zOMG!! I can't tell any of these titles apart because they all have 'DRAGON' in their name! Are they all related series, as in sequels or sumtin'?(ok... /sarcasm off)

When at the bookstore, am I going to confuse Chrono Code with ADV's Chrono Cross next to it? err.. NO. I have brain. Me pick correct one.

AND the clincher: Karin is not CHIBI! She's a regular-sized 16year old high school student with large enough breasts.
And that 'Chibi' logo is BUTT ugly as well.

Once again: Tokyopop - How STUPID do you thing your manga buyership is that they can't differenciate between the two?
In the future when loads more titles have been licensed, are we then going to be altering the title of The Seiji's 'With Karin' once again, or shall we just hope someone else will license it as they won't have another title with Karin on their roster?

You (TP) were doing soooo good for the last while with no ridiculous name changes and a slew of great titles licensed recently, so it's sad to find this l'il (chibi) situation.

Addendum: and now that Karin is an anime, when it's licensed and released NA-wise with the name unchanged, won't having it called Chibi Vampire be a point against you in regards to marketing the title to purchasers of the DVDs? hmmm

Maybe they weren't given a choice about keeping the name as just Karin.

That does it, I won't buy Karin from TP and I'll tell other people not to buy it either. The only way they'll learn is if their wallets are hurting. Goddamn bastards...go ruin some crappy manwha instead -_-

Oh, I guess they cut out the teen prostitution arc as well...even if they left Battle Royal unedited. Seems they want to make this really cute so that it'll hopefully sell better. Just die already TP, ok?

Why? Because it goes against what they're trying to sell it as... and I don't think they have any problems cutting away pieces or changing dialogue to milden it. Money's the only thing for them it seems. Never had much love for them anyway but now they're even lower than Dark Horse in my opinion. Respect for the manga itself isn't part of their policy nowadays...

Errr...I'm going to reserve judgement on this, since the only thing we know was changed thus far was the title. Nothing else, and there's really no reason to believe that they're going to change anything else at this point.

Notes like these will make it less likely our TP representative(s) will respond to the question.

1. We don't know why the title was changed. It could for be any number of reasons. Titles get changed all the time.
2. Even if it were to do with "Kamichama Karin" as someone else pointed out, it doesn't mean TP did it because they think we're stupid.
3. TP has stated, many times over now, that they don't intend to edit any more titles (let's skip the discussion again over the ones that have, please) so it's unlikely they will change anything.
4. ...and simply, jumping to conclusions and ranting off about what's going to be changed months before the book is even out is just plain... silly. And it will start a frenzy that is unecessary.

It sucks when changes happen to a book you like, but it's happened before and despite how ridiculous a new title may be (some of them have been doozies..), it doesn't change what's inside. Why not try relaxing a bit and trying to enjoy the hobby?

Changing titles sucks, but nothing will ever top "Eerie Queerie" in suckiness, so I really can't feel a lot of sympathy for Karin fans.

Sorry guys, I just don't see any reason whatsoever to change the title.I've cooled downed a little now so ^_^
Anyway, I've actually sent off an email to TP (A nice one, not that harsh...) and I hope they answer.

And I still don't like their way of americanizing most of their titles, and that's the one thing I'm most afraid of. Just blatanly changing stuff to suit the american audience really makes me irk, since it just doesn't fit in (For me that is). They've done this for a long time and it's the really big thing that irritates me about them, except some translation mistakes and other editing stuff ;D

I agree. I don't really think the title "Chibi Vampire" is that doinky. A little stupid maybe, but it's not as bad as, say, the original title of Immortal Rain (which was Meteor Methuselah...METEOR METHUSELAH, people. No wonder they changed that title). At least it has something to do with the series although I don't really like the title very much. I would probably prefer "Karin: The Chibi Vampire" though, with "The Chibi Vampire" as small text below the Karin logo. That way everyone is happy...

Hmm dont know about the possible confusion with Kamichama Karin. I mean most of those ppl/manga readers who know what "chibi" means probably also know that Kamichama Karin is a complete different manga.

Unfortunetly, title changes are part of the American landscape thanks to IP laws and media distribution. While 'Chibi Vampire' does sound a bit lame, it's no worse than 'Ghost Talker's Daydream,' 'Ninja Nonsense,' or the hundred of other properties that have faced title changes in the US. I'm still going to buy it and hopefully enjoy it (at least more than the shitty TV show).
