View Full Version : Does Urban Vision have any plans to make more D movies?

Ever since reading the first novel last week, watching that god awful movie from the 80s (man, I never realized how badly it sucked until now), starting Raiser of Gales, and watching Bloodlust again, I want some more movies, especially a remake of the first story done correctly. Does anyone know if Urban Vision has any plans on making more D movies? After all, I'm sure Madhouse still has the D character models and stuff (whatever they use) for D's design, so why not?

A little OT, but is the old man in Bloodlust that sells D the horse and says he was one of the kids stolen by vampires talking about the plot of Raiser of Gales?

Urban Vision is just the licensor. Madhouse makes the movies...Madhouse is the actual animation studio...

Yes, but I thought Bloodlust was co-produced by Urban Vision.

No. All the kids that were kidnapped in Raiser of Gales died... Did you miss that?

Madhouse owns Urban Vision from what I remember or is it just that they have a close relationship? I don't remember.

Oops, sorry then. Didn't mean to spoil the ending. Added tags to the original post.

I agree they should do more, but, maybe they should do a long TV series like Blood+ instead.

I always thought it was an interesting enough story to have at least 13ep series if not longer. I doubt it would happen but I would definatly be interested in it if it happened.

As cool as it sounds, I hope not. They would be bound to TV guidelines if they did, and that is not something that should be done for D.

Urban Vision has stated that while there are no definate plans at the moment, there's a good chance we'll be seeing more of D in the future. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

It was, but they were sort of uncredited. The only credit to them was the Executive Producer Mataichiro Yamamoto...

Yes, TV restrictions on sex and violence shouldn't be a problem for a D TV series, given what's gotten out recently. One should be more worried about animation budget and time constraints, as well as pacing issues. Ninja Scroll and Blood+ are good examples of lavish and stylish movies that lost a lot of their original atmosphere and charm when translating to TV series.

That would be my concern too. Basically, I love anime for the quality of the animation in some of the shows... As Bloodlust was far superior to the original D in terms of animation, I would hate to see a newer incarnation force the franchise to loose some of its 'class' if you know what I mean. A situtation which I'd wager is more likely to occur if the show was to be made into a series, rather than another movie...

I'm not too excited by the concept of another 'clearly-not-in-the-same-league-as-the-film' type show.

As far as animation quality when going from movie to series is concerned : contrast GITS:SAC and the Ninja Scroll series. Original GITS = classic. Series = awesome. Original Ninja Scroll = classic. Series = not so awesome. The same can be said for Blood+ IMHO - as well as Mezzo:DSA for that matter...

A series of D would have to be of a similar level of coolness (animation/story/characters) to the movie - or I'm sure some fans will be rubbed the wrong way.

More has to due with budget rather than TV guidelines. I just don't think we could get as beautiful animation as in the Bloodlust movie as you could on a TV show budget.

Two anime series, two live action movies and the recent New Fist of the North Star anime series. And there will be 5 more movies all in anime form.

But back on topic. More D would be greatly appreciated by me. Whether it be a movie, OAV or TV series I'd be equally happy. Of course I'd want it to be quality stuff, that should go without saying. But I really do think it would be, so it's not something I'm worried about.
