I watched my CotB VHS (also Kiseki) after this, the first time since seeing DYRL in Japanese. It may be nostalgia, since Bionoids was my first Macross ever (Mac II was 2nd - also Kiseki), but I still find the dub OK. Misa's VA sounds less bitchy & overall more tragic than her Robotech & new McDub version. The stranded-on-Earth part is my favourite act still - especially where she pretends to play house, and eating radioactive fish..
"Angel Paint", Minmay's concert/ending song, is still its uncut length on my VHS.

Going to DYRL, who believes Hikaru & Misa did the deed while on Earth. It makes a lot of sense to how Hikaru shifted his affection for Minmay as easily as he did, and also Minmay's bitter question to Hikaru about what went on with "that woman" about when he was stranded on Earth.

depends on how much time had past while they were on earth after she decided to eat again and how much time had past once they found the lost city...

but i always assumed they had did it while on earth.

I don't think there's much ambiguity on that. When they start smooching around sunset, the scene fades out and the next scene it's night and she's zipping up her outfit, it's difficult to believe they spent the intervening time playing cards or something.

I'd completely blotted out the memory of watching the Kiseki vhs-version, but I can attempt to clear up some stuff regarding DYRL.

Hikaru had some antidote for the fish before offering to Misa. It was just damn ugly so Misa initially rejected it.

They did. There was never any doubt on that. The movie is not a hokey Gundam-romance.

It was NOT that easy for Hikaru to shift from Minmay to Misa. It was actually complicated since he got his groove on with another girl while on Earth and then his actual girlfriend showed up alive later. Stuck between a rock and hard place, so to speak.

Hikaru blames himself for everything that transpired (i.e. for believing Minmay was already killed by the Zentrans like Roy did ). This was explained by Hikaru at least a couple of times in the pre-climax moments/scenes of the movie.

Misa was just his default rebound-girl coz, well, they both thought they're the only ones on earth and a rescue was impossible coz they don't know if the Macross received their comm-attempt from the Protoculture-city.

Can't recall properly, but I think their stay on earth was either a month or three months.

Ah yes... the old-school dub of DYRL (non-Bionoids) that could be found at Blockbusters and comic shops. Used to have a couple friends who owned the LD I think. Times like this I wish i had a working player to watch LDs on come to think of it.

Thing I loved about the movie was the switch they did on Max and Mirya's fate. They make a brief appearance and then... kinda vanish into the background by the end.

The novelization version of DYRL confirms it. In fact IIRC, they did it twice in the novel.

tuffy above says it best anyways. They spent (IIRC) a whole month? alone together on Earth.

K_Shinjo, I remember reading on a Macross chronology website that Misa & Hikaru had a daughter. Was she conceived on Earth or Mega-Road One? I think it was a novel or manga part of the epic, but can't be sure. Unless mention is made in Macross 7 (which I really wish would get licensed too, but know it won't)

Maybe they just finished playing strip poker? /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif . I also didn't think there was any ambiguity on the matter.

Getting dressed after bathing &/or from out of bed (after sleep!) are equally good reasons.

I really didn't think at the time Hikaru cared for Misa that much - especially as she is too sharp at him in the DYRL original. Perhaps her suffering & being cared for mellowed her though. /images/graemlins/cool.gif
