possibly, according to this 'coming soon' image (http://img471.imageshack.us/my.php?image=20051224b7zl.jpg) from moonphase.
edit: title
Here is the Strawberry Panic (http://www.mediaworks.co.jp/users_s/gs/strawberry/index.php) main site. It ooks like a bunch of short stories. Looks like more fanservice/loli bait for that crowd.
So far this is all I've found out about it in general:
[ QUOTE ]
The basic "plot" is that there are three all-girl schools at which "yuri coupling" is a tradition. Each issue of Strawberry Panic, called Sto-Pani for short, includes short stories about each of the four "couplings," all of which are detailed on the website. The short, one-page stories about each couple that manages to be sweet, without actually, say, developing them at all as a couple.

Yuri couplings? I'm there! Speaking of all girl schools and yuri, I wonder if Koi Shimai (Loving Sisters) will ever be animated. *crosses figures*

Lol, me too. I saw the word strawberry and I instantly thought of IMMSE. I'd love to see a sequel to IMMSE, but I doubt that will ever happen. It would be hard to create the same tenseness that IMMSE created regarding Hibiki's situation all over again with the same characters after the ended that they left us with.
As for the picture, very pretty... I'd hate for it to just end up being another loli sentimental show though.

a bigger image plus info on staff, story, characters and school can be found here (http://www.mediaworks.co.jp/users_s/gs/strawberry/sp.php).
It looks like Mai Nakahara and Ai Shimizu are doing a radio promo for it. If they are the seiyuus for the show then my interest will definitely be piqued. The yuri theme doesn't hurt either.

Like the whole Marimite-esque pose of the two girls on the character's page (Nagisa Aoi and Hanazono Shizuma, I believe). They look the hot and heavy yuri lovers (see my avatar) /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif of the bunch (if any of the scans I've seen are any indication).

So it's Marimite with a really aggressive Onee-sama. Not that I'm complaining. Love the animation. Madhouse is awesome. And it has Mai Nakahara (Mai from My-Hime) and Hitomi Nabatame (Arcueid) as the main characters, Nagisa and Shizuma, along with Ai Shimizu playing two roles (at least, that ANN says). Can't wait for this show, along Simoun (the other shoujoai show).

I just watched the first episode, and I found it to be surprisingly likeable. The comedy actually works (at least in some parts), and it doesn't take itself too seriously. Animation & character designs are kind of bleh, but I can get used to them. At any rate, it managed to be pretty decent when I was expecting something on the level of Gakuen Heaven. A tentative thumbs-up for now.

Shizuma's great. She's a predator. She's going to stalk Nagisa, use her up, and then throw her away.
Then Tamao, crazy carrion eater that she is, will dash in and pick up the pieces.
Poor Nagisa, she has no idea whats going to hit her.

That's what I thought too. How many times does she have to use "kawaii"? I loved the way she <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>blushed at Nagisa in that one scene. And then when she locked Nagisa and herself in the room for bondage sex...I mean measuring Nagisa for her uniform.</span>
Edit: As for Shizuma, she seems like Sachiko, Sei, and Chikane rolled up into one. I would have said just Sachiko and Sei, but there seems to be a little Chikane as well, expecially when she first meets Nagisa by the tree (her expression after they touch hands screams Chikane for some reason).

I think I'm going to love this series. I just finished watching the second episode and I'm now rewatching episode 1. Not to say she's the only character I'll like. However Tamao herself definitely appeals to me. Although I feel slightly sorry for Nagisa. Since she's probably scared... However don't be Nagisa, give in and marry Tamao. It's your destiny. Well, the manga does explain Shizuma's situation for the onset, making it easier to see why she's drawn to Nagisa. And the manga is <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>a whole lot dirtier than the anime.</span> I think they're waiting to explain Shizuma a little more in the anime. Which I hope they do soon.
Speaking of another couple, I think Yaya and Hikari go back pretty far <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>which I guess explains Yaya's possesiveness of Hikari</span>. I saw an illustration of the two of them--several years younger--sleeping together in a bed while touching hands. While I'm reviving old disucssion threads I might as well hit this one up.
Anyway, I love it. It's cute, it's well animated, the designs are great (if a bit skinny, but it's anime so it's just a style choice), and I really like the voice acting.
Nagisa and Tamao instantly were familiar to me, so I checked ANN and saw that Nagisa is Mai(HiME)/Miina(Twins)/Rena(Higurashi) and Tamao is Mikoto(HiME)/Karen(Twins), and I really like how their voices worked together as a main pairing in HiME/Twins so this works well for me here as well. I kept trying to decide who in particular I was hearing when they spoke, and I think it's Karen and Rena that are coming to mind most. Anyway, they're enjoyable, as are most of the other voices.
Anyway, this is just really fun to watch, and it's the kind of show that doesn't really need a great plot or any action or deep mysteries and conspiracies to keep me watching. I'll just be completely content to watch the characters interact for 13 episodes, and I'll enjoy every bit of it.
I suppose the only thing bugging me is that they need to find a new gig for the Etoile besides "Oooh... oooooh... I'm gonna KISS you... I'm really gonna do it... MY LIPS ARE LIKE HALF AN INCH AWAY NOW AND... OH WE GOT INTERRUPTED, sorry, I'll have to molest you later." I mean, lets see, we have an almost kiss in the OP each time, and like 4-5 more just in the first two episodes or something and, er, it's getting old /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Oh sure it's cute and when it finally happens it'll just be all the better, but I think they're trying a bit too hard at the moment /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
But that's not really a significant complaint against the show itself.
In summary, this season is KICKING MY ASS WITH AWESOMENESS. Haruhi, School Rumble 2, Higurashi, Ouran, Strawberry Panic, Utawarerumono... and there are STILL a lot of shows I haven't tried yet. If these all get licensed, I am so screwed, but it's a screwing I will enjoy oh so much~

Not at all. I felt the same way the first time I saw it. It wasn't until I saw it for the third or fourth time that I really started to like it (and the song as well). Originally, I didn't care for the goth loli outfits (I guess you could call it that) they are wearing, but they don't bother me as much now.

WOW. /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif /images/graemlins/noseblee.gif /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif /images/graemlins/noseblee.gif

Am I weird for hating the ED and thinking it looks rediculous to have live action after an animated show? /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Yeah it's yuri and all, but it just seems so silly, so I wind up skipping it every time =P

I agree. It wierded me out on Miami Guns as well, and at least one other title I don't remember the name of. Only parts of it were live action, but that goth-lookin' dude bugged me.

The video doesn't bother me any. Its just coupled with the music. A bit jarring. Not sure how to descibe it, except they just don't seem to go together well

Yes! <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'> Shizuma finally planted a kiss on Nagisa's lips after they fall into a pool. Two showers later (separate, darn), Shizuma was... getting even friskier when she had a flashback and pulled away. It'll be intersting to see how this plays out. But at least they didn't keep teasing us with the 'almost' kiss for 26 epsiodes. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I'm glad that Shizuma seems like less of a predator now, to me at least. I think that was the thing I didn't like about her at first. It's like she's become alittle softer now that she's gotten to know Nagisa a bit. After seeing her in that dress she had on, you can clearly see how "soft" she is. /images/graemlins/noseblef.gif

Well, the fact that she pulled away after the flashback does show she has some reluctance to force herself on Nagisa. It'll be interesting to see what happened in the past that caused that reaction.
Also, Nagisa isn't exactly running away after the kiss. Seemed to be at least partially wanting to explore the feelings the kiss invoked within her. A shift from her earlier reactions to the near kisses.

New OP and Ed for this episode.
The songs were okay, but I think I liked the first pair better.
ED is still live action with some more flirting and <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>an actual kiss on the forehead instead of the near lip kiss</span>.
Opening animation is quite nice though. A few pieces of white cloth straticically placed during a sleepover. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
Story is progressing nicely, more fallout from <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'> the pool kiss. Tamao and Nagisa get closer. More on Yaya and Hikari. </span>

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on how many scenes in the opening are meant to be taken literally and even then the actual result may be a bit different. Still it does give us something to think about and hope for. Although since <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>the scene involves Tsubomi secretly watching Yaya sing. So, I finally caught up with this. The two things that I must get out first:
Chikaru is goddamned hot. Damn she was looking good as Carmen XD
Hikari is a rape magnet. She needs to start carrying around pepper spray. Or packing heat >_> She can't go two steps without getting molested.
At any rate, I continue to love this show. The "evil Spica bitch lesbian duo" is getting a bit old (when is someone going to put them in their place once and for all, damnit?) but besides that it's gold. Easily the most lesboriffic show I've ever seen /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
Lets see, what else to comment on... Chikaru's henshin club members amuse me so. The thumb wrestling "make-out-and-disorient-you-no-jutsu" move that the one pulled on the other totally made my day (well, night).
Nagisa bounced back oddly fast after her, uh, "encounter" with Shizuma in the pool (and on the bed), considering how dazed and confused she was at first about it all. That little quirk of pacing aside, she's still a great main character (and looked just as good as Carmen as Chikaru did). Her personality is just wonderful, she's cute, and I really like her voice actress.
Hikari and Yaya are still an interesting pair, although I do have to wonder what Yaya will do as the series draws to a close. It's clear Hikari only sees Amane (who is... a cool person and all, but meh, boring =P), and while they've already done a small "Yaya loses it and grabs Hikari's boobies but then they cry and make up" storyline, but I can't believe that that's it for Yaya's personal romantic struggle. If anything, I was surprised they closed that up to cleanly already. I suppose they'll just open it again soon.
Tamao is still perhaps my favorite character, although she's sadly not going to be the one Nagisa ends up with. Even though she's soooo the best choice =P I love Tamao~! Much like Yaya, they're going to have to deal with her love for Nagisa soon enough. I don't think it will be as dramatic as Yaya's struggle, but they keep dropping hints that Tamao is increasingly distressed that the one she loves has her eyes on someone else. And of course, we have Shizuma stealing Nagisa away from Tamao, despite the fact that Tamao had the date set up first... Tamao sure takes it like a trooper, but damnit, she shouldn't have to! Oh well, she doesn't stand a chance against Shizuma. Poor Tamao =(
Tsubomi... she's going to get an episode or two focusing on her before the series ends. She's clearly got some sempai/kouhai affection going on, but it hasn't been dealt with explicitly yet. Seeing a pattern here? /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
Shizuma is, well, Shizuma. It's obvious that she and Nagisa will get center stage in the last episodes, so I imagine they have a lot to deal with when it comes to whoever it was in her past (that dead Etoile) that still haunts her. Anyway, they dropped a pretty good bomb midway through 17 about how you need two people to run as an Etoile. It makes sense (more setup for the yuri), but I wasn't expecting it.
So who is going to run from Miator? I agree that Tamao would be great, but I don't think she's interested in that sort of drama, and wouldn't want to run with anyone other than Nagisa. Nagisa would not be cut out for the role of Etoile, so I hope they don't go that direction at the end /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif I assume Rokujou is graduating as well (think they said as much), so she can't run, and I don't know who she'd run with anyway.
And man, is it just me, or do these character designers/animators really know how to turn on the sexy when needed? /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Most of the time the girls are very thin, waif-like, and somewhat stylized (I sort of like the style actually, it makes them seem very thin without looking anorexic or anything). But when it's time for the sexxin (or Carmen outfit or bikinis)... ::thumbs up:: >_> <_<
This is definitely a show that could use a second season, were some of the characters not graduating. The primary appeal of this show is character interaction far more than plot (which, again, isn't bad -- I often prefer it), so I don't think they'd have a hard time extending the series. I don't know if there's more manga to go on though, or if they're even following it closely as it is. Either way, I predict I'll be reasonably content, but still left craving more after episode 26 concludes.

Agreed with pretty much everything said there - Chikaru has rose to my favourite character (previously was Tamao-chan) as she is so selfless and un-bitchy like those Spica girls - (the look in Kuon's eyes after Chikaru got the lead in Carmen was priceless, and Rokujou subsequent putting her in her place as well). Shame she didn't finish the play but Nagisa was a very good substitute.
I hope that Yaya isn't forgotten - after the whole 'mix-up' (and that's putting it mildly) between her and Hikari she has faded into the background. Hopefully she'll get back into the story, perhaps aided by Tsubomi (probably my favourite other character...'WHY DON'T I GET THE SAME APPLAUSE? :p)
I agree with Chiyo thought that Tamao would be a good choice for Etoile. I guess it has never been thought of before (thanks to Amane and the evil lesbian duo) but honestly, I could see either Tamao or Chikaru as the new Etoile. Neither seems to have shown much interest in it, but both are elegant intelligent girls, with skills of an Etoile (Tamao with her writing and Chikaru with her designing) and considering the favourite Amane doesn't seem interested (and Kaname will hopefully get her come upance for all her attempts at attacking Hikari) and would probably just run away with Hikari, Tamao or Chikaru would be great. Question is of course, who would they pair with?
Anyway, this show after episode 12 has really heated up and has quickly turned into the hidden gem of 2006 for me. More please!

"There's only you and me here," she says. And then the "YOU GONNA GET RAPED" alarms went off in my head XD The two of them, all alone in the middle of nowhere in a huge villa during a huge rainstorm. The melodrama was piled on so thick in this episode, with the overly dramatic voice acting and conveniently times lightning strikes... and I loved it /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
I still can't believe the episode didn't end with them making violent love on top of the piano, but Shizuma was clearly trying to restrain herself. Seeing her breakdown and cry was certainly illuminating an aspect of her character we haven't seen.
But really, what's up with anime characters and running around sobbing in violent thunderstorms when they're sad? Especially when they aren't wearing anything remotely suitable >_> You just showered Nagisa, now you're all wet and muddy again =P Sheesh!
Anyway, what I want to know is how Nagisa got back. Didn't they have to take a car to get to the villa? /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Anyway, this is where Tamao needs to sweep in and get Nagisa on the rebound! GO TAMAO! GO FOR THE KILL! The sexy, sexy kill.

Wow! "Viva la Yuri". this episode was just a yuri fest.
POOR Miyuki, she is so a good friend. For those that have been waiting for some Yuri, episode 19 has it all. This episode finally tells the story of Shizuma, Kaori and Miyuki. IT is /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif and at the same time /images/graemlins/noseblee.gif /images/graemlins/noseblee.gif. Next episode is Confession, I wonder who is going to confess to whom.

So that's the Etoile ceremony....
Anyway this episode reminds me of "Forest of Thorns" story arc in Maria-sama ga Miteru. The one off character, the tragic love story, the fall of the outright lesbian. The only thing that's better than Maria-sama's was the "lets get it on scene".
Still this is some great Yuri!! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed at the Kaori backstory too. It might have been lack of time to really explore her personality and spend more time on their relationship, but still wasn't that emotional to me.
It might have been better to let bits of the backstory out over several episodes than concentrating it all in this episode (they did do some bits here and there, but this was the primary episode where we really saw the details and it fell flat).

The problem is that this show works in character shorthand. Kaori is Sickly, and that's all we need to know about her, as she's exactly like every other <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>sweet girl that will die within a few months.</span> Shizuma is Angsty and Slutty so we all know that she's resolving issues over <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>her one twu wuv's death.</span> Nagisa is Dumb as a Post, so we know she has the purity of heart to heal Shizuma's wounds. The show refuses to try to break out of these stereotypes in any way, shape or form.
Also, I didn't really get what Shizuma's big connection to Kaori was. Unless it was, as I said to Fence, the fact that Kaori had the most attractive character design out of all the girls on the show, so Shizuma knows she'll never get anyone hotter.
Kaori would have actually been an interesting character if they had bothered to show her frightened, sad, or angry over her <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>imminent death</span>. Then it would have been more of a tragedy instead of that incredibly trite and annoying <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>"Oh, she was sooooo strong! She never cried! She just sat there like the blow up doll she was!"</span>

Uh, yeah, if the show is cliched it should at least work on trying to make the characters engaging.
As for Shizuma, perhaps I would have felt more for her if I understood why she was so in love with Kaori. The only hint we really got was Rokujou telling her that she was pretty and Shizuma's type, leading me to assume that Shizuma liked her because she looked like a gothloli vampire, not because there was actually something interesting and engaging about Kaori.

Rokujou looks good with that slightly longer hair she had three years back... Somehow, she's ten times more adorable. In any case, I guess it seems like sort of a weird thing to comment on, but I very much enjoyed the way they handled the flashback. I'm talking about the little details here and there... personalities were different, but not too much. Appearances were different, but not drastically. It just felt very apporiate as a whole, and it really did seem like "just three years ago", as opposed to many anime flashbacks that just seem to exaggerate things too much.
Also, Shizuma getting Rokujou all hot and bothered = win!
The whole "I'm gonna tell ya about the other Etoile... oh yeah I'm gonna... I really am... OH SNAP she ran away" deal with the previous episode didn't bother me much because I knew they wouldn't make us wait much longer for the details. I can see how it was frustrating and all, but I found the episode too humorous and overdone to hate XD
In any event, this episode was great, both on its own and as much anticipated backstory. And for the Kaori/Shizuma makeout scene under the tree XD Poor Rokujou though... I see now that she can understand Tamao's pain. Maybe she and Tamao can get together as a "third wheel couple" of sorts =P
I love Kaori's eyes. That red is so lively, yet so sad...
In the end I think I'm glad Nagisa heard it all from Rokujou. It just... seems appropriate somehow, and now that it's happened I can't imagine it happening any other way, including coming from Shizuma. As for next episode, it should be interesting to see what that's all about... Confession? Tamao to Nagisa? How will that turn out? /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Or is it something else? Can't wait to find out.
This show just gets better and better. Needs more Chikaru and her henshin club though.

Here are my thoughts about the future episodes:
<span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Nagisa will end up with Shizuma, but since Shizuma is graduating, she can't be Etoile anymore. Nagisa will be part of the next Etoile (because of her alturistic personality), but who'll be her partner? That's where Tamao comes in. I believe the Etoile have to be good friends, right? Maybe the Etoile ceremony will be between Shizuma and Nagisa as a symbolic gesture, but Nagisa and Tamao will end up being the next Etoile (because Shizuma will be out of school). It kind of parallels the Shizuma/Kaori/Miyuki story. Miyuki ended up helping Shizuma because Kaori died and Tamao will be doing the same with Nagisa because Shizuma will have left the school.</span>

This was one of my favorite episodes yet. <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>The Le Rim trio and Tsubomi-chan all got a lot of well-deserved screentime, but the one that really stole the show this time was Kagome-chan. Man, she was just SOOOOOOOOOO sweet! When she asked Nagisa if she wanted to cry, I couldn't help but get a little misty-eyed</span>.
But the big news for this episode by far is that <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Tamao said she loved Nagisa! Shame she didn't hear her though. Isn't that how it always is? Shizuma/Nagisa should definitely be wrapping up soon. It sure doesn't look like Nagisa has the strength to go through with being Shizuma's silver medal, though honestly, I think it's Miyuki that's gonna be the one that Shizuma ends up with. After all, she's been with Shizuma since the very beginning</span>.
On the Spica side of things, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Hikari/Amane is practically set in stone and I'm almost positive they'll represent Spica in the Etoile selections, but I really want them to resolve Yaya before all that. They've already proven that even after what happened between her and Hikari a few episodes back is anything but over and I hate watching her suffer every single episode like this</span>.
And when are the <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>evil lesbians going to come out with their ultimate final stage of their plan</span>! Get on with it!
MAN I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

I have no pity for the "Ohh, I love you so much I just HAD to force myself on you" and the "I know you're not interested in me, so I'll wait until you're asleep before forcing a kiss on you" duo. Especially with Tamao's lame little sob story about how she "had to go without a roommate for three years and it was soooo hard, boohoo boohoo...but now she's finally got someone to creepily obsess over!"

That's a little harsh. Tamao and Yaya honestly love Nagisa and Hikari, but this is a romance/comedy/drama anime, so there must be love triangles/squares/octogons/webs...

Shizuma would be several times creepier than Tamao if it wasn't for the fact that her intentions towards Nagisa are as clear as a pane of glass. (in other words, she's the "makes it clear she's interested" part, Amane is the "kind" part) Tamao, on the other hand, hides her intentions behind "friendship".
I agree that Tamao is an actual friend to Nagisa, but I don't think you can deny that she also uses it as a shield to hide her "Operation: Have Sex With Nagisa" plans. She uses Nagisa's innocence with less than pure intentions quite often. That's why I can't feel too terribly sorry for her when Nagisa gravitates towards the girl that's honest and upfront about her attraction as opposed to the one that's too gutless to take a chance.

It comes down to this.
Would Nagisa rather be used for sex by a friend who loves her, or be used for sex by someone who sees her as a substitute for her dead lover?

I just get rather sick of the argument that Yaya and Tamao DESERVE Hikari/Nagisa simply because they want them, and therefore Hikari/Nagisa are stupid idiots for simply not returning their affections. As I'm sure we'd all be tickled pink to discover our same sex friend that we weren't attracted to wanted to sex us up and wasn't afraid to either grope us without our permission or kiss us when we couldn't say no.

Hikari and Nagisa are not stupid idiots just because they don't return affection. Hikari is dead-set on Amane and has made that immensely clear to Yaya, and as much as Yaya doesn't want to admit that, that's how Hikari feels and Yaya will eventually have to accept that. Besides, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Hikari pushed her off once, so I'd think Yaya would be smarter than to try again</span>. And I still think the only reason Hikari wants to be with Amane is because she knows <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Amane won't rape her</span>.
As far as Nagisa/Tamao/Shizuma goes, I still support Nagisa/Tamao. Shizuma has made it blatantly clear that to her, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Nagisa is just a replacement for Kaori</span>, and that's GOT to hurt. I don't blame her at all for feeling the way she does. Now as far as Tamao goes, it could be that people are looking WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much into it. Tamao has never openly shown signs that she wants to molest Nagisa outside of Ep. 1, and even then I can chalk that up to she was just REALLY happy to have someone she can spend all her time with at last, and it's becoming clearer that she is afraid that Nagisa will leave her for Shizuma and <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>she will be alone again</span>. Yes, Tamao's clingy, but that doesn't make her horny. Nagisa/Tamao all the way.

Look, the "Tamao-the-molester" inferences were humorous hyperbole on my part. Kinda like how I refer to Hikari as "Hikarape-bait". It seems that by focusing on that, you have glossed over other, more grounded aspects of my argument.
Tamao misconstrues her attraction to Nagisa as friendship, knowing that she is attracted to her. That is creepy. It is creepy because she isn't being honest with Nagisa about her intentions. Yes, those intentions could possibly not include getting Nagisa to sleep with her at one point. And the moon could possibly be made of green cheese. (Note that I didn't say that sleeping with Nagisa is all she's interested in)
It is creepy that she confessed to Nagisa and kissed her while she was asleep. C-R-E-E-P-Y. At least Yaya-the-groper came out with her feelings and faced rejection; at least Hikari could make it clear that it wasn't something she wanted from Yaya. It is creepy that Tamao couldn't seem to make a friend within three years unless they were confined together with her. It's creepy that she has made that one friend--who could have been anyone--the main focal point of her life at school.
Don't get me wrong, as Fence pointed out, I'm not a Shizuma/Nagisa fan. At all. In fact, if you threatened me with hot pokers and forced me to choose, I'd probably choose Tamao/Nagisa. That still doesn't NOT make it the lesser of two evils.

***SPOILERS--READ AT OWN RISK***
Sorry to step in late--just watched 20. Recognizing that you referred to your Tamao characterization as humorously meant, I'd still like to address it. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
Your portrayal of the "creepy Tamao" is incredibly cynical. Another interpretation of her actions could be that she is purposely holding back from announcing her feelings to Nagisa as she recognizes that Nagisa is not ready for additional emotional baggage. She is, after all, trying to be supportive--as evidenced by her overt actions.
As to the question of Tamao hiding her feelings behind the friend facade, don't millions of would-be lovers do this everyday? It's a standard romantic triangle plot device, and is hardly considered "creepy" in any of those other situations.
Frankly, I think your statements are merely meant to be provocative. Tamao has done absolutely nothing that even smacks of creepiness to me. So she kissed Nagisa on the cheek while she slept, and confessed her love to the sleeping Nagisa. My God, she's a perv! Who ya kidding? /images/graemlins/knowital.gif

this is a MiyukiXShizuma episode. <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>We get a juicy kiss between Miyuki and Shizuma and then a slap, at the end I got the impression that Miyuki was actually in love with Kaori and not with Shizuma. They find a letter from Kaori to Shizuma in the Etoile pendant's case where they keep Kaori's pendant. After Shizuma reads the letter who is just Kaorio asking Shizuma to go on living without her, Miyuki starts crying and calling Kaori's name, this is when Shizuma finally realizes that Miyuki also was in love with Kaori and why she was always be her side. Shiuzuma finally returns the etoile pendant thus allowing the start of a new Etoile selection. </span> This was a good episode because we finally got some MiyukixShizuma service /images/graemlins/happy.gif. This also opens the door for a NagisaxShizuma reconciliation if we go by the previews for episode 22.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate."
[ QUOTE ]
Fanboy or Fanboi is a term used to describe a male who is utterly devoted to a single subject or hobby, often to the point where it is considered an obsession. The term originated in comic book circles, to describe someone who was socially insecure and used comics as a shield from interaction, hence the disparaging connotations. Fanboys are often experts on minor details regarding their hobbies, and they take these details extremely seriously. The term itself is often used in a derogatory manner by less serious fans of the same material. Nevertheless, self-labeling usages of the term have been noted; in the songs of the fannish parody musician Luke Ski, many characters proudly consider themselves fanboys. The term is usually applied to people in their teens or 20s. Within this group, common objects of deference for fanboys are TV shows, movies, anime, cars, video game consoles, video games, operating systems, MMORPGs, ISPs and software companies.
[/ QUOTE ]
http://www.answers.com/topic/fan
The above is a definition somewhere close to my own. In my experience, "fanboy" refers to obviously male fans with a penchant for fanservice, and a tendency to glorify and objectify fictional female anime characters.
I've often heard the term used in insulting contexts, both here and elsewhere. Moreover, there is a tendency by the so-called otaku elite to denigrate "fanboys" as somehow inferior fans due to their tendency to focus on what they consider matters of lesser import within the hobby (e.g., fanservice).
The funny part is that many of the so-called otaku elite evince what would be called "fanboy" traits by many, but don't seem to recognize it. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Besides, I wasn't even talking to you. I was talking to the guy who thinks creepy behavior patterns are oh-so-cyuuute when it's girls doing them. You're the guy that mourns the fact that it's no longer PC to molest girls and doesn't see anything creepy about Tamao invading Nagisa's personal space because you did it when you were a kid.

Ouch! /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif That, I take it, was "one of those times?"
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that someone who would be so quick to stereotype another based on a few offhand comments in an online forum, wouldn't hesitate to tarnish their character based on a misinterpretation of a few others.
The power of anonymity is so refreshing isn't it? You don't even need to be civil, after all, we're not neighbors, and who in the community do you have to answer to?
Personally, if I went around trashing people's character online, I'd feel guilty about it. But conscience is a joke @ www.

well what did you expect for a flashback character?
i am guessing the manga/novel did a better job with that. the anime is more focused on the present day with nagisa and hikari. I am guessing for the future etoile battle between the 2 schools. Although with the focus mainly on Nagisa, I will guess she will be the next Etolie... how in the world that will happen I cant even guess. Since Amane seems to be the overall star after Shizuma.
I wish it would be a pairing between Nagisa and Chiyo but I guess based on the previews its Nagisa and Tamoya.

Goddamnit Shizuma, I'm liking you less and less. Sure it's interesting to see the cold and calculating Miyuki freak out a bit, but those weren't the circumstances I was really hoping for. It did put Shizuma in her place a bit though... she really deserved that slap. Woke her up a bit.
Anyway, I really like Miyuki so I was glad to see her get more screentime, even if her voice actress does, er, cry awkwardly /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Oh, and nice of Shizuma to realize what Miyuki means to her, finally. About time =P
Anyways, Kaori is finally a thing of the past, which is good. As a plot device she's done her job and given us the glimpse into why Shizuma is like she is, and that's good enough. I didn't expect or want much more from her, which is why I guess I'm not all up in arms about her "lack of development" or whatever.
And Gothlin, as for your guess that Miyuki was in love with Kaori... I really don't get that vibe at all. She cared about Kaori, but not like that. Or am I alone in thinking so?
And in the end, I submit Chikaru and Tamao for Etoile, because they kick ass ::nods:: What year is Chikaru anyways? I can't remember if she's graduating too or not, and am too lazy to go check. I assume she is.

I thought Miyuki liked Kaori for a second too, mostly because of the vibe of ep 20. However, upon thinking about it, I realized this show can't imagine two females being friends without at least one having the hots for another, and have since revised my opinion of the situation.
Really, I don't know. I think the emphasis was too much on "Shizuma telling Miyuki she'll always care about her [just not in that way]" for it to be read as "Miyuki loves Kaori". It's possible either way, I suppose.

Quite right--you're entitled to your opinion, and free to discuss in pretty much any way you like. Besides, spirited "discussions" are much more fun!
Anime, by its very subject matter, requires that one suspend one's disbelief: 15 year old is the only one who can save the world by piloting super-sophisticated mech... huh?
Even something with the gravitas of Planetes requires that one do so: e.g., even a debris hauling outfit requires a top quality org to carry out its mission when done in space.
Absent of that suspension, large chunks of the medium become utterly ridiculous. So if one decided to drop this pretense, then one could pretty much trash anything they chose.
From my perspective, it's merely provocative to call a show "shit" when, at the very least, it's sufficiently interesting to keep one watching. After all, there is so much actual "shit" that cannot even be sat through, let alone watched with the avidity with which you seem to view Strawberry Panic.
There are anime out there that get me snoozing in the first episode. How would those be categorized? Can you go lower than "shit?"
FTR, Strawberry Panic is, in my mind, no masterpiece. And like you, I like to take a shot at it now and then--as I did in an earlier thread.
But I also think that it's quite fun, and therefore not "shit"--which characterization I save for the actual tripe.

Personally, I would classify anime that are too dull to watch as "boring". They might be well done in other respects, which saves them from being termed shit.
In my opinion, SP has extremely shallow character development and is hell bent on stretching a plot that would probably should take about six episodes into twenty six. Even worse, it has almost no variation in any of the main relationship types. It would have been more interesting if there were dislikes and platonic friendships among the main characters to go along with all the romance, especially in a school setting. It's production values are mediocre at best.
Basically, from where I'm standing, it's a pile of shit dressed up in some old 70's girl/girl romance cliches in order to give it legitimacy.

The characterisation in Maria Mite is a lot stronger than SP.
SP is basically MM-lite with more gropage but much much weaker characters and more fan-servicy elements. Clearly made to resonate with a similar fanbase but certainly lacks the better elements of MM's script writing, nicer art and ultimately the storyline in SP is presented in a much less convincing fashion (a lot of the relationships and situations seem to be going by the numbers - as it were).
Just like Rahxephon is Eva-lite /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
There are many examples of cliche ridden or homage ridden series that transcend their parentage. Sadly SP isn't one of them - although it does provide a pleasent divertissement. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Obviously cliche is a relative term: One person's cliche is another person's epiphany. I've only ever heard the term used in the perjorative sense. Thus, "dressing up in cliches" is "bad" in my frame of reference.

Clearly made to resonate with a similar fanbase

You and Fence appear to disagree over the audience. So which is it and why?

SP has more fanservice and has more of a feeling of being aimed at guys. Mariamiteru Has more a feeling of shoujo even though it appeals to Yuri fans.

Because a series is aimed at a gender doesn't mean the opposite gender won't like it. we are discussing who the series is aimed at regardless if anyone else can enjoy it.

I don't think that Shoujo/Shonen distinction is of particular use.
SP is a series that would not have happened without the phenomenon that was Maria Mite. Just like Rahxephon would have never been written without Eva.
There is no-doubt that Maria Mite exudes a more shoujo-feel than SP. There is also no doubt that Maria Mite generated a truckload of avid/rabid male fanboys (me included). Whether this was deliberate or in-advertant for a series meant for girls - who knows? Just like it came as a surprise to the creators of Saiyuki that their fanbase was mostly female or Gundam Wing's big female fanbase - although that may have been more deliberate.
Lets have a look at parts of the key creative team - ie director and script/scenario writers behind both series.
Strawberry Panic
Director- Masayuki SAKOI, Series Comp - Tatsuhiko URAHATA
Both do not have a lot of shoujo titles to their names.
Maria Mite
Director - Yukihiro MATSUSHITA, Scenario writers Reiko YOSHIDA, Genki YOSHIMURA, Natsuko TAKAHASHI
have a boat load of Shoujo and Shonen titles behind them
SP was created to tap into the fanboy reservoir that Maria Mite created and perhaps draw more in with its more Shonen-style appeal. Along the way, however, it lost part of the very atmosphere that made Maria Mite a more compelling series to watch and replaced it with superficial yuri/service instead.
And if in doubt Fence was wrong about Donuts. So it may my turn to be wrong. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
