I hope they can keep the little fan service that manga has intact /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Let's hope it turns out better than the last thing Oh! Great had animated.

Woo!~ Ever since I started reading this one I figured it would be a good property to animate. Hopefully it's better than TenTen.

while i'm a big oh!great fan, i never really enjoyed Air Gear aside from the lovely art. Plus, w/ my disappointment of the TenTen anime (whose manga is superior than AG IMO), i can't say i'm looking forward to this. That may change until i see the designs and who will be animating this. and for fanservice in this, i could care less.

I enjoy the Air Gear manga and I like the characters and the "extreme sport fighting" style so if they keep everything intact then I will be happy and be looking forward to it.

While reading Air Gear I wanted to see it animated, because if they dont use a large amount of still frames for the high speed action it will be beautiful to watch.

Yeah I dont expect much either. The Ten Ten anime with mostly/only South Korean studios doing the work was/is a big disappointment.

How, exactly? The first half of the show, in general, looks as good if not better than most other average-budget TV series that were produced around the same time. Maybe it gets worse as it goes, but anyone who cares to pay attention knows that that's the trend for the vast majority of series out there, though most of the time the drop in animation quality is sufficiently minimized so that most folks won't notice. We all know that a lot of the animation grunt work gets farmed out to South Korea these days; the only difference with Tenjho Tenge is that a higher percentage than normal was done there. Oddly enough, episode 9, I believe, which was animated entirely in Japan by Japanese studios, actually manages to look significantly worse, technically, than the South Korea-animated episodes. So, maybe it's just me, but I've never quite understood where the criticism about Tenjho Tenge's animation comes from, either in terms of its drop in quality or a perceived overall deficiency, aside from people just being ready to hate the show because it does a disservice to its manga origins.

The animation quality on Tenjo Tenge was never the issue; it was the directing. The show was boring as hell. Somehow sucked the life right out of everything.

And it (the characters) look bad. Not only did they give some characters weird hair colors, the charadesign is just awful.

I was wondering if that might happen. Thanks for posting the info here /images/graemlins/happy.gif This'll mean more Air Gear goods to collect...

Hopefully the show will be directed properly unlike Oh Great's Tengo Tenge. It will be interesting to see what animation studio gets to animate this.

I'd say it very much was an issue, since the animation quality completely tanked after the first handful of episodes.

The first few episodes contained well animated, fluid fights. Nearly every fight beyond that point barely qualifies as 'animated'.

I always did think Air Gear was more anime-friendly than Tenjho Tenge, so this isn't really a surprise to me (actually, I'm more surprised it's taken this long). Hoepfully they'll animate it properly, though, because the action could look great if done properly or awful if just given the 'lined background' treatment.

You mean the male oriented bishoujo fanservice or the female oriented bishonen fanservice? Or both? /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I wonder if this'll increase the chances of the manga being licensed (hopefully not by CMX).

Like a lot of shonen manga, the story has that "challenge/fight of the week" structure, which means the anime could run for a while if the producers wanted it to.

I think it was both the animation and the direction. The animation was average - for a fighting manga, I'd hope for better animation of fights. I agree with Sakura Shinguji that this wasn't because a South Korean animator was involved.

The direction was unimaginative, and just tried to follow the manga (but with an injection of bright colours) - I wonder whether the director saw this as some sort of acknowledgement of Oh! great's composition of his panels. With Rurouni Kenshin, the anime followed the manga closely (at least with the Kyoto Arc), but the direction added something new in terms of bringing out the tension and melodrama, and the BGM was great. In the case of the TenTen anime, the direction added nothing, which meant that without the quality of Oh! great's art and good animation, the end result failed in comparison to the manga.

I still find the anime easy to watch, but that's me /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I so second that. Hell I'd just be happy with a good balance of both to be kept for the anime.

harlock mentioned in the other thread but i think the post would be better here. anyways the official site (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/airgear/) is up but still under construction. once again, oh great!'s designs don't make the transition too well imo (whether it was intentional or not).

Found another site for the Air Gear anime, which has a bigger version of the group picture from the Toei page. The way Ikki's hair looks it makes me wonder if it'll even move when being animated, and I noticed that they put spandex shorts on Ringo, which probably doesn't bode too well for the amount of fanservice in the show. /images/graemlins/sad.gif I hope they keep some of it since the fan service for both the male and female readers is what makes the manga such a fun read in the first place.

Check it out here. (http://www.mmv.co.jp/products/flyer/airgear/)

I agree about Ikki's hair. It doesn't look at all like the manga. But Akito's designs look very slick, which makes me a happy fangirl. /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif

I gotta pay more attention to subject lines. At first I could have swore I read "Oh Great! Air's going to be animated" /images/graemlins/tongue.gif I was thinking "wait, isn't Air all ready a long running anime? And I thought it was well-liked..."

Toei's Air Gear page (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/airgear/) has been updated with the premiere date and time. According to it Air Gear begins on April 4th, but they list the time as 2500, which should be 0100 the next day so I'm not too sure about that.
