Yeah. I'm just a little curious about your R2-collecting habits.

I've recently found myself just doing some picking and choosing of specific volumes only, instead of collecting the complete series anymore. This applies mostly to recent and current anime tv-series I'd seen that ain't just worthy enough to collect completely anymore. Some TV-series I even don't bother getting the R2 and just pray it gets an R1.

So then, do you complete the R2-series you're collecting or are you picking and choosing specific volumes to collect?

As long as funds permit it, always go with the completion of the series. Exceptions apply if the said series becomes filler-ish and stupid.

Always completing the series, where funds permit. Nowadays, I'm mainly going for DVD boxsets which often means the complete set. However, I'm not adverse to the idea of getting choice volumes though if the situation warrants it.

I'd feel better with a complete collection of a series, but unfortunately the R2 series which catch my interest most are very long and therefore very expensive.
I've hit the point where I have 9 Naruto R2's and 6 Bleach and don't know what to do next - uncut Naruto boxset 1 is out in the summer and that's 13 eps - all for the price more or less of one of those Naruto R2 DVDs. Depending on how frequently the uncut sets are released I'll either keep buying Naruto or just go down the R1 route.

With Bleach, I'm at an advantage because I've already seen it fansubbed and I more or less know what's going on in each DVD so I don't feel like I'm wasting money or anything. Add to that the fact there's been no R1 license as of yet and I'll keep buying it.

The other R2 series that is calling me is One Piece which is probably my favourite out of all those series. I am reading the JP manga so I am probably going to buy the DVDs with the anime-only filler and the movies. I'll probably also buy the Arlong Arc at some point as I loved that in the manga and want to see how it turns out animated.

I just got into buying R2s a month ago, but this is how I planned it...

Paradise Kiss is the only R2 that I'm collecting ALL of (3 volumes, pre-ordering for a great price on Amazon Japan).

I'll get R2 anime movies (Fullmetal Alchemist movie LE is shipping next week).

The other R2s I plan to buy are for the live action Sailor Moon, and for now, it'll be choice volumes first (favorite episodes, like the Dark Mercury arc).

While I've stopped collecting R2s for multiple reasons. If I were to start collecting them again, my intention would be the same as before. Ie to complete the said series. I find getting random volumes a waste of time and money personally.

Most of my R2 collection are classic/old school shows that comes out on DVD sets 1st (Mazinger Z, Takarajima, Plawres Sanshiro...etc)therefore i usually go for the complete set of the series.

Choice volumes first, but then I sometimes complete a series if I get obcessed with the R2J & want to fill in the gaps or am dissatisfied with R1/R2E versions. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Limited budget so choice volumes for me. Unless, of course, I'm a fanatic of the series then I may take the dive and go for the whole series /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Usually I complete a series and if it's worth it try to do it over multiple media types.

I always try to complete the series. There are times where the anime goes down hill and I drop the series ie ToHeart2 and Eureka7.

When I collect R2's I collect the entire series, never understood the point of only buying a few of the DVD's. However I've currently gone on hiatus with DVD buying as a whole because I need to save some money for my upcoming PC upgrade.

I buy the whole series. But the vast majority of R2s I buy already come in complete boxsets (or a series of boxsets like Tonde Boorin). The only single volume series in my collection are Sailormoon (bought it all ::squee::) and Paradise Kiss. NANA will eventually be added to that list when the DVDs go on sale in, like, a year.

For most series I try to buy a complete set, but there are a few I gave up halfway through when the R1 was announced or when I just gave up from loss of interest. The one series I wouldn't even try to buy a complete set of is Detective Conan. By design, I only collect the Takagai/Satoh episodes. I keep track from a Japanese webpage that lists the episodes as they are aired with the corresponding manga volume, and since I own the manga I know which stories are the ones I want. And then I order just those volumes by checking the episode number list on CDJapan's Japanese language page (since the English version doesn't always list the episode #s and the episodes are not necessarily released in broadcast order on the DVDs).
