CDJapan is really fast. I got the same email just 30mins after reading about the delay on Japanese message boards with more detailed info.
Apparently Geneon has sent out apology mails to Japanese who ordered the OVA with an explaination on the delay. Basically the running time for Vol1 has escalated from 35 minutes to a whooping 50 minutes so far and even then they're pretty much against the wall when it comes to making the schedule. In order for the OVA to maintain the high quality standards that they set up to archive in the first place and not to disappoint the higher expectations of the fanbase after all the hype, they decided to delay it a month instead.
If the above is all true, I'll be more than pleased with the delay. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Wouldn´t be the first time the OVA got delayed (after all the first announced release date was back in September /images/graemlins/depresse.gif). While the Official site doesn´t state anything about this delay, fansites (http://www.alato.jp/natsumi/hellsing/release.htm) got that information as well.
I just hope that the January release will be the final delay the OVA will have. In the mainwhile *pops in the Promo DVD and watches the trailer again*
so far

Ahhhh. Then if that's the case, I can wait a bit longer.

I saw the email from CDJapan earlier. I might have to shuffle some items around between orders because of this delay.

I don't have a problem with the delay, as long as it doesn't have the same sort of release problems as happened years ago with Giant Robo. ^_^

Oh well, life goes on. It eventually will arrive on my doorstep one day and the good times will last another 15 minutes.
On the positive side, it drops my current R2 pre-orders for December down to five which leaves more ca$h for holiday shopping.

I don't mind waiting for another month if it means better quality in the end. January was already loaded with R2 new releases and this probably will be pushing it past $700. Looks like I'll have to cancel a few things. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

Wow, 50 mins? That's probably the entire first manga volume then. ANyway, let's just hope this doesn't turn into Macross Zero (piss poor series with a piss poor extended delays).

Hmmm... it may turn out to be crappy, shitty, or noxiously wretched but I doubt it will be piss poor.

Macross Zero was directed by the insane mecha designer of Macross. The Hellsing OVA will be supervised by the creator himself, I wouldn't worry.

The delays are almost inevitable - it's an OVA, they just get done when they're done generally. Macross Zero is hardly an exception to the rule; Tales of Phantasia and Yukikaze have also slipped repeatedly, and Yukikaze far more drastically.
Plus I thought Macross Zero was fantastic, and have generally enjoyed every series I've seen that Satelight have made, so I have high hopes Hellsing will turn out alright.

This might be a stupid question, but is there any chance of them animating the Cross Fire bonus manga?
Perhaps a much lower budget short tacked on the end in a similar vein as to how it was published.

Oh god, I'd love that! I can't remember the names but the main characters in that are cool! /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Ok, there was this big Hellsing OVA event on Sunday and so far here's the info I've gotten from Japanese fans that were there:
- The first volume of the OVA is indeed going to be 50 minutes (in fact this has been updated on the official site) because they didn't want to cut ANYTHING like they originally planned. The cuts and the further rush to meet the Dec deadline would have made it rather disappointing to fans apparently.
- The second volume Limited Edition will come with the Original Soundtrack CD. The runtime for the second volume is now planned for 40mins.
- The team is really eager to get the first 3 or so volumes out of the door so they can fast-track the story into the nazi storyline which is what all fans REALLY want to see. Good to know the team knows their fanbase well. /images/graemlins/happy.gif
- As of now, the first 6 volumes have been fully scripted and they're pushing production forward very happily.

Man, this is awesome. The studio is really giving the fans what they want and isn't rushing a shoddy product out the door. I can't friggin wait for this.
