View Full Version : Scott McNeil to be on FullMetal Alchemist as Hohenheim Elric

According to EmperorBrandon, Mike McFarland recently stated that Scott McNeil will be in a episode of FMA voicing Ed and Al's father Hohenheim. It might seem to be a strange change of the roles people normally think of for Scott McNeil. But he is known for having excellent range so I'm sure he can pull off something like this indeed.

I know it may seem strange but so was the news of Johnny Yong Bosch and Carrie Savage in a episode and look what happened to that.

Just for the record, the news was actually from Mike McFarland at a post in the DubReview forum.

Wouldn't this be better as a spoiler as to which character he's going to play? I mean not everyone has watched up to this episode yet....../images/graemlins/depresse.gif.

I don't think it's much of a spoiler. It's obvious right from the beginning of the show that Hohenheim is going to appear in it.

Hmmm good point, the original poster doesn't acutally say what episode, I think I'm confusing the news here with what I read some where else /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif. My bad.

You guys all found this out by reading Mike's post at DB, but me, I heard it from the man himself at Anime Boston. Losers. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Anyway, you know what really confuses me about the FMA dub? Despite the fact that VAs from every major dubbing area in the US is traveling hundreds of miles to be in the series, Lord & Master Mr. Steven Jay Blum hasn't made an appearance.

Wait, there's always the movie. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Notice how the 4Kids VAs are staying away from this. That's right, you fucking anime butchers, keep away from the work of companies who RESPECT what they work on. Go back to ruining One Piece and painting out cleavage.

So all we need now is someone from Central Park Media and this would be the first anime to have had VAs from all the great studios. We can just exclude Blue Water since they suck anyways.

Michael Sinterinklaas (I can't spell his last name ^^;;; ) plays a character in FMA (just appeared on disc 6) and he works out of New York, so I think they do have the major areas covered now. O_O

You were very close. Just swap the "i" and "n", "Michael Sinterniklaas". /images/graemlins/happy.gif You could count Sean Schemmel as from NY as well, since he's been there for several years now.

Scott McNeil is based in Canada, so your question has already been answered. /images/graemlins/wink.gif If you're asking if there's more, then I don't know (haven't seen any others at this point) Hohenheim has <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>not shown up yet, as of ep. 41.</span>

I've always been impressed by Scott McNeil's range. From the youthful punk like Kouga (Inuyasha) to the hard-edged battle warrior (Piccolo in the Ocean DBZ dub, Wolverine in X-Men Evolution).

That does indeed sound cool.

I didn't forget. But his Duo voice is very similar to his Kouga.

I could mention that he also played the Principal in Ranma 1/2 as well.

But if we were to sit here and mention all of McNeil's roles, we'd be here for quite awhile.

Hmmm... Wouldn't it be cool if Scott had just enough time to record a small role on another FUNimation show? He does have magnificent range... Heck, if FUNi got Scott McNeil to voice roles in TWO shows, you might even say they <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'> made out like Bandits! </span>

It's doubly surprising that Hilary hasn't been called in for work on FMA when you consider the number of dogs that are recurring characters (ie. Black Hayate, Alexander, Den). /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Hm, speaking of that and Coastal/Phoenix, maybe they can coax Charles Dee Rice and Nicole Gibson to come up from Phoenix, AZ.

They'd make me buy the show twice (which is huge since I'm not buying it now) if they could swing that and dig up Peter Marinker from London or where ever he might be now. Then they'd have every current and former English dub location covered...well, except Toronto, but I don't know names there as well. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I forgot one other. Mellisa Hutchinson (Chise in Saikano) from Voice One in San Francisco. That should just about do it, short of one of the Japanese seiyuu reprising a small role, a la Mari Iijima.

Montreal (Mysterious Cities of Gold, Samurai Pizza Cats)
Atlanta (A Very Private Lesson)
Cardiff (Vampire Wars, Shadow Skill OVA)

Hong Kong (Gall Force: Eternal Story alternate dub)

I can think of more if an official US release isn't strictly necessary...

Presumably it's in London where Manga has their offices. One of the cast members, Stuart Milligan, also appeared in Manga's dub of Odin. The move to Cardiff in the later 90s presumably happend because Manga needed to cut costs with the UK anime market going down hill, and Wales has some very advantegous tax laws.

Also, I forgot one in my previous list:

Philippines (Great Dangaioh, Corrector Yui)

Actually Village has been around for quite a while. They dubbed the Dogtanian TV movie a while back along with a few other titles as well. Here's their list of titles (lhttp://www.village-productions.com/html/body_village-productions-series.html) from their website. Lots of interesting stuff like Captain Tsubasa, Tales from Fairyland, and the second season of Willy Fog. Almost all of the other titles say dubbing script so they're presumably ADR though it's difficult to tell whether they are anime titles or not.
