And I'm not sure if I'm going to like the new ending...death is great. The metaphor of them coming in to a rehersal for there part in the story works wonderfully. Can't help thinking that there is some sort of symbolism in the different instruments they play. (perhaps as you go up in tone from bass to viola you become less melancoly?) Rebirth I'm mixed about the new actions scenes are wonderful though I'm not sure if Aska really understands the AT field or just goes crazy (at least her explanation doesn't seem to fit with the 17th angels description, I mean her AT field should be her or the angels soul right?) but seeing her FINALLY get to wreck some havoc is nice.

They seem to change some things though, wasn't it shinj's dad in the original series that was for the instrumentality project and seele against? That seems to be reversed here..

Also anyone know where I can get a translated copy of the dead sea scrolls..I'm sure Eva takes MASSIVE liscence but I'm interested now.

You do know that the Rebirth part of D&R is the first 20-30 mins of End of Evangelion, right?

I suspect it's more than "license." I doubt anything in the real Dead Sea scrolls has a blessed thing to do with Eva. They just used the name for its dusty mysterioso value.

After watching D&R... I felt like I've been robbed of my time. I wish I could have the time I spent watching this worthless DVD back.

Not to spoil too much, but both Gendo and SEELE had their own plans for what would happen during Instrumentality, and each attempted to position their pawns in order to make it go their way. But the key to everything was being able to control Evangelion Unit 01, which is why Gendo continually chose to sacrifice the other units and pilots throughout the series before sending Unit 01 into danger.
