Recently, I finally got all of CHF on DVD. Like the other CH series, the DVDs are remastered. However, there was one really annoying problem I had after the first disc. Much like Sailor Moon, CHF reuses quite a bit of footage. For what ever reason, after the first disc all reused footage in'st remastered.

From the second disc on, the animation used for Honey's attacks (aside from Hyper Honey's attacks), reused henshin, flashbacks, and reused animation for Honey's speeches aren't remastered. Here are two examples: 1 (http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/7148/beforeafterchf6yd.png), 2 (http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/9219/beforeafterchf29lb.png)

This is pretty annoying since it sticks out so much. Just look at how... dirty the flim looks compared to the rest of the disc. I noticed they also did this with Majokko Tickle. Opening, ending, eyecatchers, and reused footage weren't remastered.

Is there any logic to this? What's the point of not remastering all of the video??

Sounds like laziness and corner-cutting, both of which are unheard of for remastered anime R2s.

I thought you were going to complain about the film damage at the bottom of the screen at scene changes. The series was littered with it. I recall Thanatos (correct me if I'm wrong) stating that this is a side effect of cheap TV animation and difficult to fix.

The problem you're showing there though, I didn't really notice when I watched through it quite some time ago. Is it possible that the film for that scene was remastered and that's as good as they can get it?

Toei didn't cut corners on any of other the remastered series I have (Cutie Honey TV, Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Space Pirate Captain Herlock or Galaxy Express 999 (a series that is 113 episodes and the op/ed are ALL remastered, as some look brighter than others and so on)). I'd like to think they had a good reason for not remastering it, if it really didn't go through the process.

I just find it hard to imagine them going through, scene by scene, for the clean up and deciding NOT to clean up just certain areas. That just seems... dumb to me. (and I'm not saying this isn't the case with Flash)

[/ QUOTE ]My guess: Possibly they decided to remaster the reused footage just once instead of repeatedly for every episode, so in the later episodes they skipped those sequences in the remastering process, planning to eventually replace them with the remastered versions from the first episode--but then forgot to actually do the latter.

I already know the whole deal with that (Sailor Moon, and the last episode of Cutie Honey 73 have the same problem) although it doesn't bother me since it doesn't show up on my TV.

Yeah, I have the other CH series too and the quality is excellent. But as I mentioned before, my Majokko Tickle DVDs (also Toei) have the same issue. Also, they don't seem to bother remastering the video on any extras. Sailor Moon's clean OP/ED and 30 second previews have crappy video/audio, like wise with CHF's opening/ending. (though the CHF toy commericals are remastered)

Humm, this sucks..i was really planning to get the CHF series sooner or later to complete my CH collection but this is ain't good /images/graemlins/depresse.gif

Speaking of the series, how is it ? my friend (who is also a Go Nagai fan) told to stay away from it since it has nothing to do with the Cutie Honey i know beside the fact it was done by the Sailor Moon team and made it pretty much like it /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif unlike the Re: Cutie Honey. Any thoughts ?

Btw, Rando what's the Mazinkaizer vs Cutie Honey pic ? a new manga/anime ? the art looks pretty nice for it to be a fan made (then again it might be /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif )

Well, aside from this issue CHF has an excellent release. Beautiful covers, booklets, decent extras, etc.

Cutey Honey F is very good. At first glance, it looks like it changes most of the story, but it's surprising how they make tribute to the original series throughout the series. For example, in CHF, Honey's old Principal (Pochi) has been turned into Alphonne's pet dog in CHF. And in one episode, Honey meets a scientist who was close to Prof. Kisaragi. Not only does the scientist (whose name escapes me right now) look like Fancy Honey (Honey's model form from the original)but her seiyuu is Eiko Masuyama! (The original seiyuu for Honey) /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

It is a bit more sappy like Sailor Moon (The Light of Love is a key in this CH) and in'st as dark as the original CH. (ie- Honey fights for justice this time, not for revenge) Although the series haven't been toned down alot, there is a surprisly alot of nudity, and quite a bit of shocking violence. Is a really great series, and it gets better in the Misty Honey arc. The only problem I have with CHF is the filler episodes can be pretty dull. That, and I thought episode 39 was a complete waste of time...

And there are alot of Go Nagai references shattered in the series. CHF seems to have more Mazinger Z references than anything. There's one scene where a TV shows a Mazinger-like robot, Honey rides a Pilder in one episode, Freddy Claw is a female mixture of Dr. Hell and Baron Ashura, Gorgon Claw is a female version of Duke Gorgon, etc. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Haha, I'm not totally sure what it is. I think it may be a doujinshi, I was googling around Mazinkaiser and I found it (http://www15.plala.or.jp/kamonanban/doujin.html).

Well, the movie is mainly for people who know the series and it's characters. It takes place in the Misty Honey arc, where some revolations happen. Not to mention, it has a slightly different feel from the TV series, more flashy henshins, more nudity, and other ecchi-y moments. I wouldn't watch the movie until you're done with the thrid DVD (first one in volume 3, beginning of Misty Honey arc)
