These two titles have caught my attention recently as a fan of shonen/fighting anime in general and also someone who appreciates older anime.
The Saint Seiya boxset 1 is especially calling me as I can get it at DVD Pacific for about £17! /images/graemlins/happy.gif Any issues with the set I should know about?
So, are they worth getting? Also, isn't there a Shadow Skill OVA released by manga? If so do I need to have seen that to appreciate the TV series?

I've seen the Shadow Skill OVA and based on what I've read the TV series explains everything the OVA did.

I don't know anything about Shadow Skill but Saint Seiya is a very very kick ass anime. Considering the box set has 30 entire episodes it's a steal.

The only warning about Saint Seiya is ADV has only released 2 1/2 seasons and havn't confirmed if they're gonna/can release the rest of it.

Shadow Skill TV is FAR superior to the OVA..or anything animated in the franchise thus far. In fact, it has 1-2 fights that are largely considered some of the most BADASS of the BADASS fights ever animated thus far in history.
Saint Seiya is like Getter with mystical people only....hot blooded, violent, and incredibly awesome. Even though not all of it is available so far....what IS out is quite nice indeed.

Nah, the TV series starts the story from the beginning so the OVA is not necessary.

I think there's already a thread in this forum asking about St. Seiya, so go read that for info:

As far as shadow skill goes... I hated the OAV because I had no idea what was going on, but the new series seems to flesh the story out... how's the animation? I didn't think the series was that old, but the animation looks pretty dated from the previews... not that animation is everything, of course.

It's not bad. It's circa 1998 when cell and computer colored animation were starting to mesh so the majority of it is cell animation with some computer colored scenes thrown in. Kind of like Silent Mobius only more polished and less distracting. Par for the course for fighting anime, most of the good animation is saved for the fights but overall the animation quality isn't bad. Unless the budget took a hit later on...

Want to know a strange coincidence? The Shadow Skill manga artist is a big Saint Seiya fan, and he's currently drawing the Saint Seiya prequel manga, Episode G (Kurumada still writes it).
