Yeah that's cool, the whole anime form thing.

I'd love to see what I'd look like in anime form. Mostly because I think I wouldn't look like the typical anime character.

And to add to the thread,

Left Shelf (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v728/CountMonteCarlo/100_1275.jpg)

It's been a while since I have posted anything to these threads, so I thought I would pop in with an quick up-date.

This time I thought it would be cool (?) to do a quick video. Please excuse the 'handi-cam' work as this was done in on take. And yes, Rena is back up now. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Here's the video. It's about 50 mb, so be gentle. (http://www.colonyworks.com/DVD_tour.avi)

And for those who may be curious to see past still pics, here are a couple of links to my log pages:

DVD pics, a few months old; newer ones at the bottom. (http://www.colonyworks.com/DVD_history.htm)

Other stuff pics, mainly R2 DVD and figures, etc. (http://www.colonyworks.com/R2_log.htm)

Enjoy!!

Most impressive indeed.

Saw the pics from the previous thread and it's something I do aspire to in the years to come, my own little library of sorts. Got a room to use for it, but as is it's just storage for alot of old toys and collectibles. So much is stored away in buckets.

Anyways, keep the collections coming!

A lot of Pokemon DVDs! I think except the last 3 (from my collection), all the other Pokemon DVDs are out of print. So they were expensive and it was quite a challenge to find them. I'm still missing a few volumes in the middle. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

Please be aware that storing your DVDs on their sides like that is not a good thing to do. It is better to store them vertically. The way you have them has the possibility of causing layer seperation.

Getting them out wasn't the hard part, it was getting them back in when I was done /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif. So it looks like I'll be investing in some new shelves to get everything to fit. If anyone has any shelving suggestions a PM would be appreciated!

I used some parts from a spare trading figure stand to add a clamp to one of her legs (http://img293.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img04108lo.jpg) to stop the forward lean before it developed too much - I said I modified it badly as I went a bit OTT with the glue hence the white marks on the base I should really get around to painting over, but since the support is immediately behind the leg you can't really see it. The whole problem with the figure is how weak the joints are between her leg and her boots, so other than adding additional support like myself, or drilling through the legs and inserting wire through there, there isn't really much you can do about it. Yours looks pretty far gone though, I'd be tempted just to box it up myself.

OK, so the custom shelf I asked the guy that lives next door to me to build last month, brought it over about an hour ago. Didn't waste any time filling it up. Took so long since he had to do some work on his son's house before he had time to build it.

Most of the DVDs are in 1 bed room, all the manga is in another bedroom. I only have 1 DVD case with the newer stuff I am currently watching in my media room (dvd case 4). I used to have a lot of it in my media room but I moved it all in an attempt to unclutter that room.

I'm thinking of converting a bed room into a storage type room so I can keep it all in one place.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the closet shelf. Also when I first saw that pic load up I first thought you had manga stacked to the ceiling from the floor! /images/graemlins/knowital.gif

Also I only envy not having full height walls. I noticed you had some of the same shelving I have, except I had to hack about 6" off the height of mine. /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

Oh and all of the "special" DVDs made me laugh since they were kept hidden so to speak behind a cabinet door. Instantly I thought of the closed cabinet in Genshiken.

A most impressive collection indeed.

Wow, some very impressive collections!

Being still fairly new to anime, I had never really caught the bug of getting the little action figures. But suddenly I understand it now that I see them all displayed on everyone's anime shelves.

Very cool.

Here (http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/6435/feb2006dvdsb8cg.jpg) are my shelves. I took the picture at ISO100 speed, 1 second shutter with flash off. Seems that this was the best way to take a picture w/o the glare of the flash reflecting off some of the DVDs and boxes.

I don't have the Neon Genesis Evangelion Plantinum Edition thinpak yet, and I am wondering if DVDPacific will ever get it back in stock. Perhaps ADV is printing enough copies to avoid what happened when they first released it. That space where Tenjho Tenge vol. 1 is where the box goes, but I had to return it because the top of it was crushed. The space next to Fumoffu is where the thinpak collection is going once I get it in the mail. Other spaces are there just because they'll eventually get filled.

Also, here (http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/5537/figures0031ap.jpg) are my figures and other LE items

my collection is nothing great compared to the ones I've seen posted here, but here goes anyway. I need better shelves, but I'm not going to bother searching for one until I move into my new place. This collection is only a year and a half old, that's my excuse, haha. Time to order more!!

sorry for the bad angle and the glare. I wanted to update the photo, but my digital camera disappeared. Maybe on Saturday I'll borrow my friend's cam.

Not anime, but Star Wars fans might be interested... this is my film frame collection. $25 each when I bought them 10 years ago... though I think now it was a scam, oh well, they make for good presentation:

Newest Shelf (http://img55.imageshack.us/my.php?image=10020206by.jpg)

I plan to get 3 more of the new shelf I picked up. With the way they are made I can custom build'em so I can have two taller shelves and two shorter shelves if I had 3 more.

Oh and I have close ups of any of the figures if anyone is interested.

For those who have thin-packed or used double m-lock dvd cases, do you have pictures to share? I can't decide for the life of me if I should double it up or thinkpak /images/graemlins/sad.gif

I don't mind cutting the covers to fit thinpak cases but the thought of the spine looking all messed up, blows /images/graemlins/sad.gif

Double dvd cases are good, but I have to deal with odd numbering, sigh

It would help if I can see some pictures before hand, especially for those who thinpaked.

Thanks alot.

How many shows actually have spines with volume numbers?

The easy and best solution: Use double-pack CLEAR cases. Just use the "ordered" covers. For example, if you were double-packing the 12 Kaleido Star discs, the outside covers would be the first 6 DVDs and the last six DVD covers would be on the inside (so you can see them when you open the case).

I'm not quite satisfied with collection yet because it doesn't reflect my taste in anime well enough. Trigun and Cowboy Bebop SHOULD be in there and so should Samurai Champloo, Paranoia Agent, and a whole bunch of Miyazaki movies >_<. Time to start spening wads of cash.

Me too. I rarely pay full price for anything, and I usually find stuff on sale, clearance, or used on ebay. Boxsets are a godsend too. It really has to do with working in your own budget and getting the most for your money while enjoying yourself in the process.

I know there are those who are opposed to purchasing boxsets when they could be buying the individual dvds, but most of us just can't afford to do that. I may lose out on the extras at times, but after all the most important part of the show are the episodes. Extras are nice, but not a necessity, and cost usually outweighs forking out money for the original dvds.

As for me right now, I am personally trying to cut back on spending even further now except for finishing a few series' (Boys Be, Bebop, AMG TV, Utena, Maison Ikkoku) I still spend too much. *cries*

*cries*

[/ QUOTE ]

I imagine it must be rough with school, books, and all the other costs. I'm just happy I don't have to pay any of that despite the fact that I am in College I have no real expenses outside of gas.

New update in my sig ^_^.

Berserk arrived, Kino arrived, and Totoro arrived! How convenient, as they all arrived on final exams day /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif.

Berserk is easily the best set I own, and Kino's Journey looks very interesting. My Neighbor Totoro has held my interest for a very long time, and having gotten it for free, I'm very glad I now own it so I can watch it whenever I want.

I know what you mean about the homework. I have to do a 40 hour project for one of my classes and I have only one more week to work on it. I also have to finish my portfolio, finally get all of my geometry done, and finish my writing homework for the week >_<. But I'm fitting the anime into a time slot from 11:00 to 12:00 PM these days. I don't allow myself to work beyond that time usually.

Also, the theme for my collection is excellence /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif.

I pick up DVD's only if they get great ratings.

In a way. One is the R1 version and the other three are the R2 verions (there were two R2 boxes, I have two of the first box and one of the second box). Using this combination I was able to have one of each character showing. Kind of extrem I know, but it looks cool. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

I'm 13, and I must say I personally have come a long way with my collection!
A lot of the boxes you see are incompete (only Kaleido and His and Hers is full:P) so it's not that great. And yes, I DO have Desperate Housewives...I'm very aware.

OK, not only has it been forever since I've posted any pictures, but I just recently made my own shelves (they're not much to look at, but they get the job done.) So I figure it's time for some new pics of my modest (well compared to most people here) collection:

DVD and misc figures (http://img240.imageshack.us/img240/3141/room0039vl.jpg)

The main figure shelves (http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3622/room0042qe.jpg)

Evangelion, Bome and Figumate (read as: overflow) (http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/5299/room0065fm.jpg)

Manga and more figures (http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/9712/room0076my.jpg) (I tried to put figures with the manga, but I had too many; that bottom row alone is nothing but Mai-Hime/Otome.)

Thanks. Sadly, it's my only option for my anime DVDs. I don't have a lot of floor space in this room, so additional standing bookshelves are out. And as it stands, for the future I can only install one more shelf below because there's a futon/couch right under the DVDs.

I've been eyeing this nice shelf set up like you have in your pictures(big thing with doors), but I've always been worried about heat, moisture, or the DVD's and boxes inside being messed up from one thing or another.

Well I keep all my stuff inside so heat is not a problem (keep the AC cranked in the mid 70s all year long). I have "damprid" in almost every room so it is pretty dry.

I am looking into it though because I am thinking about moving my non anime DVD collection into my garage once I clean it out.

I got them from bestbuy.com, kinda expensive (about $230 each) but other places were selling them for close to $300 each. Just make sure you get slow shipping, ground was like $100, the next cheapest shipping was nearly $1000.

How did you do the hanging shelving if I might ask? It is definitely easy enough to do myself, but am having trouble locating brackets that look nice like those. Any advice would be of great help. Thanks.

Each of those shelves just come as a set from Ikea. They cost next to nothing. I can't remember the name, if they have one.

Oh okay, thanks. I'll go down there and check it out. Do they seem to hold up to the weight okay? Do you have them all secured in studs or just into the drywall? Thanks for the info.

naiera
06-28-2006, 05:21 PM
They're all in studs of course. I don't think the wall would like it any other way. They hold op the weight just fine. DVDs aren't the heaviest things in the world /images/graemlins/wink.gif I've also used just one set of screws in most of the shelves. More weren't needed.

Anime (http://www.filespace.org/RabidCoqui/Wall_of_DVDs_1.JPG) ~800Kb
Manga (http://www.filespace.org/RabidCoqui/Manga_1.JPG) ~800Kb

Smaller pics:

Anime (http://www.filespace.org/RabidCoqui/Wall_of_DVDs_2.JPG)
Anime - left (http://www.filespace.org/RabidCoqui/Wall_of_DVDs_left.JPG)
Anime - right (http://www.filespace.org/RabidCoqui/Wall_of_DVDs_right.JPG)
Manga (http://www.filespace.org/RabidCoqui/Manga_2.JPG)

I'm happy with the shelves, but having so many boxes, bricks, etc can cause a lot of empty space...

oh, no worries, ask away. that actually isn't a poster, like the others on the wall, those are shijitaki (pencilboards) of a slightly different size than the ones you get in DVD's. i picked em up for something silly like $2 each when Abel and Eric were running Anime10, they make great decorations for your wall, high quality images. they look fantastic up close

Wow, seems its been 6 months since the last time I posted pics, so I guess its time for another shot of the progression of my collection. I outgrew my smaller set of shelves, but thankfully managed to find a second set of larger shelves. It has plenty of extra space, so hopefully they'll last me for quite a while.

after over 8 yrs of collecting anime, i finally bit the bullet and invested in a HDTV set-up for anime viewing. i've yet to pick up a good surround sound system but, that will come when i am less broke /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

new set-up is the Samsung 4092D LCD HDTV and a Oppo 371 upconverting DVD player. awesome combo, especially for anime! i'm not sure if it is just me but, the Oppo makes anime look amazing!!!

I've posted this in another thread (or 2), but it's probably more appropriate here. Here're some updated pictures (http://home.comcast.net/~marsh00/october.html) of my room, along with a few other things. I left out my tv and viewing setup as I still have a round faced 26" tv, which sucks (can't even see game scores have the time cause they get cut off at the top of the screen). Hopefully sometime soon I'll be upgrading it to one of those HD widescreen sets that look so sexy.

So after browsing through 4chan's /hr/ I came across this lovely program that lets you take highres images and print them out in sections so that you can construct a nice poster. After playing around with it, I was able to make 2 very nice posters (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/marsh-/Random%20Pics/redjustice001.jpg) of 2 of my favorite anime girls. The program in question is called The Big Picture (http://www.tml.tkk.fi/~tmakipat/thebigpicture/thebigpicture.html). There's probably better ones out there with more options and such, but I like this one because it's simple and it overlaps the images which makes it easier to put the picture together.

Yeah, I'm a fan. I'd probably have more figures of her, but I'm not really into trading figures. Also, if my scanner was working, I probably would've attempted to make a nice poster of her.

Nice collectgion Chacranajxy! I especially liked the Armitage lunchbox and the Japanese games. WTH is that Melty Blood, A shmup? Those boxes look so cool they make me want to go get a PS2. I think you have too many things in your backlog though. Windwaker! You know you want to play it

Hey Ollin, fabulous collection.

In the R2 section, do you mind my asking: what is the box (which you have, to use an old AoD phrase, "Fabio style" on the second column from the right, below the AIR movie special edition triplets, and above the Peorth :virgin: goodness)? I don't recognize the characters or the series, and the title is just a little too small to make out clearly.

Ah, Fabio. I miss that guy's collection pics since his collection was frickin' nuts and it was well organized. Too bad he decided getting married took priority over posting on AoD. What a noob. :D

Looking at it more closely, I think you're right. The logo (though it's all blurry at this size) looks about right. I guess what threw me is that back when I posted, I hadn't yet seen any of the show beyond episode 1, where we have short-haired Haruka and Mistuki with the neverending ponytail. Now, I've watched the first disk, so I can see what's what.

Gosh, my room looks like crap in comparison to everyone's. Living in cramped ol' Hawaii isn't as fabulous as it seems folks! (Well there are nice places here, but those are the newer homes that cost way more money then I'd ever amass in my life.)

Anywho, very nice collections everyone. My shelves are insanely overloaded right now. I'd take a picture, but my collections are scattered everywhere in the house. I even had to clear up space in our computer room just to make room for manga. Ugh. If I ever take over my sister's room one of these years, I'll take a picture. :P

nice collection, animeforever. what's the bottom right second to last wooden box? i kept seeing it from others' pictures as well. i rarely buy boxes so i wouldn't know but it looks nice. you have a lot of unfinished collections though. personally i prefer thinpaks, space saving goodness.

i wish i had a digital camera. but man i don't even have a shelf to store my anime. i store them in a drawer, inside a trunk, and on top of some weird type of 3 layered clothes baskets that i don't even know how to call them. as long as i can put something in there, i will. so my collection wouldn't be as pretty or organized obviously, but still i have tons of anime inside my room.

Time for a new way of storing my collection. As much as I like the racks of Boltz their not the best option for a large collection. Might pay a visit to Ikea soon.

The DVD shelves go around the whole room, as they're higher than the doors, but the book shelves only really cover a bit less than half of the room, and the game shelves are all on two small walls (the room is not rectangular, as it used to be two different rooms). It really does save space this way, especially when it comes to boxes (which, when trying to alphabetise the disks on a book shelf, caused alot of problems).

I tend to get ideas on things to add from either here or other places on the net. The chrome and black racks for my figures I got after seeing how Taste (http://www10.ocn.ne.jp/~mojya/) has his ridiculously insane amount of figures displayed (click the Room link at the top).
