Heh now I'm almost tempted to buy the magazine just to see what is said as well as what image they end up using. Still it's interesting that now they pick this time for a "Shrine of the Morning Mist" section. Still glad it's getting a section.

I'm tempted to check it out for the profile on Junichi Sato...

In regards to the timing, it may have something to do with the release of the complete collection set, which is due this month. And I can't really call a 2 page illustration with a few paragraphs of accompanying text a "section". /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif As for the illo, it's Seiko, Yuzu, Tama, and Chika in their miko outfits in front of a stone torii. Tama & Chika are stuck in the background and you can basically just see their heads.

Ah okay in that case I'm quite certain I've seen the image before myself. As for being a section or not. Well for certain two pages isn't much.

That along with the first episode of Diamond Daydreams has me thinking about picking up this issue. Not to mention the Kaleido Star centerfold.

Does the Junichi Sato profile have any pics/info about Doremi? /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Absolutely none. It's 99% Kaleido Star, with a little bit of Tutu and Magic User's Club. Doremi isn't even listed in his "major works as director".

Another "must miss" issue for me. Although, I'll admit that it's nice to finally have an issue without those Elric brothers somewhere on or in it. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Definitely! I can't wait for this issue to arrive at my mailbox. Gankutsuou artwork, the profile of Junichi Sato, and I could always use another poster of my hero Sora. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

But the first episode of Kita e. ~Diamond Dust Drops~ is what I'm really anxious to see, especially since Jessica is suppose to be voicing the main character (Atsuko Akanegi) of this episode, so it's something I'm definitely looking forward to.

Magic User's Club is actually mentioned? *is further tempted* Any mention of Magic User's Club is good, as is Tutu of course. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

As for Doremi, Junichi Sato's involvement as series director was only with the first series (along with Takuya Igarashi) and Ojamajo Doremi Na-i-sho. I think that would be an important title to mention for him, though.

99% Kaleido Star? Well that seals it for me, now I have to wait for it to come to my bookstore /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif. Thanks for the info!

Is it worth buying for the Eureka Seven article?

I haven't brought an issue of Newtype in ages.

Awesome! I'll be getting this one for the highlights, the Sato Junichi content and some of the random articles. The DVD looks alright, too.

Thanks for the summary, Dave.

No mention of Pretear, either? That's odd; you'd think ADV would want to hype one of its series. /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif

Sukisho and Loveless? Ooh, this would be hard to resist if I could get Newtype USA here. Probably for the best, since eight pages of content isn't the best reason to spend $10+ dollars. ^^;;

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope, no Pretear either.

Text for the profile is by Amos Wong; don't know what, if any, relationship he has with ADV. He also does the "Postcards from Japan" column. It isn't my intent to mislead anyone, so while the profile occupies 4 pages of the magazine, I'd estimate that all together there's just over 1 page of text (and that includes the little sidebars on MUC and Tutu); most of the space is given over to 2 large Kaleido Star illustrations (1 x 2 page, 1 x 1 page).

Jessica Boone does in fact provide the voice for Atsuko Akanegi.

It says "Major works as director." Sato didn't direct Pretear, so maybe that's part of the reason it isn't listed. Though I'd also guess that since the bio box is Q&A format that Sato was the one who selected which works were listed.

BTW, anyone who's into Kyo Kara Maoh -- this issue has a great 2-page interview with the author of the novels on which the show was based. It's got some good bits on how the anime has re-influenced his work and so on -- interesting read.

That plus Angel/Dust neo made it a must-buy for me! /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

What does it say about Guyver and Witchblade?

01-27-2006, 02:23 AM
Witchblade - Gonzo's adaptation uses an all-new story & characters, and is set in a near-future Tokyo. In addition to the Witchblade character (Masane Amaha), there are a couple other players: Doji Industries, which is trying to develop a weapon around Witchblade technology; and a group with the initials NSWF, who are trying to create Witchblade wielders via genetic engineering.

director: Yoshimitsu Ohashi
character design: Makoto Uno
series organization & script: Yasuko Kobayashi

Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor- This piece is one of the two page "features"; most of the text is based around quotes & comments from series director Katsuhito Akiyama. Three items of possible interest that caught my eyes are: 1) the series is co-produced by ADV; 2) it will include stories or story elements that were cut or left unfinished from the original manga; and 3) it will make use of somewhat less digital processing of images, going back instead to a hand-drawn approach (especially for fight scenes).

...and she's absolutely brilliant as Atsuko! Another stellar performance from the woman who's single-handedly changing the face of voice acting. I just pre-ordered Diamond Daydreams so I'm anxious to watch the rest of Atsuko's story (and the other story too.) /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
