Ok, this is not hard.

Both the HiME and Otome manga were maid simultaneously with the anime. Neither were based off the other.

They simply each start with the same basic concept and characters, and the creative team for each medium tells their own story with them.

THE ARE IN NO WAY RELATED PAST THAT.

My main issue wiht both the HiME and Otome manga are that they completely destroy the whole "girl power" aspect of the anime versions, and just term them into stupid fanservice harem crap, and try to make you not realize the overall blandness with gratuitous boobage.

If all you want is to see the girls naked, they are fine, but I just can't stand them myself.

The REALLY sad thing is, if HiME does even moderately well for Bandai (and it will certainly do very well), someone out there is going to license the manga for both shows.

And when that happens, it guarantees that this will be a regular topic in the future.

I thought it was quite funny myself, given that the manga had started running before we were given much information on how the anime was going to pan out (really, we weren't actually told much until the first episode actually aired). I found all the people over-analysing the anime artwork released trying to figure out if anime Mashiro was going to be male or not absolutely hysterical.

Also, I found "Duran Duran" far, far more painful, not to mention all those really dire acronyms (and I mean worse than HiME) the HiME manga came up with.
