My two negatives were from one guy who withdrew the auction I won after a week because I hadn't paid within the week (never mentioned in the auction). The other was because a guy claimed he was going to pay via a money order, never paid, I gave him a negative, and then he gives me one (who is no longer a registered user).

My account lists member since Sep-97, but back in the days you had to re-register in order to change the e-mail address (eBay used to use e-mail addresses as IDs), my first feedback dates Dec-13-96.

Feedback should be a lot higher, but not everyone who won an auction from me left a feedback. Should be around 540 for all positive feedback left.

When selling, I usually send an email once the item has shipped:

Thank you for purchasing XXX! The item was shipped today via XXX and should arrive shortly! When you receive the item, and you're happy with the transaction, I'd appreciate your positive feedback! Thanks again for your business!

This gives them useful info and doesn't come off as begging. Plus, you know they'll go for negative feedback. People are more apt to complain than praise.

I only have 2 negative feedbacks. One of them was because a few years ago I bid on a copy of Final Fantasy VII. The seller was passing it off as one of the originals when it was really one of those lame "Greatest (s)Hits". I wasn't obligated to buy it because she told me after the auction so she left retalitory feedback. Skank.

The other was an auction where I bought a supposedly "Mint 1st edition" of "Jurassic Park". It ended up being a book club reprint with a sun bleached spine and banged corners. I left negative feedback and the bastard, in turn left me some retalitory feedback. I hate that! Sellers who hold off on leaving you positive feedback until you leave it for them first so they have a chance to retaliate if need be.

All positives but two. Got two neutrals thanks to a broken credit card machine at the local post office that kept me from shipping on time.
No negatives yet, knock on wood.

To the person who bought FFVII: things like this are the reason why I bought a digital camera. Stock photos lead to bullshit, bullshit leads to negative feedback, negative feedback leads to having a bad reputation.

And surprisingly, only one package has ever turned up missing since I started on the Bay. What does the post office do with all the lost/undeliverable mail anyway?

On the feedback issue...
I recently had a buyer not leave me feedback, after I had left her feedback. I even contacted her twice asking if she recieved the item and to leave feedback.. she emailed me back that she got the item and it was great, but she still didn't leave me feedback. I've charted it up to I'm not getting it. But that makes me so miffed. If I leave you feedback you should do the same!

Well as a seller i've seen stupid things. Once a customer asked if I received a payment via neutral feedback.

That's why most sellers now will wait to see what the buyer will do. I will always leave feedback as soon as the buyer is satisfied.

I know it optional.. but Ebay revolves around feedback! I was more miffed because I left her(assuming it was a she) feedback, but in return didn't recieve any. I didn't harass her about it.. the first email I sent she didn't reply to, and I was more interested in if she actually recieved the item, so I sent her a second email. This all happen way back in the beginning of December and after she replied about getting the item I didn't email her again because I got confirmation that it was recieved and she was happy with it. Usually I check my feedback as a way of confirming that the item was recieved(and that they were happy with everything)... but without it or an email all I have is good faith that it arrived. I surely don't want negitive feedback! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I look at it like a tip... tipping is optional, but it's good manners to do so. Plus your helping someone out.

Yup there was as I noted when I started this thread. But its gone to the big forum graveyard in the sky. Plus I was only in the 700 ratings then. I'm so much more now (and poorer for it too).

I tagged this thread a while ago so it will not automatically die after inactivity. I will also add a link to it in the forum info thread so that it's easy to find even if it does disappear from the visible listing.
