View Full Version : Yomigaeru Sora - Rescue Wings
I figured I would make a post about this show since I didn't see or find one(if there is one direct me to it please). This and Ergo Proxy seem to be the most promising shows this season for me. The offical site is here (http://www.rescue-w.jp/). Taking a look at the short promo clip, the animation looks nice(but it's a promo). It seems that Bandai Visual is doing the animation with funding from J.C. Staff.
I'm hoping this turns out to be another Planetes or a similar series. It seems to air today/tommarow, so I'm looking forward to episode 1.
Well it looks like episode 1 has aired. Since I can't read Japanese, I'm at a loss for the finer points of the series. Maybe Wrex will start watching the show and help me out heh. Anywho, going by the pics on 2ch, it looks like a great show.
So instead of trying and failing with a summary, I figured I would post some pictures from the episode:

Ah, sorry bout over looking it Rogue. I found myself likeing this show. It seems that most of the shows this season(so far) are comedy/fanservice romps. This looks like it could turn into a great show, and I like the research that they did for the show.
Hopefully others will watch it /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
Sorry for the back to back posts, but maybe someone can clear this up for me. I see that AniDB has J.C. Staff listed under the show, yet the shows site says Bandai Visual. I remember seeing something about J.C. Staff funding the show, while Bandai Visual did his thing.
So is J.C. Staff's role just funding, or are they animating to?

Bandai Visual are credited with "gensaku", or "original work", and "seisaku" or "production", with JC Staff credited for animation. So it's the other way round; I think Bandai Visual are funding it, and JC Staff are animating it.
Ah, thanks for the information. By the way, Happy Birthday Blu /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif.
Well it seems that episode 2 has aired(according to 2ch). I still have hope for the show, since most people said episode 1 was a so so effort. But I'm hopeing that it turns out to be a good show. Any who, looking at the pictures for episode 2, it seems like it focuses on one of his fellow crewmen rather then him.
I think the show will excel once they get into the stories where they're out on missions/incidents with the helicopters. Until then it's a bunch of army/air force guys talking to each other.

I just watched the first episode. I liked what I saw.
A very down-to-earth show. It's about time we got an anime that's set in a real world present day atmosphere/setting.
Although nothing really happens in the first episode, I thought it was a nice calm way to set up the show (as well as being realistic). Some might say it was boring though. I would guess the excitement factor will jump in Episode 2 (if the last scene in Ep.1 is any indication).

Yeh. I managed to get sit down and watch episode 1, and I can see why some find it boring. It's more of a subtle mood then anything. Episode 2 looked to show some back story and introduce new characters. I'm hoping for the best.
Well upon further investigation, it appears we did have helicopter scenes in episode 2. Although since the show is a very dialogue heavy show, I can't make anything out.
On another subject though, I seem to be the only one(or one of the only ones) dedicatedly watching this. So if my back to back posts violate any rule or are seen as spamming, please tell me.

I've watched it as well. I'm rather underwhelmed at this point, which is disappointing since this was one of two shows I wanted to watch this season (the second being ERGOPROXY). I was really excited about it since I'm a huge fan of the Tokkyu!! (http://www.shonenmagazine.com/works/tokkyu/index.html) manga, another rescue series.
The series seems to be character centric, since the office interaction and rescue so far has served as a backdrop to flesh out Uchida and whatevers going on personally with him. But so far, I'm just not attached to anything going on. I found Uchida likeable enough the first half of the first episode, but it started going downwards from there. I just get the feeling that he's going to lose it and go apeshit on everyone. So by the end of the second episode I've become afraid of the main character and don't really care about the rescue. That said, I'm going to probabaly at least finish up the end of this rescue story and see if anything manages to hook me in for later eps.

I'm interested in this show too but considering the amount of dialogs, I don't think my understanding of Japanese will make it worth watching the raws.
So any idea of what group is gonna fansub it?

The dread F word strikes again /images/graemlins/knowital.gif. Heh, yeh. It does seem to be a very dialouge centric show. Which isn't a problem of course, but like you Sheena, my Japanese isn't the best. I just glance at the 2ch thread for the pictures as it airs, since it gives me the "jist" of the episode.
Well episode 3 has aired. It looks like a "action" packed episode. It seems from the 2ch pics that the crew goes out to rescue a woman(?) on a ship and various things happen. It seems like the plot may have finally been kick started. It's hard for me to understand what is going on though, due to me not speaking Japanese, and it being a very dialouge heavy show.
But still I'm going to stick with it, even if I'm the only one watching /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I'm watching Rescue Wings too. I'll be watching Episode 3 tonight.
Episode 2 didn't have much action but it was still captivating. The series seems to be taking the slow thoughtful atmosphere route - reminds me of the atmosphere of Piano and To Heart. I suspect Episode 3 won't be all that exciting.
It looked like a good episode though. But me, not knowing Japanese, I couldn't tell ya what went on heh.
Well it looks like the show might be hitting its stride in episode 4. We have the apperance of a couple new female characters. Mainly the one that is on the main page though. It seems like Uchida knows Megumi, and they go back a long way. It appears that there is a flashback to when he was in school, and a girl with glasses and tied up hair.
I was really surprised how far they went in this episode. I mean plot developments that usually take the whole series are poping up in episode 4. I'm not sure if it's the same person though in the flashbacks. But we get a scene where <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Uchida seems to have had a "interesting" night with a friend from school. </span>
It almost looks like they're setting the scene for him to have a serious relationship with both women.
Here are some pics from the episode:

Just watched the first episode subbed and thought it was a nice if slow exposition of the main character and his situation. I liked how they made Uchida into a very human character. I'm intrigued enough to wait for the next few episodes for more of the cast and the plot.

I saw the 3rd episode. Just when the excitement factor goes up, the episode ends in a <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>majorly depressing way</span>. I sure hope <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>other missions don't end up like that.</span>
If this series is nothing but <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>angst and tragedy one after another</span> I'll drop it. For now, I'll stick with the series.
Yeh. I was on the fence after the first two episodes. But with the ammount of action that goes on in episode 4, I'm sticking with the series. It seems to be a dialouge heavy show, so the raws are hard to disect.

Your screencaps of Episode 4 seems to suggest "action" of different kind. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I was surprised at the level of character interaction myself. Like I mentioned in my little summary(hey, I try), stuff like that usually doesn't happen till you get more then half way in. I can ID one of the women as Megumi. Her and Uchida seem to be pretty close. I'm not sure who the other woman is, the one he "slept" with. They seem to be good friends from high school.
Hmm, I just had a crazy idea. Could the woman he has flashbacks of be Megumi? It wouldn't be to far off, seeing as they were in high school and now they're 23 and 22. Hmm, it's hard to tell just by pictures. But the faces do look similar, and she could be wearing contacts.

For me, it's the same woman.
I mean, her VA is still Noto Mamiko, that's the main thing.
Other than that: after the flashback, Megumi is holding the book that high school Megumi gave him and she's looking at it like it was something filled with memories (this is the book he was reading at the beginning of ep 1 btw), and he's calling the woman with glasses Megumi, plus she's wearing the same dress.
So yeah, contacts.

Ah cool, so this means that their relationship is pretty solid. If they knew each other through high school, slept together, and are pretty close, I like it. I don't think they're married though, probably dating.
So far we have decent drama and a nice personal relationship. I'm really starting to like this series /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
Hmm. Moonphase lists the show as being 12 episodes. I hope they can make a fulfilling show in 12 episodes.

Considering the pace so far, that's surprising. Hope they don't pull something like an Emma ending on this show as well. That'd be disappointing.
Yeh. It has felt kind of laid back so far. I think the story is starting to get underway, with Megumi stopping by and the two of them having a good date. As I see it, they could take the story two ways. Since we have eight episodes left, they can continue the "normal guy" stories and finish it up that way(maybe with him and Megumi getting married and etc), or they can put him in a risky mission as part as the SDF.
The main Rescue Wings site has a streaming preview clip of the next episode, with some shots and etc. Not sure when episode 5 airs, but it looks like it will take Uchida on another mission (http://www.rescue-w.jp/anime_chap.html#05).
Well, episode 5 has aired. Going by the pictures, it seems like Megumi makes another apperance in this episode. I'm not sure if she is at her job, or just going around town. Uchida is off on another rescue mission in the mountains. They end up climbing/exploring around the moutain it seems. The episode seemingly ends with a shot of Megumi coming home on the subway, getting out of the shower, checking her phone for messages, and smileing.
My summary isn't the best, so I'm still partially clueless heh. It looks like since the previous episode(4) that Megumi is getting face time, and will feature in the show. Well, she does seem to be his girlfriend/love interest. I don't think they live together, as she seemingly goes outside. I dunno why, but I really like Megumi. Hopefully the series can carry itself for 7 more episodes.
While I'm a big fan of the show, I think I'm going to wait till I can grasp the story better. There is a lot of dialouge and military lingo in the series. To bad I don't speak Japanese, heh.

From watching the dubbed Ep.3 and her attitude, it's pretty obvious they're closely involved somehow. She worries about him being in the area of the earthquake despite not having relatives in the region. And eventually she calls him desperatly asking to talk to him in person to make sure he's fine. At the very least, that spells strong friendship between them.

Yeh, episode 6 that aired does the same. It shows that they're dating or have a close relationship. I kind of like that you have a strong relationship between the two main character(friends/dating it seems from high school).
It's hard to get the feel of a episode by the pics though, especially for something like Rescue Wings.
Well, seems I can't keep away from this show heh. The thing that keeps me coming back is the interaction between Megumi and Uchida. In this episode we get Uchida on a mission, and Megumi anxiously laying on her bed looking longingly at her cell phone. Probably waiting for him to call to see if he is ok.
With only 12 or 13 episodes, I hope it ends strong now that we have hit the half way point.
Well, it seems the show has ended the way it started, silently. I lost touch with the show going into the later episodes, mostly due to not a lot of information being around other than the next episode previews on the offical site.
I'll hold my judgement until I see all the episodes(not sure on that, although it looks and sounds like something Bandai might license some day). But from what I did see, I liked the show a lot. I liked the interaction/relationship between Uchida and Megumi and the "normal guy has his job take over his life" aspect of the show.
