It may be Toonami's birthday, but we're the ones getting the gifts.
Starting Saturday, March 18, Toonami will be airing a month of Miyazaki films, at 7:30PM each week. The films are as follows:
Spirited Away (shown earlier this month on Fridays)
Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Princess Mononoke
I guess Spirited Away was a sign that CN would be doing what TCM did last month. This is VERY good news. I can't wait to see Mononoke. That film's pretty bloody, but they already showed Spirited Away unscathed, so this one shouldn't be any different. I don't even think they're allowed to edit Miyazaki's films.
And don't be surprised if they show Naruto at a later time each night. Remember when Batman aired in November? There's no way Nate the Ninja will get preempted, not even for the great Miyazaki.

As long as they don't air live-action movies like they've been doing, I'm happy.

A lot of people seemed to have watched 'em on Turner Classic Movies a month or so ago when they showed like 12 different films (including these 4). This is definitely a good thing for those people who might've missed it and don't own these movies though!
I'm going to tell people at work to watch. Gotta spread Miyazaki goodness. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

Heck, I already have these movies. But I'm glad Miyazaki is getting some mainstream exposure.

Me too. In fact, I own 2 versions of Mononoke and Nausicaa (the R1 and the R2 for both). And then of course the R1 Laputa and Spirited Away.
Though I am sorta disappointed in this lineup for one reason: I enjoyed Kiki's far more than Laputa, so I think that one should be there.

I must say, showing Mononoke on Toonami takes guts. But then again, this is Cartoon Network in the 21st century, when they're not anal anymore.

Not anal? Then explain that gun edit in Zatch Bell not even a year ago that looked like something that came out of somebody's anal cavity. Not to mention the whole "let's tranquilize the bear that put the kid's parents in the hospital" thing they had last night.
'99-'01 Toonami was the best.
I can't wait until Toonami self-destructs when parents complain about Princess Mononoke. I can totally see that becoming a big thing. It almost happened when it was shown in theaters, but this Cartoon Network deal's got to give it much more exposure.

Are you talking about the "Kyrptonite gun"? I saw that. Worse than the disco guns in Gundam SEED.
And they "tranquilized" a bear? Wow, that is pretty anal. I mean, a vicious animal attacks little kids, yet they can't kill it? Well, at least they used tranquilizer darts and not "poison suction cups". /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
Okay, let me rephrase what I said. Toonami's not as anal as it used to be. 5 years ago, we would've been seeing a heavily edited version of Naruto (well, actually, we wouldn't see it at all since it didn't come out in Japan till '02, but you get the idea).

CN already begun airing there ads on it.

Um... of course they did. How else would we know about it.
FYI, it took me a while to realize that the BGM in those promos was from their SD Gundam Force ads. They just HAD to remind me of that terrible insult to Gundam fans.

The idea of watching a Miyazaki film with commercial breaks bothers me a little. These works are masterpieces that deserve to be shown without interruptions. That's why I enjoyed the TCM presentation, but will skip the CN showing. Well, that and the fact that I already own them on DVD. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

I don't think so. They're currently showing the final episodes of JLU, of which there's only 6 left. They'd better not interrupt this show.

JLU will be on this week for sure (3-4-2006) and probably the following week (3-11-2006). The Miyazaki films don't start until the 18th of this month, so I expect the JLU gone for a month to start there, if they take it off for that four weeks.

I'd just like to give a tip of the hat (if I wore one) to Toonami and Cartoon Network for another year. I havent watched CN in a long time, but some years ago (6? 5? I cant remember) they started airing anime that I was aware of, and well, thats why I'm here today.
I haven't seen Toonami in a long time(couple years). Do they still have the same VA for the robot host? He had a awsome voice.
