View Full Version : The Winter 2006 season: What will you be watching?

Lego

Through various threads that Rogue has posted and others, we're kept aware of shows that will air, or are announced. While I find Rogue's threads helpful, I mainly check Moonphase for announcements and etc. So I figured with the Winter season coming up, I'd make a thread asking what everyone was watching.

If you're the first person to mention a certain show, please provide(if you can) a link to the shows offical site, and a plot summary.

I didn't write these summaries, ended up using AniDB for em.

Magikano (http://www.magikano.com/)

[ QUOTE ]
Yoshikawa Haruo is a common junior high school student. No, exactly speaking, he is very stupid. His only pride is a prize of full attendance, and his hope in future is longevity.
He is living with three cute sisters peacefully. One day, a beautiful girl, Mamiya Ayumi transfers to his class. Somehow, she begins to live in his house as a maid. In fact, Ayumi is a witch, and she is cursed. To break her curse, she needs Hoaro’s magical power, and she plots to awake his magical power. To protect Haro from Ayumi, his three little sisters disturb her. To be surprised, they’re also witches. Haruo’s normal days turn into turmoil. Whether will he break her curse? What happened to Haruo and Ayumi to put a curse on her?

[/ QUOTE ]

Sounds like standard harem fair, but I like the character designs.

Fate/Stay Night (http://www.staynight.com/)

[ QUOTE ]
Emiya Shirou is a highschool boy who lives in Fuyuki City. His parents died in a fire when he was young, after that he was adopted by an old man who refer himself as a sorcerer, but he died too.
What Shirou doesn`t knew, is that the underground of Fuyuki City is the place of a great war.
When the time is right, sorcerers from near and far gather with their Servants - the summoned spirits of heroes so mighty they exist outside of time - and fight a war for possession of the Holy Grail, a relic said to grant its owner a wish. The true names of the Servants reveal their weaknesses, and so they are usually referred to by a classification of type instead; Saber, Archer, Rider, Berserker, Lancer, Caster, and Assassin.

One day, Shirou saw a fight between two servants, Archer and Lancer.
To preserve the secrecy of the war, Lancer mortally wounds him; but a girl who up until now seemed a normal classmate of his, TÅ?saka Rin, saves his life using a magical pendant.
On his way home, Lancer attacked him again. Just before he`s about to die for good, the servant Saber appears before him, greeting him with the words "Are you my master?"

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm a Type Moon fanboy, so of course I'll be watching this.

Kagemamo (http://www.aniplex.co.jp/kagemamo/)

[ QUOTE ]
Kagemori Mamoru is a dowdy boy whose hair is disheveled and wearing thick glasses. But actually he is the son of a ninja family. They have protected their neighbor, Konnyaku family, secretly for 400 years. Mamori has also protected the daughter, Konnyaku Yuna, since they were in the kindergarten. When Yuna is in trouble, Mamoru puts on ninja suit quickly, and he turns into a competent ninja to help her.

[/ QUOTE ]

While I don't like the character designs, Aniplex does good work, so I'll keep an eye out.

Rescue Wings (http://www.rescue-w.jp/)

[ QUOTE ]
Second Lieutenant, Uchida Kazuhiro, is a new helicopter pilot. However what he really wanted to be was a fighter pilot to fly at supersonic speed in stratosphere. But he faced a harsh reality. During the pilot training, he was transferred to the rescue helicopter course. Now, he is working for the Komatsu Rescue Squad whose mission is only rescue.
At first he is depressed because he is assigned to the position that he doesn’t wish. But, joining various missions, for example, rescue of airplane accidents, missing in mountains, earthquakes, and so forth, he gradually thinks it a challenging job.

[/ QUOTE ]

J.C. Staff is funding the show, with help from Bandai Visual. This looks and sounds like it could be similar to Planetes(series wise). It also seems like they did their research and looked at real helicopters.

Tactical Roar (http://www.tactical-roar.com/)

[ QUOTE ]
In the near future, a stagnant giant typhoon so called “Grand Roar suddenly appeared in the West Pacific Ocean. The typhoon changed the world climates. Also, it changed the world picture considerably. The rise of the sea surface, change of ocean currents, and change of the climates caused a lot of damage to all over the world especially Asia. Later, the disaster was called “Case Omega, and it was deeply engraved on the history.

50 years have passed since “Grand Roar appeared, they are recovered by the bloody effort. The importance of the ocean route is realized again, and they enter into the second “Age of Discovery. However, there is a dark shadow over the development. It is organized terrorists, namely, “pirates. To cope with pirates, private enterprises organize armed self-defense organization.

This story is about girls who embark on an escort ship of a private enterprise in order to fight against pirates.

[/ QUOTE ]

While I hope this doesn't turn out to be full of fanservice, I'll watch it. It reminds me of Vandread a little, and the character designs have a "soft" feel to them.

Ergo Proxy (http://www.ergoproxy.com/)

[ QUOTE ]
In a world where humans and robots live together, there exists a domed city named "Romudo". Under full management control, it is a paradise which does not need feelings. But this utopian landscape is soon broken by a series of mystifying murders. Ril Meyer, a female inspector from the Citizen Information Board, is tasked to solve the murder cases. As she digs deeper, she is soon entangled into the mystery of the "Awakening", which will change her life, and the lives living in Romudo...forever.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is going to be my "show to watch" this season. With a star studded staff list, Manglobe doing the animation, and it being presented in HD, I'm looking forward to it.

Ayakashi - Japanese Classic Horror
january
http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/ayakashi/
[ QUOTE ]
Based on the kabuki classic "Toukaidou Yotsuya Kaidan" (1826) written by Tsuruya
Nanboku, one of the most famous ghost stories in Japan.

The third installment in Fuji Television`s "NOITAMINA" late-night anime time slot. Previously shown shows were Honey&Clover and Paradise Kiss.

The designs of the anime, which is based on the classic Japanese horror tales Yotsuyakaidan, Ten Shu Monogatari and Bakeneko, will be done by Yoshitaka Amano.

[/ QUOTE ]
Amano, noitamina. I would buy the Z2 DVD if they were already out.

Ray
28/12
http://ray.tv/
[ QUOTE ]
Based on a manga by Yoshitomi Akihito.

Ray grew up on a farm, one that breeds and raises people as living, breathing organ donors. As a donor herself, Ray had her eyes taken away from her, but was given the gift of sight by a stranger. Ray`s new sight, however, was far from ordinary. She was given x-ray vision. We meet Ray ten years later, now off the farm, working as a nurse and an underground medical doctor performing procedures for profit. A chance encounter with an old friend triggers Ray`s memories of her difficult childhood, which inspires her to try to find the donor farm on which she was raised.

Kashimashi - Girl Meets Girl
january
http://www.kasimasi.com/

He saw a big shooting star, and when he began to wish, he found something was wrong. It wasn’t a shooting star, but it was a falling space ship. He was involved in the crash. He managed to survive by the help of the alien. However, he became a girl due to the accident during the reconstruction of his body.

No high hopes AT ALL, but it might be fun, and the drawings are pretty, so I will watch at last the first 2-3 episodes...

EDIT : After having read the first volume of the manga, i think I will pass on this one, finally >_<

Shinigami no Ballad
march
www.momo100100.com (http://www.momo100100.com)
[ QUOTE ]
Anime adaption of Hasegawa K-Ske`s series of Shinigami no Ballad "lite novels". The six (so far) Shinigami no Ballad novels tell the story of "Momo the Girl God of Death."

[/ QUOTE ]
I like the illustrations of the novels, so I hope the anime adaptation'style will be kept as close of it as possible of the original.

And I don't forget Fate/Stay Night. Like everybody else. ^^;;

I'll have to watch Fate/Stay Night, mainly because I'm a Moon-type whore as well and the fact that Tsukihime is one of my favorite shows of all time. Ergo Proxy also looks amazing (thanks to Geneon to liscensing this and F/S) and deserves to be watched. Tactical Roar might be good, but I'll have to check it out to see if the concept pays off or not. Kashimashi - Girl Meets Girl is a show about lesbians, so of course I'll have to watch (even if does have some freaky transgender issues), but as to the question if it's any good or not only time can tell. All in all, a couple of really interesting shows to watch, but after the fantastic previous season (Shakugan no SHANA, My~Otome, Karin, etc), it'll be tough to beat. Still, it's good to know the 2 shows I really want to see have already been liscensed and should hopefully be released next year.

And yeah, you can tell by my avatar I'm a Fate/Stay Night fan; the artwork is just too good! Which probably why I can't stop myself from making Saber wallpapers...

Same. It takes the guessing out of knowing if your favorite show of the season(or year) will ever get a license and etc.

I haven't seen next year's schedule for winter, though if you can provide it, it would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime I'll just list what I'm looking foward to and edit it accordingly:

Fate/Stray night
The wings of Rean
Ergo Proxy

AniDB(the place the summaries came from) has a advanced search button where you can put in the year(2006 in this case) and go from their.

I'm too lazy to produce summaries and it's not always easy to tell WHEN in 2006 these will air or anything, but I'll probably check out (TV series only, no prelicensed titles included):

Kashimashi (http://www.kasimasi.com/ might as well)
Binchou-tan (http://brobanguide.jp/mobanimation/02.html haha, I must)
Renkin San-kyuu Magical? Pokaan (http://www.magipoka.com/ not sure... I like the designs on the front page, but when I clicked on the character page I was underwhelmed.)
Manabi Straight (http://www.ufotable.com/manabi/ assuming its not creepy loli or anything)
Ray (http://ray.tv/ Dunno, looks interesting)
Black Lagoon (http://www.blacklagoon.jp/ mebbe)
Utawarerumono (no link, decent char designs)
Fate/Stay Night (http://www.staynight.com/ might as well)
Mahoro Gakuen (http://www.office-ao.co.jp/mahoro/mahoro.html watched the trailer, which was just stills and lots of talking, but I like the occasional use of patterns, vaguely similar to Gankutsuou)
Shinigami no Ballad (http://www.momo100100.com/ been waiting for this one for awhile, not sure why, but looks interesting)
Baldr Force EXE Resolution (http://www.web-giga.com/baldrforce/bf_top.htm ah heck why not, I haven't seen much sci-fi lately)
Kagihime Monogatari Eikyuu Alice Rinbukyoku (http://www.kagihime.jp/ It seems to have a library or something on the homepage, so sure why not? XD)
REC (http://www.tbs.co.jp/rec-aka/ about someone trying to be a voice actress, might be interesting in an ironic sort of way)

And hell thats enough, I'm basing these decisions on... almost nothing /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif And basically, I'll try just about everything when it comes down to it. I'm really just going by designs on most of these since most don't have descriptions. So, yeah, I almost never have a list of shows I eagerly await when I go into a new season (barring exceptions like Otome and such), and don't even know what of the above is coming out soon, so meh =P

I'm honestly not that sure yet. I think I'll just take it one step at a time. Maybe worry about each series around the time they air and then move on. Even if I plan ahead, I may change my mind about some series. Even to the point of forgetting about one series while noticing another I over looked.

I'm not sure what I'll be watching, but after that description of Kagemamo, I'll definitely be watching it /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

12-30-2005, 01:42 PM
The obvious one is of course Ergo Proxy (http://www.ergoproxy.com/), but most likely I'll just watch an episode or two to get a taste and then wait for Geneon's inevitable DVD release. Other than that I haven't seen much interesting planned for the next year, however the ones I might try out are:

Binchou-tan (http://brobanguide.jp/mobanimation/02.html) - Because she has a log on her head.
Himawari! (http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/himawari/) - Character designs look fairly attractive.
Ayakashi (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/ayakashi/) - Though there's a good chance I won't be able to stand the Amano designs and drop it.
Shinigami no Ballad (http://www.momo100100.com/) - Could be worth a try.
Witchblade (http://www.witchblade.jp/) - Could be some nice action, could be crap. Since it's GONZO it'll probably be the latter, but who knows?
Black Lagoon (http://www.blacklagoon.jp/) - Don't know much about it, but at least it's Madhouse.
RAY (http://ray.tv/) - What is the deal with Black Jack, why is he on the webpage? Was he in the manga as well?

Splitter

Magikano
Fate/Stay Night
Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~
Kagihime

And I'll be continuing with Bleach as well.

Just a heads up on the season. It seems that Lemon Angel will air on the 2nd and Magikano on the 3rd. I'm looking forward to having a fresh season of shows to look at.

I'm waiting for Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~. Fate/Stay Night and Ergo Proxy will coming from Geneon, so I'll wait for the R1s.

I figured I would make another post since a good chunk of the shows on my list have aired. Sadly it seems the only one that seems interesting(to me) is Fate/Stay Night. While I don't mind fanservice/harem type shows, that seems like all we've been getting.

Hopefully Rescue Wings and Ergo Proxy will be good.

Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~ is all for me, and I like the manga alot.

Fate/Stay Night is going to come in R1 and I can wait. Hell I have the Fate/Stay Night game to hold me over anyway.

I have a feeling I'll probably continue watching "Eternal Alice". However I'm uncertain on Magikano, I'm going to give it one or two more episodes, but I'm leaning towards dropping it. Oh yes I checked out some anime called Rakugo Tennyo Oyui. It looks like one of those series you watch for the fun of it. So I have some interest in it.

Possibly:

Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~
Strawberry Panic
Simoun

The reasons should be obvious.

There isn't much that really seems as though it would interest me outside of Fate/Stay Night and Ergo Proxy. Ray sounds as though it could be good though.
I'm waiting to see what new mecha/sci-fi shows will get made next year.

I'm interested in Sunrise's new show Zegapain (http://www.zegapain.net/). The character designs are nice, and Sunrise usually puts out quality stuff. Not sure on when it'll air though.

The site has opened(a little more) and has different designs and etc.

I wanted to push this thread up again, since most of the shows this winter have aired. Of course we still have Ergo Proxy, which is shapeing up to be extremly good. Any way, how did everyone do with their picks?
