The old thread is gone (or at least search didn´t turn up anything). Anyways, Madhouse announced a while ago that they are going to adapt Rei Hiroe´s (http://www.din.or.jp/~redbear/) Black Lagoon (serialized in Sunday GX (http://websunday.net/gx/) mangabon). A site has been set up for the TV anime as can be seen here (http://www.blacklagoon.jp/) stating a few more details regarding the staff involved in the TV anime:
Black Lagoon TV Animation
Original Work by Rei Hiroe
Director & Scenario & Series Composition: Sunao Katabuchi
Character Designs: Shino Masanori (Gungrave)
Animation Production: Madhouse
Next to HELLS ANGELS THE Madhouse project for 2006 I´m looking forward to.

I read the first volume of the manga and thought it was a lame, boring Itoh Akihiro wannabe. I'm shocked it's sold this well.
What's the appeal?

Judging by the website.... SEX Appeal!

And having the director of Princess Arete as the director and scenarist of this adaptation feels weird to me, to say the least.

There is some sex appeal/fanservice, but everyone keeps their clothes on. Nothing amazing plotwise (and IMO goes over the top with the maid-cosplaying ex-FARC guerilla and the goth loli Romanian child assassins), but I think it's harmless fun for some "gun action" (with a bit of humour) and the art by Hiroe is good. Nice to have a series with adult characters too - I get tired of so many anime and manga focusing on high school students.
I've never read any Itoh Akihiro stuff myself.

Itoh Akihiro is pretty much the king of scantily clad girls with guns manga. In my book anyway; he does it without ever making you feel skeevy for reading a book like that. Hong Kong inspired action, and very funny.

That's also what sparks my interest in it. I am sick and tired of watching children as lead characters. Give me some adults I can identify with.
I'll jump on the bandwagon also. While I won't stop watching a show due to the main characters, It's nice once in a while to get a "older" main character. In this case it happens to be a female character, which is a bonus. That is one of the reasons why I liked GITS SAC as a series. Gone are the whiny Shinji's or the high school days in Full Metal Panic, and were get real world situations.
Hopefully it proves to be a good adaptation.

Amen to that. Looking back, most of the series I consider to be my favorites have adults as the main characters. As well, most of my favorite characters are also adults. Go figure. Guess I'm just getting old.

While I haven´t started buying the Tankôbon for the series, I followed it for a few chapters in Sunday GX. Judging by that I do agree with Natsume Maya. The plot doesn´t seem too deep, but there´s an appeal in it being over the top (coming from a manga-ka that released Doujinshi with such hilarious titles like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with Leaf") and just some good gun action combined with good art by Hiroe. I guess that´s the appeal of the series and sorry to say so, but I´m sold on it ^_~
If Madhouse gives it a good treatment it could turn out pretty decent IMO.

Yeh. I'm only 19(guess thats still young), but often times it's a nice break in the status quo to have a "grown up" character. Judging by the manga plotline, and the picture of her on the site, it seems like it should be a fun series. I have nothing against teenagers as the main character in anime.
If the show is good, I'll watch it without thinking twice about the characters. Well, maybe except for one little annoying school girl in Air Master /images/graemlins/knowital.gif

Yeah I hated her too. But what I hate more is the fact that the series is incomplete, and probably will be (in a R1 sense). I was really enjoying that series, too.

He wrote Geobreeders, right? I think I saw an episode of the anime years ago... Geobreeders at least (I don't know Itoh's other works) has a more fantastical setting than Black Lagoon, with more cartoony character designs, catgirls (IIRC) etc.

In Black Lagoon, there are probably two main characters: Levy the Two Hands (the woman featured on the website) and Rock (Japanese former salaryman, basically abandoned by his company and joins the crew of the Black Lagoon).
The Major's clothing in GitS really annoys me, though. The series is a serious sci-fi anime, and then the main character walks around in a swimsuit/lingerie...?!

I doubt Black Lagoon is a particuarly realistic story about the underworld (Russian mafia, triads, cartels, yakuza etc), though /images/graemlins/happy.gif
[ QUOTE ]
Hopefully it proves to be a good adaptation.
[/ QUOTE ]
Where a manga has good artwork, I generally expect that the anime artwork will look worse due to the cost/difficulty of trying to maintain the same quality artwork in animation. Tenjou Tenge is an example of that.
Since this is an action story, I hope the action scenes will be well animated. See TenTen again /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I wonder if they'll sprinkle a few lines in English, Russian, Spanish, Chinese in the dialogue as in the manga.

Hiroe seems pretty playful with his works, eg the omake manga at the end of some of the volumes. One is about Rock waking up one day to find that all the characters have swapped gender. And I thought the alternate tankoubon cover he did was funny: see my website (http://natsumemaya.terminus.net.au/news.htm), 29 October 2005 entry.
Oh yeh, I'm not expecting a true to life show here(but eh it's anime). The point some are trying to get at, and myself included is that it's fun once in a while to take a break and have a adult lead, like in the mentioned GITS SAC.

The Geobreeders anime was okay, but the second one was a disaster, and neither really hit the intensity of the manga.
He also does Wilderness in Sunday GX, which is a much more realistic outlaws in Mexico B movie deal; certainly owes a lot to Rodriguez.
His best book is still Belle Star, which is the biggest, baddest action Western ever done, with John Woo style face offs on board trains that are vaulting their rails.
His art is a little more cartoony then Black Lagoon.
I can't really say much about Black Lagoon since I bought the first volume when it came out, and that was several years ago. I picked it up because of the Itoh Akihiro quote on the obi, and all I really remember was it being kinda dull. Was surprised to see it selling gangbusters a few volumes later.
I've read the first two volumes of Black Lagoon, and my favourite storyline still has to be the Neo Nazi storylines.
Moral of the story: Guns are for shooting, not bragging about it's capabilities. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

i've been waiting for more news on this after it was announced in the spring or sometime then. Because of that, i went to seek out the mangas in the summer, which contained pretty decent art and fanservice (yum some nips, not much though). Action was pretty good too. I've only read up to vol.4 and i must admit, that it's decent stuff imo, nothing great or amazing. I guess it's a more competent girl w/ gun kinda show. Anyways, i'm looking forward to it as i've always have since it's announcement and i hope madhouse will do a good job.
Over at ANN, someone said it's like DIE HARD (the US movie) in terms of FEEL or something...
And I love DIE HARD... so yeah, can I get into this?

Posts at 2ch state first details on the cast for the upcoming Black Lagoon (http://www.blacklagoon.jp/) TV anime adaption by Madhouse. The information probably originates from the latest issue of Monthly Sunday GX (http://websunday.net/gx/) in which the manga by Rei Hiroe gets serialized in.
Black Lagoon TV Animation
Levi (CV: Megumi Toyoguchi)
Rock (CV: Daisuke Namikawa)
Balalaika (CV: Mami Koyama) /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
Dutch (CV: Tsutomu Isobe)
Benny (CV: Hiroaki Hirata)
Can´t wait for this series...especially Mami Koyama as Balalaika (such a great choice if it´s true).

The first scenes reminded me of that recent movie, DOMINO (http://www.dominomovie.com/), and even the OP is edited much like the movie trailer. Seeing the Geneon USA logo at the end, me thinks this might be a pretty strong hit for the R1 market given its very American Action Movie style.

yeah, it said Geneon Entertainment (USA) at the end credits. anyways, i'm very happy w/ madhouse handling this property. Animation was superb and it's great seeing the manga come to life. This is how stylistic gunplay should be animated! Still getting used to Toyoguchi as Levi for some reason as I always had a different voice in mind when reading the manga. Anyways, she's still great and so is rest of the cast. I just hope the animation and art will be consistent ALL the way through.
Sounds promising Rogue. I'm really likeing Geneon's upcoming line up. With Fate, Ergo, Shana, and now Black Lagoon, they have four potential hits on their hands.

Yeh, Geneon is going to be getting my money for Fate, Ergo, Black Lagoon and the upcoming Kamichu. The Black Lagoon manga is interesting in itself, and the gunplay is animated nicely.
Is it me, or has Madhouse really cleaned up this season? It seems like every show they've done has slick animation, and is pretty good music and story wise.

My opinion on Madhouse may be a bit biased, but honestly how many really bad animated projects did they have recently? I mean aside from the fan favorite Tenjô Tenge that obviously didn't turn out as most fans had expected? They kept up high budget with MONSTER for 74 episodes, despite my dislike of the character designs I thought that the little of Tôhai Densetsu Akagi looked pretty high budget (for a TV series) as well, Paradise Kiss had very decent visuals as well (despite them having obviously saved some budget in the early episodes with some "camera capturing various background items while characters talk" scenes).
Back on topic having watched the first episode of Black Lagoon I'm sold on it. Nice and fluid animation in the scenes requiring it, faithful character designs to Rei Hiroe's original ones. Wonderful Seiyuu performance, especially by Megumi Toyoguchi as Levy (and of course Mami Koyama as Balalaika...damn that voice just fits the character so perfectly /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif) and the music, or better said the OP "Red fraction" as well as beautiful ending "Don't look back" (I think that's how the ED has been credited ^_^") made this a very promising adaption of the manga. Judging by the preview for episode 2 the animation quality is scheduled to keep up the level of episode 1.
With this and NANA my wallet will be busy once the jp DVD release will start. A damn good season (and year in general) for Madhouse fans ^_^

So then it's probably worth noting that Animate "already" has the release details for "Red fraction" up. It's going to be a long wait 'till the CDS will be released in June (!). But at least it's scheduled to come with a DVD attached according to Animate:

Catalog Number: GNCA-32 | Release Date: 2006/06/14
Price (incl. tax): 1,575 Yen
Comes with DVD containing PV (Promotion Video(s))
Damn after the first episode of Black Lagoon I find myself listening to the short sample the Official site has up for "Red fraction" on a daily basis. Not that it's the best song ever done...but there's something about the rythm/beat that is addictive as hell IMO. Can't wait to order the single ^_^

As far as I'm aware, MariMite doesn't have Geneon USA in the credits at all, just Geneon (as in Japan Geneon). Could someone with the R2s or with a better memory than mine confirm it? (I didn't like the series much, so it's been a long time since I've seen any of it).

Incorrect.
There is only Geneon in the OPENING credits.
But Geneo USA is in the ENDING credits.
So it seem like episode 2 has aired. Looks action packed, but I'm never good at summaries(especially by just looking at the pictures).

just wanna note that you should call her by Revy now instead of typing both names. Hiroe had her name spelt Levi in the earlier volumes of the manga and changed her the spelling of the name to Revy. Both are 'correct' though but Revy's just 'official' now, hence why the site uses it.

Not going to contiue watching the series before the jp DVD release will start, but I actually wonder wether the Official site indicates the total episode numbers. If you look at the Story section of the site (http://www.blacklagoon.jp) it lists 12 episodes. I wonder wether this means it is planned for 12 episodes (which wouldn't be bad if the animation quality remains steady througout these tweleve episodes IMO) or wether that's just refering to the first bunch of 12 episodes...The official site for Studio Madhouse (http://www.madhouse.co.jp/) doesn't list a total episode count for Black Lagoon yet either though.

Hmm, the series seems to be going smoothly so far. Does anyone know the name of the ending? I think it's "Don't Look Behind" by Edison.

Aw man, I love this show. Love it. I'm astounded by how awesome all of the characters are--even Rock is great! I loved all of episode 2, but the scene in which he <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>took off his tie</span> was way too perfect. And every single thing Revy does is insanely cool.
Anyway, the two Haruhis make for very stiff competition, but I think Revy has got to be my favorite female character this season. I'd buy the Black Lagoon R2s if it didn't seem to be pre-licensed; this show was practically made for Adult Swim!

you thought episode 2 was good. Just wait till you watch episode 3. I have to agree that Revy is in a very hard competition for my favorite female character this year, in a heated competition with Haruhi from "Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu". I just love the interaction of Revy and Rock, In episode 2 Revy bought a shirt for Rock. She might be tough, but she is all woman.
I agree. I loved episdoe 3, and really wish Geneon could bring the series over now heh. In this episode most of the attention goes to Balalaika and her "team". I really liked this episode, as it showed that <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>she is pretty tough herself. She beats a guy up pretty bad this episode heh.</span>
I'm loving this show like most people in this thread are heh. It's my favorite show of the season /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif.
I really like the opening and ending to Black Lagoon, so I've been looking around to see when either would be available. According to the offical site, on June 14th the opening is coming out. Now hopefully the ending comes out soon /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif.

Well, episode 4 was a disappointment, but i guess they had to take a break from all the action in the last three episodes. They do it jumping back and forth in time to set us up for the black lagoon's next mission. They are going to salvage some paintings from a submarine that "sank" during world war II. Their opponents are modern day nazi. Like I said there is almost not action in this episode.
and I was hoping to see Revy chaning into her diving suit, but no luck. /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif

Picked up (http://dragonautics.co.at/pub/media/040506_2.jpg) the May issue of Sunday GX which included a feature article on the Black Lagoon TV anime adption. At the beginning of the article it has been unveiled that the lovely (and deadly "maid styled") Roberta is going to be voiced by no-one-less than Michie Tomizawa (Sumire Kanzaki from Sakura Taisen among many other roles)!
Furthermore it seems more and more likely that the series is really only 12 episodes in total. In the Sunday GX issue they unveiled the episode titles of these twelve episodes (maybe if anyone is interested and I find the time I can post the titles).
Damn this series makes it damn hard for me to endure the waiting until July..

AFAIK she did retire from voice acting (heck they even "let her character" Kanzaki Sumire retire from Sakura Taisen with her IIRC ^_~)...which is why I was quite surprised to read her name as Seiyuu for Roberta at the Black Lagoon feature.
Anyways the Official site for Sunday GX also updated and now states Tomizawa as Roberta as well (as can be seen here (http://websunday.net/gx/gxnews/anime.html))

To be precise, she quit GAME voice-acting.
So anime-work was still an option, and it appears that is what has happened.
Nice, I was wondering when she would make her apperance heh. While I'm dismayed that the series seems to only be 12 episodes , I would rather see twelve quality episodes then 26 stretched out or badly animated ones.

Yes she is hot! She just fit Revy perfectly, with the exeption you can tell she has short legs compared to Revy's long legs, but she fits the role very well.
Episode 6 was awesome, I am really scared of Revy and at the same time she is so Awesome. Poor Rock is for the ride of his life. I am amazed Revy didn't kill him right in there, she was just venting on the poor soldiers in the boat. Episode 7 will continue the problems between Rock and Revy. I think the show will end when both of them come to good terms to whatever kind of relationship they end with.
Yeh, you do kind of get this feel for a interesting relationship between Rock and Revy. I actually like the scenes where Revy goes off the deep end heh. I guess thats what makes her a great character though. It would be interesting to see her dressed up though, just to see what she looks like heh. She has that crazy attitude, but it's a under control crazy attitude.

Well, as expected Levy and Rock have a fight and they kind of made up at the end while being escorted by the police back home. I found it very inique the way that Levy showed affection toward Rock at the end. She asked him to light her cigarette with his, even though she could have asked one of the cops, like Rock did with his cigaratte. They kind of spent a long time looking at each other after Levy's cigarette was already burning.
Yeh. She has that craziness and who gives a shit attitude, but at times she seems like a normal person, which is the interesting part to me heh. The look on Balalaika's face is priceless when watching the video heh.

Hansel and Gretel? I actually hope that those two are going to be animated (if the anime is really going to be 12 episodes and Roberta just appeared in episode 8 though I guess that this won't going to happen...IIRC Hansel and Gretel appeared the first time in chapter 11 "Bloodsport Fairy tale")
Speaking of characters from Black Lagoon I'd love to see appearing and just having started reading Tankôbon 5 of the manga the other day...Madhouse must do a second season...if it's just for Yukio (http://skygarden.shogakukan.co.jp/skygarden/owa/solrenew_detail?isbn=4091570208) to be animated.
That said, I personally don't have a problem with such characters like Roberta or Hansel and Gretel in Black Lagoon. Of course it's over the top...but that's obviously what Rei Hiroe enjoys to add in his works (Parts of Hiroe's Fate/stay night *Ero* Doujinshi made me laugh my ass off i.e. the Project Tiger short). I think the slightly over-the-top characters added is also part of what makes this series that decent. Black Lagoon certainly won't win a price for the deepest, thought-provoking work ever done in manga history and as much as I love Hiroe's art (especially seeing how it refined and developed over the years) he IMO isn't the best manga-ka when it comes to fast/furious action sequences (I somewhat agree with Andrew Cunningham who *IIRC* once asked what the appeal for this series is, because the actions sequences and panel work by Hiroe within such scenes can be quite hard to follow) compared to other manga-ka of his caliber (i.e. Oh! Great...who can handle action sequences very well in Tenjou Tenge). For me its the characters that are the major appeal of Black Lagoon as each of them is somewhat unique in his/her own way.

Oh my gosh! This show rocks so much! I thought Levy was Cool, but Roberta is just the queen! Of course, Reberta has a past and Levy would be lucky to be able to compete with a special forces elite like Roberta. The little boy makes things worst by not wanting to go with Roberta after he saw her true nature, even though the stupid bugger was bragging that she was going to come to rescue him. Levy also made it worst by threatening The boy. This episode was so full of action that I watched it twice.
My rating on My favorite blue lagoon women!
Levy 9
Roberta 9.5

She also manhandle Dutch like he was a baby. I love how devoted she is to her "young master". Can you see Roberta in some Shota action. /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif

So I'm browsing HLJ and come across this (http://www.hlj.com/product/CSP23558) Balalaika shirt. Since it's in Russian, I don't know what the hell it says heh.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think it says "Be silent! Don't worry about the small fry." If it doesn't seem to mean much, it's because it's a quote from the Fujiyama Gangsta Paradise story arc about yakuza (which probably won't be animated unless there's a second season). (Balalaika holds the Japanese police's attention while Rock and Levy escape on a motorbike.)
Then again, I don't speak Russian. Also, Hiroe tends to use some English and Russian in the manga (with a tiny bit of Spanish) but the English at least is not very natural, so I'm not sure how natural the Russian is.
[ QUOTE ]
They also seem to have a Revy figure, but it doesn't look that great. Has anyone seen any other Lagoon merchandise around? I still wonder what that shirt says in Russsian /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif.
[/ QUOTE ]
Apart from the figures and the T shirts (HLJ has another design) there's very little in the way of Black Lagoon merchandise (unfortunately). I think a Black Lagoon shotglass would be appropriate /images/graemlins/happy.gif
The only other stuff I can think of is stuff that comes with Sunday GX magazine, like alternate manga covers and posters. My favourite Black Lagoon item is this alternate cover which came with the August 2005 issue of Sunday GX (around the time volume 4 of the manga was published) - a shoujo version cover for the manga (http://natsumemaya.net/images/bl4alt2.jpg) /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Hence Rock's comment (in the manga at least) about Schwarzenegger movies. I think Hiroe intended that scene to be reminiscent of Terminator.
Heh, thanks for posting that cover Natsume, that was awsome. I really wish there was more Black Lagoon merchandise, as the show is pretty good. I can't wait for the next episode, especially after seeing chambermaid in the title /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif.

Not nearly as decent as the Black Lagoon for Girls alternative cover...but the April issue of Sunday GX also came with an alternative cover for Tankôbon 5 of the series. I took a picture of it here (http://dragonautics.co.at/pub/media/260506_11.jpg) (speaking of which I somewhat think in general GX is pretty decent when it comes to alternative covers...I mean instead of just giving you an alternative illustration they come up with ideas *thinking of the "X-rated Sando" alternative cover for Shin Angyo Onshi*).
As for merchandise, there are also Rei Hiroe's Doujinshi (which he release via his circle TEX-MEX *quite often not as Hiroe but Red Bear as penname*). Back in 2003 (IIRC) he released one of his GET BY WORK Doujinshi which is subtitled as Black Lagoon loughs (yeah I know Engrish ^_~). The GET BY WORK Doujins are focused on Hiroe's works (while the majority of the other Doujins he releases are "focused" on other series such as Fate/stay night, To Heart, etc., I have some of his Doujins and took some picture in case you're interested here's the picture link (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=1355799&page=0&view=c ollapsed&sb=5&o=&vc=1)) containing rough art for these...and that particular one is for Black Lagoon.

Hmm, interesting. The offical OST sounds like fun and I plan to get that to(my wallet hates me). I really want the ending or a longer version of it. After a fast paced episode or a decent episode, that ED just seems to calm everything down heh. The op should be fun as the single comes out soon.
Black Lagoon has given me one of my favorite anime quotes ever heh. It's in episode seven around the starting where Rock and Revy go visit Balalaika. For some odd reason, Balalaika is editing porn. The conversation goes as follows:
*Revy is interested and watching the porn*
Revy: Hey, Hey, is that in her ass?
Balalaika: Right in her ass.
That was so unexpected, and exteremly funny with the look on Balalaika's face.

To Australia, less than a week. It's about the same delivery time as EMS, in my experience. The shipping notification from Amazon Japan should have given you a tracking number so you can track the package on the DHL website. The only downside with DHL Express, at least in Australia, is that if the package is of a certain value or more, you'll be hit with some importation charges.

Wow, I just got the five volumes of the manga and it really is a pitty that they didn't animated all the volumes. The twins arc was really good /images/graemlins/knowital.gif. The end of volume 5 was really messed up. I can't believe how Levy has become so protective of Rock, she even acted a little JEalous in Volume 4. <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>She even pointed a gun at Balalaika when Rock stood up to her and Balalaika put a gun in his face</span> I enjoyed this manga and I am really sad they only animated so little of the show. By the way, in the manga the episode where levy asked Balalaika about if it was in the ass, the manga uses the most common Oshiri [尻]
instead of the slang Ketsu [穴] used in the anime.
Yeh. The manga itself is really good, and I wish that someone would bring it over. This has happened to a couple shows though, where they decide to take a portion of the manga and animate it, rather then doing the whole show. Although one could hope that Black Lagoon is a huge hit in Japan, and that Madhouse will make more and that Geneon would fund it.

It didn't sell that well on initial release, so a lot of places that originally ordered it still have it in stock. Hobby Link Japan, which is a default place for a lot of the figure buyers here, has both Revy (http://www.hlj.com/product/SIT03005) and Roberta (http://www.hlj.com/product/SIT03006) still in stock.
The History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi figures didn't sell too well either, so you can still find Shigure and Miu at a number of stores (although Shigure has sold out on HLJ). Then again, most people probably weren't interested in these types of figures when they had never even heard of the series. (which is probably still the case for Kenichi)

Awesome ep, as usual.
They expanded on the manga material and made it even better!
<span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>(with flashbacks for all the strong women of Black Lagoon, the Levy and Balalaika ones are sort of like what we got later in the manga, but the Roberta one is brand spanking new!)</span>
Looks like the next arc is going to be (an adaptation of) Jihad, Goat, Rock & roll.
I wonder how they're going to do 6 manga chapters in 2 eps tho, unless they lied and it's more than 12 eps.

I would love to see a 26 episode Black Lagoon series, but I'll take a quality 12 episode one.
I'm looking forward to this episode though, due to the flashbacks.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, they expanded on the back story for Roberta in the visual side of things. <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'> I was laughing my ass at rock when he wanted to break the fight and Balalaika told him to go ahead, that they didn't care. The part where Dutch and Beni were going to get out of the car and then they saw all the fighting, and beni closes the door and told dutch that they better stay inside and dutch agreed, it was priceless. This episode was comedy gold even with all the fighting. Even though Balalaika call the fight a draw I think roberta won, she was still concious at the end </span> Balalaika looks hot with short hair!

[/ QUOTE ]Considering that they only have used material from 2 volumes of the manga and there is still 3 more volumes it can easily be 24-26 episodes. The latest chapters get really bloody, the twins arc and the Tokyo arc are awesome and has a lot of nice interaction between Rock and Levy. The Jihad arc is pretty good too, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Levy goes beyond duty to save Rock, you can tell that those two have bonded. I wonder if they are going to show Levy just in panties like in the manga.</span>

Your right, I think I was drunk or something with the 12 episode comment. Sorry. However like I said, I'm really hoping for more than 12. Mabey even a second season of 12 would be good.
Wow, sounds interesting. It would be a fitting way to end the series though, if the consolidate it into two episodes. If I remember right(haven't seen the episode, just what you guys have been saying) isn't Balalaika ex special forces? With short hair she reminds me of "The Boss" from MGS 3 heh.

I still think that young Balalaika looks a lot like "The Boss" from MGS 3. So, instead of stretching one chapter over multiple episodes, like they did at the beginning, episode 11 contains material from the first 4 chapters of the "Goat, Jihad, Rock & Roll" story.
I'm now convinced the next ep is going to be the last one.
The ep proper :
Not a bad ep, with a nice rendition of <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>the gunfight in the Lagoon offices.</span>
Unfortunately, they <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>cut almost the entire boat chase from chapters 17/18</span> and <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>toned down the baddies. No more turbans</span> /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

they have to be political correct with all the things going own around . /images/graemlins/happy.gif I heard someone said that they extended the
series to 15 episodes, so we might get the Tokyo Yakusa arc or the twins Arc if it is true. If the extension is true, I hope they do the tokyo Yakusa arc. The highlight for me in this episode is that they showed lovely Revy in panties in her room. The first and last panty Fanservice of Revy you would see as far as the manga goes. /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif
Edit:
Well, it seems the rumour about 15 episodes was wrong, from the newly made thread that now is taking another space on my favorite list till someone close this thread. It seems we only get 12 episodes. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif
Holy farking crap on a stick.. that was a great episode. I was a little put back at first by all the Revy fanservice in this episode. Not that it's a bad thing, but of course we've had shots of her, but this episode had more then all of them combined. I'm not complaining though, as the opening scene with her and <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Rock was done well, as he could care less if shes in her underware. </span>
This looks like a really well done episode, and if they end it how I think they'll end it: <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Revy risks her neck to save Rock(more then she has to), it'll be a good ending to the series. </span> Black Lagoon continues to impress, and I'm glad that Geneon has it locked up. After next weeks episode, the discussion beings on who should be in the dub cast heh.

Damn, I'm ready to buy this series now. It's too bad the turn-over rate between original airing in Japan -> US License -> Actual release is too many years apart. I loose interest by the time I see it on the shelves. As for the dub cast, I can only hope Beau Billingslea plays Dutch. As for the rest, let's just hope Revy is cast right. That's my only incentive to actually buying DVDs.
With Geneon, we might not have to wait years heh. I mean look at things like Fate and Ergo. Fate just ended, and is being worked on day and night according to Andrew(Geneon rep), and Ergo has a street date sometime in November, when it isn't even done airing in Japan yet. The same can be said for the Hellsing OVA. Although I don't think that Black Lagoon has been offically announced as a Geneon USA title. I mean we all know they have it, but I haven't seen news about it.
While I hope they can push it out this fall, I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the Geneon titles that gets pushed into next year. But if they can schedule Zipang for September, who knows.

I only bring the thread back up for some healthy AX specualtion. The show is pretty much Geneon's already(Geneon USA in the credits), but I wouldn't be surprised to see them announce a release date, or just announce that they have the license to Black Lagoon and show a trailer or so.
If they can get Ergo out in November, hopefully Black Lagoon won't be forgot about until next year heh.
Well, the last episode has aired. Yeh, the way the pictures looked(screen caps as it aired on Japanese TV), it did look like they ended it in a way that a second season could start right off again. Yeh. It just seemed to end so abruptly. The same thing happened with Emma, where they had to end it short due to funding. Although Black Lagoon seems to be fairly popular. Does anyone know the sales numbers or ratings that the series got in Japan?
The way they left it open makes me think that they were either planning on more but couldn't do it, or they'll resume it in the fall like Godannar was. A couple recent shows have had second seasons green lighted recently. I would not be surprised to see another season of Lagoon(or the rest of the show 13-24/26) airing sometime later this year or next year.
Well Geneon has confirmed what most us already knew, that they had Black Lagoon. We can expect it sometime in 07. Hopefully it's the first part of the year, as they're really rushing to get Ergo and Fate out. Can't wait to see who does the dub, and to see Lagoon Company on DVD.

And furthermore (also rumor and not yet confirmed) the Romanian twins will appear as Omi Minami and Tomoko Kaneda are rumored to be the Seiyuu for Hensel and Gretel /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
As said yet not officially confirmed by GX (however looking at the advertised "major news" that the Official site claims the upcoming issue will contain it's more than likely I'd say) but in a few days we'll probably know for sure ^_^
