Well, it looks like my dream of having a legitimate anime convention in Cleveland (OH) is just that - a dream. /images/graemlins/sad.gif
According to their website, due to scheduling concerns, Paicon Genesis, which was schedule to take place on March 24-26 of this year, will not be running this year. Scheduling conflicts with their intended guests were the downfall in continuing on this year, although financial concerns might have played a role in the death of Paicon. According to their statement, all funds sent to Paicon will be returned within thirty days of this notice (January 19).
Needless to say I am extremely disappionted by this news, as I was looking forward to attending Paicon this year. It would have been my first legitimate anime convention (but not my first anime-related function), but that's what happens when you don't have the organizational skills or the funding necessary to conduct a major event. I kind of figured that Paicon was in trouble because the organizers never updated the website in terms of what guests and events would take place. Plus, I sent my pre-reg to them a month ago and never heard from them in regards to their receiving my pre-reg form. Hopefully the organizers of Paicon will learn from their mistakes/failures and work harder to make a Cleveland-based anime convention a reality.
