<font color="blue">Welcome to the December edition of the Coupons and Deals thread.

When posting up a coupon, deal, or a misprice. Please change the subject line (title) in your post.</font>

<font color="green">What his Excellency Bulldog says:</font>

Please post all coupons, sales and deals (including misprices) in the thread.

But remember:

<font color="red">Do not post ANY Amazon.ca coupons here any longer. </font>- Chris Beveridge

<font color="red">Please Do Not Post Rightstuf.com Got Anime Newsletter Coupons in this thread! </font>- wolve

Thread guidelines:

Please post your reply to the appropriate subthread:

Coupons and Sales - updated 12/28 (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=4&amp;Number=1212343&amp;page=0&amp;view= collapsed&amp;sb=5&amp;o=&amp;vc=1)

Deal and Misprices - updated 12/23 (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=4&amp;Number=1212346&amp;page=0&amp;view= collapsed&amp;sb=5&amp;o=&amp;vc=1)

The subject line of the post should be changed to indicate what retailer the offer is for, as well as the type of offer.
(Coupon / Sale / Deal)

Example: Coupon - Buy.com $5 off $25 of books

Note: "Deal" is to be used for specific items that are worthy of note from a particular retailer due to having the lowest current price as well as items with incorrect (i.e. extremely lower than normal) pricing. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Also, in order to separate Canadian deals from those of US retailers, please add [Cdn] to the beginning of the subject line.

Examples:

[Cdn]Deal -
[Cdn]Coupon -
[Cnd]Sale -

(Thanks to MrDisco for the above suggestion /images/graemlins/happy.gif )

I think that's just their regular price for it. I bought one for my sister for Christmas at that price. FYI, MSRP is $149.98, so that's about normal discount for BB.

I saw the Wolf's Rain LE boxset at Best Buy and it didn't look like a chipboard box to me. In fact, it looked like those flimsy folded boxes used by the early ADV boxes.

Anyone bought the new LE set? Can you share how the construction is like and how DVDs are kept inside?

It's definitely not chipboard. It's the same sort of flimsy cardboard that some ADV boxes and some past Bandai sets (.hack, WHR, Scryed) are made of. I'm not sure how the dvds are packaged inside. I can't open it since it's a gift. I do think that 7 dvd cases + a cd will fit inside. Whether that's the case or not remains to be seen. Shaking doesn't really reveal any answers. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

This appeared previously (right before the CPM repricings), and they DID honor it at that point. (They even had ample opportunity to correct it, as the price break showed up as a preorder.)

Got mine today at the 19.99 price so ja, they must not care. Also saw a display at the end of the aisle labeled $6.99 dvds. Saw a bunch of older releases like Argentosoma and SD gundam, but I also saw a good amount of .hack//sign vol 3-5 LEs with the CDs, all labeled $6.99. Dunno if it has been posted before but it doesn't seem like it. Well, time to build up courage to watch Saikano. I still haven't watched Now and Then, Here and There and I got it like two months ago =x.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm saying it because the other shops who repriced the standard edition didn't reprice the special edition. Furthermore for volume 2 amazon.ca didn't reprice the special edition although they did reprice the standard edition. Of course amazon.ca could simply do a reprice for the volume 1 special edition on their own, but looking at the price it seems much more likely that they applied the standard edition's repricing to the special edition too by mistake.

[/ QUOTE ]

The Buy 4, Get 1 free (on all books) info came from my weekly e-mail from them. It should be available at all Waldenbook stores. If you're not sure, then ask one of the employees. Personally, I think they forgot to put up the sings at your store, because of the holiday rush.

As for the punch cards, they should be right on the counter. There wasn't any signs at my store for this one. When I bought a graphic novel, they gave me the card and told me all about the promotion. I suggest just to ask for one.

It's actually hard to say. My local FYE has been reducing the first season as well. I'm just going to list this as a deal for now.

The regular SAC DVDs, or the SE's? Because two FYEs near me have been offering random volumes (standard edition) for about $6 each.

For both, a couple of the SEs were for $20 - $25 (vol. 2 and 3 were two of them) at my FYE.

It's actually hard to say.

[/ QUOTE ]
At my local FYE, a couple of SEs were repriced to $20 - $25. That's why I questioning this. I'm having a feeling that this is just a holiday deal though (both FYE's and Amazon.ca).

There's a FUNimation Sale (https://www.thecnl.com/specials.html?subject=Funimation&amp;instock=1) at TheCNL.com.

Discounts aren't as deep as your typical TRSI sale but pretty good for a domestic promotion.

Here's a Borders Express/Waldenbooks coupon for $10 off $50 OR $20 off $80 (http://f.chtah.com/i/16/276579827/1213coupon.htm) that I got in my inbox. (Exp 12/19)

Anyone know if this can be used with the Buy 4 get 5th free deal that ends 12/14? Between the coupon, the free book deal and the manga punchcard, this could turn out to be a pretty good deal!

It specifically says that it's not valid with other offers, so I doubt
that you'll get it with the B4G5 offer, but the punchcard will probably
work. Though, as always, YMMV.

Doubly lucky! I passed by there again today and they still had the B4G1 sale! So I went ahead and got 10 more manga(nine $9.99 and one $10.95) used the $20 off coupon, and they went ahead and gave me the $10 off from the punchcard(even though technically the 2 free books shouldn't have been counted as stated on the back of the card /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif ) So it was roughly $5.05(+tax) for each manga! So I was at Big Lots on the weekend (getting "gag" Christams gifts) and found a few Geneon disks for $3.99 - WH Robin v?(starts w/ep 11?), Galaxy Angels v3, Geneshaft v2

I know this was news a few months ago (can't find the thread), but just figured it worth a mention. My Big Lots is notoriously crappy, so I figure they just got around to opening whatever crate the discs came in.

Yeah they are definitely reliable, not some fly-by-night operation with 3 employees. Though their return policies are, well, unfriendly. They're a huge distributor who caters to other retail shops.

Whoever runs their shipping department is REALLY efficient. Their stuff processes and ships much more efficiently than amazon.

they're ok..but read their policies before buying. also i think they charge upfront..iridium can verify that.

Actually, I think they charge as it ships, or at least there's an option you can click for that. I ordered Infinite Ryvius and Silent Mobius collections from them, Ryvius shipped out first and they only charged for that shipment. Few months later Mobius shipped out and the charge for that was on the statement for that month.

He's probably refering to their return policies which are designed more with retail stores in mind than individuals. And that shipping is charged per shipment, not per order. And that orders are not held until everything on an order is in stock (it's shipped as it becomes available).

I've bought a lot of stuff from them over the years. I order what's in stock (their stock levels are updated several times daily) and try to group 4 or more items into a shipment for best shipping cost. Shipping is usually well packed and quick. I've ordered stuff just before 7pm Ontario time and had it arrive the next day via UPS (the 3 hour time difference is useful sometimes). I've never had to return anything, so I've avoided that potential pitfall. No provincial sales tax charged on shipments to SK, MB or ON -- just GST.

Buy 2 manga, get 1 free
Buy 1 apparel, get 1 half-off

The Buy 2, Get 1 Free coupon DOES include -anime- boxesets.

Also for those who did not get the coupon, there is a big 2 day anime sale going on Monday and Tuesday. While the deals are not as good as the coupons (Buy 3 manga, get 1 free for example) they are better than standard fare.

The coupon booklets were to be distributed after Thanksgiving to try to get people to come back after X-Mas and were a one time deal, so once your store was out of them...well...they were out. =( Of course from what I can see, alot of managers just threw them out or just didn't hand them out.

There were a good number of sales that were set for 2 days - namely a buy more, save more sale. With regular DVDs it made it like it like $10 a disc on $15 or less titles when you bought 4. With anime they had it setup on a % off basis with it being 15, 20, 25 depending on how many titles you picked up. (of course, sale titles are not valid for the offer)

Once I head to work, I'll try to post the markdown codes but the only reason I can reasonably think for this sale to not go on is for the store that you visited might have been a test store. (otherwise, yes - from everything that was documented, it is a national sale)

12-26-2005, 01:02 PM
My local mall store had a stack of the coupon booklets back in the manga/anime area, just sitting on a display that had some figures and pocky and things like that. But there were no signs anywhere about any kind of sale on anime or manga.
I did not ask anybody about it because they were too busy.

As corporate is soooooo cool, they didn't produce any signage for this sale. yay! (heck, I'm printing some custom ones tonight....blarg) The markdowns ARE in the weekly markdown sheet that the employees use to give out discounts and the anime sales are as follow:

Buy 2 Anime DVDs, Save 20% (each)
Buy 3 Anime DVDs, Save 25% (each)
Buy 4 or more Anime DVDs, Save 30% (each)

Buy 3 Graphic Novels, Get the 4th FREE

All are regular sales that expire at the end of the day tomorrow.

Well it's seven disc set. 1-6 is 89.82 at Amazon. Let's say you find 7 for $20. That's 109.82.

The original Cowboy Bebop set with 6 discs plus a CD retailed for $199 so if you get it at a 40% discount it would still be $120. What do you think a box of Champloo is going to retail for?

R.O.D. TV series, which is also 7 discs is also a retail of $199 and the cheapest I can find it is $132 (with shipping).

I think you might lose by waiting. Only $20, but still...why wait when you get it cheaper now?

Compare that to Last Exile which is

1) A Geneon Release
2) 8 Discs, not 7

And is currently available for at least as low as ~$107.

Given the inevitable deals, I would expect to acquire a box of champloo for under $70 within a year of release. Anime, like TV on DVD, has become seriously market-saturated since the release of Bebop. And so, as we have seen with many other anime releases over the last year, subject to serious downward pricing pressure.

Last Exile is seven discs. And, as noted, a special case since it had so many partial-series collection releases.

R.O.D. is also a Genon/Pioneer release and it's not under $132 as I've said. Is Last Exile not the exception or is R.O.D. older than what you're basing this on? Hard to judge...but I'm not so sure with Champloo.

Plus Last Exile is only at that price at one place that charges shipping bringing it to $108 for me. I'd save $1 if you're right.

No, if I'm right you'd save at least $39.

The dvdpacific price is their regular everyday price, like I said, the deals are inevitable -- all it takes is patience and with so many other series already available for so little, it isn't like there is nothing else to watch in the meantime.

So what you're saying is that the Pioneer / Genon discs are slashing prices, which are usually at $130-$140 for seven disc sets at current bargains ($199-$210 retail) as far as I can see. And that these sets (Heat Guy J $ 135.14 Best Deal &amp; R.O.D. TV $ 131.08 Best Deal) will drop not only as low as the current exception of Last Exile $107.42 Best Deal, but to around $70???

What makes you think that? I can see a $20-$30 drop...bringing them to around $100-$110 during good deals. But a $60-$70 drop? I don't disagree that prices will drop, but it does strike me as a big leap without some examples of this happening.

Ambers79
12-30-2005, 02:13 PM
With Geneon being the most expensive when it comes to box sets I doubt a Samurai Champloo boxset will be any cheaper than the deal at amazon right now. Even if you get the boxset on a sale. Last Exile was not a typical release for Geneon and I doubt they will do it again. Looking at their new boxsets ROD, Gungrave,Heat Guy J, and Sugar all of then are over $150 most closer to $200 even with rightstuff's studio sale wouldn't bring then down to amazon's sale price right now. I wish I had the extra money to pick it up, but I don't.

I thought I was pretty clear as to what makes me think that. The market is saturated.

We are seeing serious price drops across the board. It's not a smooth even decline, but it is happening - look at that 10 disc "sampler" at best buy right now - $40. Heat Guy J has also seen serious pricing variations. Then look at the competition - ADV's thinpaks are seriously cheaper than the original releases - Noir, FMP and Rahxephon all below $50 when on sale, GITS SAC hasn't even gone to a box yet, and single volumes are starting to sell for under $10 on sale. Pioneer can't hold out against competition like that forever, especially with B&amp;M shelf-space now at a premium.
