I'm not quite sure what previous DVD releases this series has had in R2, but on May 26, a 7-disc boxset of the first season will be released.
Here's the Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000CSUZBO/249-1809397-4327509) listing for it.
No box cover yet though. I wonder what sort of video masters they'll be working from - especially since Funi is suppose to be making the video better for the second R1 release.

Was released in singles back in 1999-2000 and the quality was about as subpar as CPM's release.

Hopefully it'll be remastered from a new print and not just using the same old masters that were used the first time around, though it seems silly that they wouldn't remaster it. Hoping this leads to the older OVAs/Movies getting remastered and re-released soon as well.

It could also be a low-priced reissue. It has happened with a few titles out there like Ninja Scroll, for instance. Plus the original Slayers R2 release came out in CD jewel cases.
Rurouni Kenshin TV is another example. The reissue replaced the jewel cases with tall DVD cases while the video and sound remained untouched.
While I also wish for a completely remastered edition, it's best to consider these aspects as possible too to avoid ending up flat out disappointed. /images/graemlins/relief1.gif

That's definitely a possibility, but why even reissue the discs at all if it's not even going to be remastered. The price of this boxset is hardly any better than just buying all the singles that are still in print.
