How's the quality on this one? Worth getting or should I wait forever for Urban Vision to get off their lazy asses to release it?

It's from Kiseki so it's most likely crap.
To expand on Naiera's most informative of comments, you can only get the cocpit on DVD in the UK as part of this double feature (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=srmr&page=title&r=R2&title=90652) it's subtitles but it will most likly be hardsubbed as Kiseki's DVD's (released many moons ago) are direct ports from their VHS versions.
So it depends on which is the lesser of two evils a crap (subjective opinion) version or no version at all waiting on urban visons who may or may not do something with it.

I actually have that double feature thing, I've just never bothered watching it. Only paid £3 for it anyway.
Gunbuster was crap, so I was guessing this was as well. Wow, what a crap catalogue of releases to have, with all DVD's being directly ported from VHS /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif

I also own the double feature 'Cockpit' which comes on a dvd with 'Digital Devil'.
I picked up my dvd for £2 off Ebay. Although it's been mastered from VHS and the subtitles have a black bar behind them but i was more than happy since i had the chance to watch it.
The picture quality although VHS is still very good and the subtitle translations are excellent. Cockpit is a classic well worth seeing. It's ashame it hasn't been given a proper release.
Also disagree with the opinion on Gunbuster. It's my favourite Anime film of all time. Kiseski in my opinion have an awesome catagolue tainted by less than medicore dvd releases. Also worth looking out for on dvd by Kiseski is Sol Bianca. I believe they also released 'Plastic Little' and 'Black Magic M-66'.
Most of the dvds by Kiseski can be got for a few quid off Ebay so it's worth keeping an eye out for them.

I didn't say anything about Gunbuster as a show. I think it's a classic, but it's a fact that the DVD sucks by pretty much all standards.
By default, all DVD's made from VHS masters are more or less going to be crap. Luckily you don't have to pay £15 per disc as from Play.com.

Kiseki's Gunbuster has some fan service cut, not in dialogue & run time, but the camera shot is on a part of the scene only. This was to get a lower BBFC rating.

Thought Kiseki's range wasn't too bad. It's just that it was a small company that didn't ride off the back of American releases. Guess it couldn't really stretch its money to do proper DVDs as they were on their way out when they released these ones anyway. (Western Connection releases on VHS were much the same. Awful quality, but you still can't get some of their titles on DVD!)
I'd rather have a crap-quality DVD than no DVD at all.

They did release ReiRei which is one of the very few decent hentai titles out in the UK. Shame they paired it with The Gigolo...
