View Full Version : New BL OAV: Papa to Kiss in the Dark - Any info?
I saw this new BL OAV while browsing R2 DVDs the other day. It's called Papa to Kiss in the Dark and it's two volumes long at 30 mintues a piece. I've never heard of it before, and was wondering if anyone had any information about it.
I've looked around online, and there's barely any info out there. The best I could do was the Official Website (http://www.hakusensha.co.jp/ova/papa/). There's a special edition and a regular edition of each volume. From my crappy Japanese, I can figure out that the first volume (special edition) comes with a drama CD and a visual something (card, poster??) and the second volume comes with the visual something. I'm thinking it might be worth just going for the regular edition, since I won't get much out of the drama CDs.
So...anyone have these or know anything about them? I'd rather know something about them before spending over 10,000 yen on 60 minutes of anime content. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
To mods: wasn't sure if this should go in general anime, R2, or recommendations. Feel free to move. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Apparently it's based on a novel series by Nanbara Ken, and ius somewhat incestuous. That's about as much info as I can find.

Incestuous? What, does the boy get it on with his father? /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif

It can't be that, though. According to the website linked above, Mira, the uke character, is in first year high school (so probably 16). The seme character, Kyousuke, is 29 (only 13 years older). So they can't be actual father and son. But the very brief "bio" does say "Mira no papa." So...suger daddy? Some really odd adopted thing? ??? No clue, really.

According to some net searching, Kyousuke is his father-in-law, but that sounds just odd. Maybe he is his stepfather Either way it looks interesting... /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Yep, according to the summary I read (posted below), it is his father-in-law.
"Munakata Mira is a freshman boy who goes to Hakuoh High School. He is in love with Munakata Kyosuke. In fact, Kyosuke is Mira's father-in-law and a popular sexy actor.
However, Kyosuke spends troublesome days with Utsunomiya Takayuki who's trying to steel Mira from Kyosuke, and Hino Kazuki who loves Mira secretly and protects him from Takayuki. In addition, Mira is worried by love affairs of Utsunomiya Mitsuki, who is a popular actress, Mira's mother, Kyotsuke's elder sister, and Takayuki's mother-in-law. "
Gah, it makes so sense...

These terms have got to be translated wrong. Mira can't have a father-in-law unless he's married. Marriage is only legal for men in Japan when they reach 18. Mira is 16. Father-in-law makes no sense.

Wait, wait. So this chick is Mira's mother and Kyousuke's sister? So...wouldn't that make Kyousuke Mira's UNCLE??
Confused...

So, I posted this before I went to bed and it made lots of sense then, but now reading what you wrote... I'm confused too.
But maybe Kyousuke was his uncle first, than became father-in-law ?
...>_<
Wait, wouldn't he (Kyousuke) have had to have married his sister for Mira to be his son-in-law? Wait, father-in-law? Maybe they meant stepfather? Because than Mira would have to be married to some girl and dig her father.
Ok, my head's ready to explode. ^^;
(EDIT:
Wait, I think it comes back to Utsunomiya Takayuki. I think the description has it mixed up in this line:
"Mira's mother, Kyotsuke's elder sister, and Takayuki's mother-in-law."
I think she's really either Takayuki's mother or elder sister (because of the same last name) and maybe it is Mira's "mother-in-law" (whatever the hell that is supposed to mean, so step-mother?)

I just finished reading the first two novels in the series, so maybe I can clear things up. The (rather convoluted) relationships are pretty much the plot for the OAV, so, spoilered: The story starts with Mira thinking that Kyousuke is his actual father (even though they have a sexual relationship). Through a convenient accident, he realizes that Kyousuke adopted him (all this time he thought it was a lie that Kyousuke was 29). To make Mira's problem worse, he finds out that his best friend, Kazuki, is in love with him.
Meanwhile, the tabloids are hyping up Kyousuke's relationship with his current costar, Utsunomiya Mizuki (who is the mother of Takayuki, the student council president at Mira's school)--they even go so far as to suggest that the two stars might get married, sending poor Mira into a jealous fit.
As it turns out, Mizuki is Mira's real mother and Kyousuke's sister--after giving birth, she gave Mira to the 14-year-old Kyousuke and ran off to America. Takayuki is her late husband's child from a previous marriage (and so not related to any of the main characters by blood).
In other words, even though Kyousuke and Mira aren't actually father and son, their relationship is still incestuous.
As far as the OAV goes, I've only seen the first episode so far (will probably pick up the second one next time I'm at Animate), but I like it better than the novel version. It focuses on the more cute and silly bits, while the novel is just smut, smut, smut.
