based on the hit Korean Drama which was also huge in HK. An animation version has been decided. Here's the PDF file (http://www3.nhk.or.jp/pr/keiei/shiryou/soukyoku/2005/12/010.pdf) stating the decision.

I'm sorta suprised at this, didn't really expect an animated version. I guess this will attract more kids even though the drama show is oriented to people of all ages. Anyways, I only saw a couple episodes of this w/ my parents (who were following it religiously at the time) and must say that it's pretty good story and chara development wise. Though w/ 70 something episodes, it felt too dragged-on i heard.

Highest Export Price In Korean Animation History
NHK and JoongAng Ilbo mention the Shoujo Janggeum no Yume TV animation will air in Japan in April 2006. The acquistion marks the most money paid for a Korean Animation license to date. Although the actual figure has not been revealed, JoongAng Ilbo interviewed someone related to the MBC contents project team who said the amount of money was not inferior to exports of drama TV series. Additionally it was hinted the prictag rose to three times of the existing average animation export price. Plans are already underway to distribute the series throughout Asia

Didn't this run on the International Channel for a while? If I remember right, isn't it about the first female doctor or physician in the palace or something of that sort? I kept seeing commercials for it.

yeah, I've already seen some character drawings of the anime and must say it is uberly cute! lol However, I think they lowered the age range of the targeted audience. The anime really looks like it was made for kids. However, assuming they followed similar principles as the Korean TV drama, there are many morals to be learned.

With regards to the TV drama, it was a little longer that I'd like. They could have killed the last 5 episodes, but by including it, it really covers Dae Jang Geum's story without any open holes. IMO, it is the perfect and entire story. In fact, it is so complete that there is no need for sequels. I usually would like sequels since I can't get enough of something, but Dang Jang Geum is already long enough to give the entire series a closure.

Anyway, I hope they dub it in Cantonese R3, I'll be getting it if released in R1 or R3 or both /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif Yes, I'm crazy about this series as it is my favorite and the actress is unbelievably charming.

I thought the drama was a little long and she was way cuter when she was younger. Maybe now I can finally sort out the different ways of calling the people in green korean dress... /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif though an anime form of jang geum would be cool. I never saw the part where she actually became a doctor though.. I kinda then skipped to the end.
