So I started watching Onegai Twins again. And I noticed this girl Tsubaki, the upper classman with a crush on Mike. What is her malfunction anyway (yes, I do know her specific malfunction, but I mean it more in the sense of 'where does she get off')? I mean, she picks Mike for her infatuation because she assumes he won't lay a hand on her. But what if Mike had been into her? What did she expect to happen when he decided he was ready to move beyond simply being in her presence? I mean, it seems to me like she was kind of a bitch, since her intentions were apparently to deny him any sort of adult relationship while continually coming on to him at every opportunity. Anyway, what do you guys think?
On a completely unrelated note - I love the English dub cast. They are all awesome! If only Monica had been able to be in it too....

Spoilers basically for the whole series but not too many specifics, read with caution. I'm not tagging since the subject line says spoilers already:

I don't think any of that was a premeditated on her part as you made it out to be. Besides, the "gay" guy (cant remember his name...) was exactly the same. Both had a bad breakup (with each other to boot), and both tried to move on by hitting on Maiku (I think it was Kellory who said Maiku actually is a Japanese name, go figure). I don't think they did it with any bad intentions in mind, and I *do* think they both genuinely liked him quite a bit. In the end though, they realized that they were in denial, and when it became obvious that Maiku cared for Karen and Mina above all, it was even more obvious that, in the end, they were meant to be with each other... not fighting over Maiku.
I don't really feel like that made her a bitch. She never did anything all that terrible to Maiku, and they always remained friends. I liked her.

Do they really call him "Mike" in teh dub? /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif
And I have to agree with disarm on this general topic. I don't think she did any of it just to be a bitch.

Hell, they call him "Mike" in the sub (well, close enough to be almost indistinguishable).

Hmm? I just got done watching this subbed a few weeks ago and I swear they used Maiku.
Edit: Just checked the back of one of the DVD cases and it's spell Maiku. Or maybe you mean thats how they pronounce it, in which case the last 'u' is often skipped over or only weakly in a lot of words, so that could be part of it. Like Kellory (or, again, whoever it was) said, Maiku's name is actually written in kanji apparently, not katakana as it would be if it were Mike. -- From the official website: 神城麻éƒ?(ã?‹ã?¿ã?—ã‚?ã?¾ã?„ã??)

Edit2: But, er, yeah I don't want to derail this into a Mike/Maiku discussion /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Just sayin'

Oh trust me I'm not arguing (or trying to, anyway). I watched the series dubbed originally, and the first time they called him "Mike", I thought they were mangling his name (as I also noticed it was spelled Maiku both on the cover art and in the subtitles). I switched it over to the Japanese dub and listened carefully; most of the time, the "u" was either entirely silent, or very softly inflected. This may vary throughout the series (as Japanese females often stretch out "u" sounds for "cuteness", i.e. "desuuuuuuu"), but at the points I sampled it, it sounded remarkably like "Mike".
I noticed that his name was often spelled in Hiragana (which would imply that "Maiku" is not merely a romanization of "Mike", but that may also be the character's personal preference). I beleive on at least one occasion though, it was spelled in Katakana, indicating it to be a foreign word. That, coupled with his unique eye color, lead me to believe that the intent was that "Maiku" was intended to be "Mike".
I've seen this debate rage several times before, and I don't think anyone's come to an entirely convincing conclusion. Personally, I don't think pronouncing it "Mike" is mangling the name, based on evidence I've read. I know the name "Maiku" is a Japanese male's name, albeit very rare.
It's a coin flip.

The characters are only half Japanese, so Japanese names that sound foreign were intentionally chosen for them.

I personally think that Tsubaki was one of the worst things in the series and was a major factor in ruining the whole series.

You wanna know what ruined Please Twins?
Start with repeating "We might be relatives... we might be strangers" umpteen times.
Then "Love Alliance rule yadda yadda yadda."
But what really ruined Please Twins was episode 13, which is my choice for worst "extra" episode ever.
(Personally, I liked Tsubaki.)

I've seen you say this at least once before and was going to ask why, but then thought better of it... but because this is a thread about Twins, and because I'm confused and curious... why? I thought it was pretty fun, albiet slightly out of character for Karen, but it provided a nice "after the fact" look at things. It was Ichigo in top evil fufufu form as well, which I always love. I definitely liked it better than the Teacher OVA episode.
If I had to guess, I'd say it was Karen's sudden psychotic clinginess that annoyed you... Or was it something else?

Alright, even if I really liked the episode, I can understand this at least. It was really, really out of character, but I guss I approached Twins 13 as a sort of greatly toned down Excel Saga 26, sort of.
So, fun for me, but not in line with the tone of the series, and I guess I can see how it would annoy people.

Well, it's Geoduck, I wasn't complaining, but he confirmed that it was indeed the out of character way they acted that annoyed him, which I can understand even if I don't agree. I loved both OVA episodes... but not everyone is going to.

yes, Karen was way out of Character on ep 13, to clingy compared to how she was played on the series, but basically ep 13 on Onegai Teacher/Twins was putting the characters in out-there situations

This is what pretty much ruined the series for me too.
I hated the first disc, liked the second, didn't like the third as much, then loved the fourth, and than that episode came and I couldn't stand it. Ugh. So, I guess it wouldn't take a whole lot for me to sway either way on the series.
