So I read in a recent issue of Wizard that Gonzo has picked up the rights to make a 26 episode series based on the Witchblade comics. From all I've seen and heard, Gonzo can be somewhat hit or miss. Which worries me. Because I love Witchblade. Especially the first couple of arcs. It is cool, however, that they are not directly translating the story but making one of their own. I'm apprehensive but excited at the same time. What do you guys think?

I have no real feelings on it, I've never read Witchblade myself. However since someone is bound to mention it, here's a thread (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=1220231&page=&view=&s b=5&o=) for the series. It even mentions the official website.

I'm not familiar with the comic, but I did see a little of the Yancy Butler TV show. The premise seemed a little improbable - though not more improbable that the premises of a lot of anime series...

Anyway, official web site is here (http://www.witchblade.jp/), some other information is here (http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/5520.html) and here (http://img60.imageshack.us/my.php?image=witchbladeanime2jq.jpg). ANN already has an encyclopedia entry (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4284).

I stopped reading Witchblade about the time Paul Jenkins stopped writing it and Keu Cha stopped penciling it. I haven't gone back since although I've heard the book is ok. While I really enjoyed what they did with the book in the beginning, I didn't care so much for it after issue 25 and didn't get back into it really until issue 40 or so.

In any case, it'll be interesting to see what Gonzo does with Witchblade and how much stuff they'll lift from the comic and how much they'll make up.

Well, according to the article we will get to see all the previous owners of the Witchblade from the past. Which has always been the most intriguing aspect of the comic to me. The new run isn't great by any means, but it isn't bad either. But, you're right. The first 25 issues were the best, and will never be topped. Unless of course, Gonzo pulls something out of their ass and manages to actually best the comics. God I hope they pull through on this one. The potential is there for something truly awesome.
