Didn't quite know if this belonged here or in the forum for ebay auctions. My apologies if it belongs there.
The other thread discussing cels prompted this question...
While perusing eBay I often see cels once in a while that I'd like to have, but I often wonder whether or not they're legitimate cels. How can you tell you're getting the real thing? Do you receive a COA or something that says it's legit?
Just curious.

Just as a note, generally all Cel discussion goes in the Cel thread.

Nope. Very few cels come with any certificates. A handful of AIC cels from series such as Tenchi, El Hazard, PS do have the AIC stamp on them but not all them by any stretch.
Generally there are few fakes.
I mean its usually more trouble than its worth to paint up a cel by hand which will fetch $30-40. Fakes are normally the domain of high demand series - in the past it was AMG (OVA), Evangelion - where a cel could fetch hundreds or thousands of dollars.
How to tell if a cel is real or fake?
Depends on how good the fake is. Fancels usually don't match the original anime colours that closely, don't usually have the production holes or use different acetate and black lining.
