View Full Version : Tokyo Mew Mew question

I don't know if anyone can help me with this, but...
Volumes 1, 3, 5 and 7 come with boxes to hold two of the discs. Were these limited to the first pressing, or do all copies include the box? I've got the first four volumes with the appropriate boxes, but none of the used sellers on Amazon.co.jp specifically mention that the box is included for volume 5, so I can't buy any more unless I'm sure I'll get it.
If I can't get a copy with the box online, I might have to wait until I get a chance to go into Akihabara to try and hunt for one, which won't be for a while... It'd be a shame, since I'm really enjoying this series. (I got the first volume on a whim because it was 1200 yen in a used DVD shop and I was curious to see how much of it I would understand. I was pleased to discover I can understand it fairly well /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif)
Volumes 9 and 10 are no problem; they seem to only be available as a 2-disc set with the box.

The boxes were lmited to the first pressing.

Cool, thanks for your help.
Hmm. What to do now ~_~

You can also try Yahoo Japan Auctions. You can also try Anime Jungle's watch list.
I just wanted the show and got all 10 DVDs for ~$250 or so.

That was a lucky buy!
To get TMM really cheap & stay legit, Yesasia sells the series on VCD in 2 box sets, about $60 for both. Only the opening is in Cantonese (sounds OK but singer has a deeper voice), there is a choice of Japanese for dialogue & the end song.
Video is fine for normal size TVs, obviously not DVD standard, but you get what you pay for. I hope TMM gets released on R3 eventually.

I'm already collecting the R2s, and to be honest they're pretty good value anyway (especially second hand). Plus I do care about the opening theme (I love it enough that I haven't skipped it once yet, and sing along every time =)
Still an interesting option though.

Its a very cute opening. Ending is /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif though. Especially with its animation.
BTW, who's your favourite Mew?
Watching TMM, I've got to the Blue Knight stories so far.

I'm not quite so keen on the ending... it's cute and all, but the high-pitched singing is a little grating.
I'm not sure who my favourite Mew Mew is, TBH. In general I'm quite pleased that they've all become endearing in their own way. I can think of all of them and think "Aww" about the way they generally act, and specific things they've done. It makes me wish there were 200 episodes of this so I could get as attached to it as I am with Sailor Moon.
If I had to pick, it would probably be Mint. Her afternoon tea thing just cracks me up, as does her obsession with Zakuro-oneesama. How about you?
I'm up to episode 21, so not too long after Blue Knight is introduced.

My favorite would be... Mint. Given her seiyuu is Kakazu Yumi (which also being the reason I bought the series), it had been decided long before I watched the series. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
The only thing disappointing in the series IMO is the sometimes lame animation. Like when the first meet Lettuce I believe it is on the school grounds. You have Mew Mew "fly" in, but in reality all they did is put the cel at the top of the screen and pull it to the bottom with very little by way of extra animation. Of course, I enjoyed the series so it's easy to get over, it's just "one of those things."

Good luck trying to track it down in Ahki.. I was there in October searching as my sis loves the damn series, got all but the last three volumes (Would have gotten 8 at a used shop, but they couldn't find the disc. -.-)

Yeah, the animation's pretty cheap, but at least it has wonderful character/costume designs to compensate /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif So it usually looks pretty anyway.

I don't really mind the animation, it's easy to get over, especially when you see what you get for the price you're paying. 6 episodes for 4800 Yen (going by the new price)? They weren't ripping customers a new one with this release, for a change. Though I have a feeling that's more because parents would likely be buying for their little children as opposed to marketing towards grown Otaku. /images/graemlins/wink.gif Nothing is worse than pissing off parents and making it so they won't give in to buy for the kids! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Started off as Mint, but I've grown fond of Lettuce. About equal.
Ichigo is special /images/graemlins/happy.gif
I'm an Ami-worshipper of the BSSM senshi, but like Usagi as well - grew on me as S & Stars are her best series. Diana is the cutest cat, though Artemis is only a tail's length behind (next male cat I get will be named after him) /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
TMM's chimera creatures are better than the Sailor Moon ones.

Update! I finally got a chance to go to Akihabara today, and I managed to find volumes 5 and 7 with the boxes in second hand DVD stores. So, yay! Time to watch some Tokyo Mew Mew /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif <-- never has that emoticon been more appropriate
