I was looking back at my purchase receipts (keep them all!) & can more or less find out what I was watching back to 1999, when I first started really building my collection;
1999 Evangelion VHS. 2000 Battle Athletes OVA VHS. 2001 Macross. 2002 Kimagure Orange Road VHS (first time for TV). 2003 Sailor Moon & City Hunter season 1. 2004 Sailor Moon S & City Hunter season 1 2005 Sailor Moon Stars & ZZ Gundam 2006 Planetes.

I have only a record of what I was watching this time last year looking at my DVD Profiler entries.

2006 - Bought: Diamond Daydreams Vol. 1
Borrowed: Hand Maid May, Gad Guard Vol. 1 & 2, and Volumes 1 - 4 of Corrector Yui.
02-26-2006, 01:47 PM
2006: Fullmetal Alchemist
2005: Rune Soldier
2003: Love Hina
2001: Fushigi Yugi
2000: Gundam Wing

Ahh... a history question, interesting... Let me see if I can remember where I was at in February the past few years, using some the release dates as a reference point (I don't keep receipts /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif). I haven't really ever collected much, so it's pretty easy to remember.
2005 - Three great Ghibli movies (Cat Returns, Nausicaa, Porco Rosso), and also greatly saddened over having to wait longer for Princess Tutu
2004 - Starting on Tenchi GXP, and the end of Sugar. Was in the midst of collecting Angelic Layer, Pretear, and Super GALS (ahh... the days of ADV bliss)
2003 - Starting up on the last season of Cardcaptor Sakura and nearing the end for Sailor Moon SuperS. Only a month or so after buying Magical Project S, and it's the extreme phase of my addiction had yet worn off (heck, it never really wore off at all /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif)
2002 - Absorbed in Magic User's Club TV and slightened saddened that the end for it was coming. In the midst of collecting Cardcaptor Sakura and probably where my interest in the series really starts to take off (the release of Vols. 4 & 7 is the commonly considered point for me, since my collection of the series was a little sporadic before then)
2001 - My Tenchi collection (which to that point only consisted of the first movie) expands with the addition of the OVA series and Manatsu no Eve (which I saw for the first time and enjoyed greatly). My collection of the Sailor Moon series begins in earnest with the start of Sailor Moon S. Also got the Bardock special of DBZ (at that time was only collecting stuff related to what I saw on TV)
2000 - Not yet into anime. It was possible I was playing the fan-translated version of Sailor Moon: Another Story at the time, though (which would eventually lead me into getting into anime)
02-26-2006, 02:01 PM
Basically all my series since I started buying anime since 2002.
Record of Lodoss War (OVAS and TV series)
Escaflowne: Perfect Collection
Kiki's Delivery Service
Castle in the Sky
Video Girl Ai
Please Save My Earth
Witch Hunter Robin
Descendants from Darkness
Blood: The Last Vampire
Hmm, this is tough. 7 years pretty much chronicles my entire anime obsession. Gonna have to go back through release dates to figure these out...
2005: Scrapped Princess, Gankutsuo, Ghost in the shell 2nd Gig
2004: Kino's Journey, Last Exile, Yu Yu Hakusho, Heat Guy J
2003: X TV, Utena, Rahxephon, Infinite Ryvius, Fruits Basket, Cardcaptor Sakura, Crestof the Stars and its sequels, Argentosoma
2002: Vandread, Kenshin, His and Her Circumstances, GTO, Berserk, Love Hina
2001: Bebop (kicked off my real anime obsession with the advent of adultswim), Lain, Evangelion
2000: Dragonball Z
1999: Dragonball Z
italics: started watching this year, but went into next year a fair bit due to being a long running series
Of not is that I tried to just show the series I followed as their releases came out, and not entire series I bought in a short span, since I thought it would give a better indication as to what I watched throughout the year.
So as you can see, my obsession got steadily larger and larger and pretty much climaxed in 2003, and since has tapered off quite a bit.
02-26-2006, 02:34 PM
Pokemon was the first anime I ever watched regularly back in 1999 and it stayed that way until 2003. Then my anime hobby really took off with Blue Gender, Cowboy Bebop, Dragonball Z, FLCL, Rurouni Kenshin, Trigun, Yu Yu Hakusho, and the year culminated with Fruits Basket. 2004 got even better with Case Closed and Wolf's Rain. Haibane Renmei began with me by the end of 2004 and I finished it during Spring of 2005.
All I can say is thank goodness for Adult Swim and Toonami. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Let's see if I can remember this correctly:

2004: Ai Yori Aoshi: Enishi, Saikano vol.s 1-2, Slayers Movies, Slayers OAV, Galaxy Angel, started watching Galaxy Angel Z, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

So far, I think that's it. Whew! /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
02-26-2006, 04:26 PM
I barely remember what I watched last week, so basically to make a long story short, I watched what was available on tv and on vhs from a local video club, started my dvd collection in February 2001(when I got my Playstation 2, and my 1st title: CPM's Wild Cardz) and never looked back(a little under 1,300 titles, mostly anime according to dvdaf), just click the disc on the corner of my post /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
02-26-2006, 04:37 PM
I think GW showed up on the airwaves in '99, which dragged me out of a sort-of anime rut I'd been in for a few years, having mostly stuck to what I could catch on TV and less on VHS...
02-26-2006, 05:52 PM
Picking highlights of each year, done very roughly in best-first order. Most are only shown in first year unless they continued through *all* of next year etc. These are only shows I bought on DVD, not those I otherwise saw.
Ones with a ? I'm not sure which year it was - I was using Chris's list, but these are series that I either bought later than they came out, or else got in a different region.
1999: Record of Lodoss War OAV (CPM original set), Utena, Serial Experiments Lain, Fushigi Yuugi
2000: Sailor Moon movies, Magic Knight Rayearth, Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, Jubei-chan, Trigun
2001: Cardcaptor Sakura, Evangelion, Magic Knight Rayearth 2, (Rose of Versailles?), Sailor Moon S
2002: CCS, Berserk, Now and then, Here and There, (Pretear?), Fancy Lala, Princess Nine, Hyper Police
2003: Haibane Renmei, CCS, Sugar, Rune Soldier
2004: Texhnolyze, GitS:SAC
2005: Paranoia Agent, (Fruits Basket?), Scrapped Princess, Jubei-chan 2
2006: Ah! My Goddess TV
Kind of interesting exercise to look through all that. Also amusing to notice the shows I bought - not listed - which were a mistake /images/graemlins/happy.gif I did also get other shows which weren't a mistake but weren't notable enough to list, e.g. one-shots and suchlike. I've also probably forgotten things.
This year looks kind of weak so far, doesn't it! But actually I only just finished watching Sutepri and J2 both, so it isn't really like I haven't been watching anime. That said there aren't too many upcoming/currently-running series that I feel all that enthused about. It's only February though. I guess I should start GitS 2, hrm...
02-26-2006, 05:56 PM
Like others, this timeframe covers pretty much my entire anime exposure. Well, I'll post some highlights from each year.
1999: Dragon Ball Z
2000: DBZ, Gundam Wing, Ronin Warriors, Tenchi
2001: Princess Mononoke, First Gundam 0079, Outlaw Star
2002: G-Gundam, Gundam 08th MS Team
2003: Big O, Rurouni Kenshin (or did that start on Toonami in 2004?)
2004: Rurouni Kenshin (sure about this one), Cyborg 009
2005: Zatch Bell, Bo^7, X (TV), Chobits, Angelic Layer, Cardcaptor Sakura, Gundam 08th MS Team (again, got the DVD brick), Pretear, Magic Knight Rayearth
2006: Bo^7, Zatch Bell, Cardcaptor Sakura, Gundam Wing (again, when the bricks come out)
2006 hentai: Another Lady Innocent, Sexfriend, Doctor Shameless
2005 has been the biggest year for anime for me thanks to affordable brick packages.
02-26-2006, 07:07 PM
DVDProfiler for only goes as far back as January 26th of last year, so I am counting only fully watched series/movies (not counting what I saw on TV)
2003 (From what I can remember):
Tenchi OVA Ultimate Edition, Neon Genesis Evangelion perfect edition, Akira, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away
2004 (From what I can remember):
Please Teacher, Ai Yori Aoshi, Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi, Macross (AnimEigo release), Akira, Spirited Away, Vampire Hunter D, Great Teacher Onizuka, Orphen, Blue Seed
Ghost in the Shell - special edition movie, Please! Twins, Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum Edition (2x), RahXephon (2x), Fruits Basket, Azumanga Daioh, Escaflowne TV/movie, Excel Saga, Kaliedo Star, Tenchi Muyo OVA 1&2, Tenchi Movies 1&2, Hand Maid May, Chobits, Last Exile, El-Hazard OVA 1&2, Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV, The Place Promised in our Early Days, Yukikaze, Jungle de Ikou, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
2006 so far:
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Scrapped Princess, working on Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain and Full Metal Panic.
02-26-2006, 07:18 PM
I can remember watching these a decade ago (1995-1996):
Marmalade Boy, Fushigi Yugi, Macross Plus, Giant Robo, Please Save My Earth, Combustible Campus Guardress, Whisper of the Heart, Evangelion, Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell, Memories
This was probably when my interest in anime hit its peak. I remember going to the premiere of Ghost in the Shell at Anime East '95, which wa also where I saw Memories for the first time. Note that the final episode of Giant Robo didn't come out until 1998; it took six years for that series to be completed.
For me, 1997 was the year of Utena...
I also recall the anime I watched while in high school. I remember watching Kimagure Orange Road for the first time in my senior year, so that would have been 1992. My first real exposure to anime was as a freshman, so that means I was watching Macross: DYRL, Megazone 23, Bubblegum Crisis, Akira, Robot Carnival, and Windaria (among others) back in 1989. /images/graemlins/happy.gif
02-27-2006, 02:27 AM
Picking notables of each year:
1999: Serial Experiments Lain (#1 being the first DVD I bought online) and Battle Athletes Victory (and Pokemon!)
2000: Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Slayers, Legend of Black Heaven (and Urusei Yatsura started up then)
2001: Cardcaptor Sakura, Boogiepop Phantom, The Big O, Nadia, Magic Users Club, NieA_7 (and Patlabor began)
2002: NTHT, Jin Roh, His and Her Circumstances, FLCL
2003: First batch of the Ghibli movies, Maison Ikkoku began, Alien Nine, Haibane Renmei
2004: Texhnolyze, Azumanga Daioh, Gad Guard, Last Exile, GitS: SAC, R.O.D. the TV
2005: More Ghibli, Rumiko Takahashi Anthology, The Daichis, Planetes, Genshiken
As far as the number and variety of shows I bought and/or watched, 2001 and 2004 are the most interesting. 01' is typical for a lot of people probably who were active at the time, and 04' was like a big deluge of desirable titles before the "correction" set in.
02-27-2006, 03:46 AM
Just listing the big series that really 'defined' my viewing at the time. Started with watching Gundam Wing on CN in early 2001. All series are listed in the year I began buying them (or watching them on TV), so assume I continued through the entire release.
2001: Nadesico, Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Gundam Wing, DBZ,
2002: GTO, Big O, Outlaw Star, Dual, TWHE,
2003: Berserk, Risky Safety, Battle Athletes Victory,
2004: Fighting Spirit, Super Gals, Fruits Basket, Flame of Recca,
2005: Midori Days, Gungrave, S-Cry-Ed, Shingu, City Hunter, Slam Dunk, Psychic Academy, Avenger, Gravion,
02-27-2006, 12:37 PM
The first show that I really knew was from Japan, i.e. "anime" was Star Blazers (i.e. Space Cruiser Yamato). I vaguely remember watching Gigantor and Prince Planet when I was a kid. I didn't know that it was "anime" until later.
02-27-2006, 02:03 PM
Umm.... in '86, I was watching Robotech...
all been a blur since then.
02-27-2006, 05:00 PM
As others have said, this seems like a fun idea. I keep track of what I watch nowadays (if out of the nagging fear that I'll manage to miss an episode along the way), which ought to help me reconstruct at least the last few Februarys.
2005: Not content with just having seen "Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind" for the first time, I was juggling five series at once: Last Exile, Dai-Guard, Gundam Seed, Nadesico (rewatching it), and Zeta Gundam. That was probably more storylines to keep track of at once time than is fully wise: nowadays, I just juggle three series at a time. Of those five, I found myself the most interested in Gundam Seed (and yet, I don't think I'm a bad person...)
2004: I was starting into Cardcaptor Sakura and Trigun, and also watching a little bit of Hana Yori Dango and the Evangelion "director's" episodes.
2003: In February, I was in a gap in between Cowboy Bebop discs.
2002: I'd just started a new job. I remember finding a Gunsmith Cats disc for sale at the local video store (to rewatch), and had finished watching Macross just recently.
2001: A great drought for me, anime-wise. In that year, though, I bought a DVD player and managed to start a personal DVD collection.
2000: This was the beginning of the drought, although I did manage to begin rewatching Robotech (and watching the episodes of it I hadn't seen fifteen years before...)
1999: Still at university, I was going to the anime club's monthly shows, and finding myself interested in Escaflowne, Saber Marionette J, Nadia, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Rurouni Kenshin.
1998: Going all the way back to seven years, the anime club had a schedule that included Evangelion, Patlabor, and the Irresponsible Captain Tylor.
I could go all the way back to ten years ago as far as watching anime I knew was anime, but I think I've said enough. At times I do find myself a little amazed I'm still going strong.
02-27-2006, 07:15 PM
I don't go nearly as far back as other folks (unless you count random stuff in the 80's, where I just can't remember the exact year for any one show). No specific order here, all shows of certain impact or importance, and all based on a majority of volumes for each show seen within each given year. I've also decided to lay off of the "bold" tags, just this once, to spare the reader's eyes. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
2002: Tenchi, Sailor Moon S, Trigun, Princess Mononoke, Gunsmith Cats, Kiki's Delivery Service
2003: Revolutionary Girl Utena, Kimagure Orange Road, Crest/Banner of the Stars, Video Girl Ai, Key the Metal Idol, Please Save My Earth, Voices of a Distant Star, Tsukikage Ran, El Hazard OVA, His and Her Circumstances, Moldiver, Excel Saga, Sailor Moon Super S, Haibane Renmei, Chobits, Vampire Princess Miyu OVA, Najica Blitz Tactics, Devil Hunter Yohko, Kacho Oji (The Legend of Black Heaven)
2004: Pet Shop of Horrors, Cardcaptor Sakura, Kiddy Grade, first season Sailor Moon and R, Rurouni Kenshin, Plastic Little, X TV, Battle Athletes Victory, Sentimental Journey, Nurse Witch Komugi, The Devil Lady, Read or Die OVA, Virtua Fighter, Stainless Night, Jungle Emperor Leo movie, Here is Greenwood, Last Exile, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
2005: Battle Athletes OVA, Alien Nine, Gunslinger Girl, Burst Angel, Chrono Crusade, Patlabor TV, Cyber City Oedo, Takahashi Rumiko Theater, Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV and OVAs, Magic User's Club OVA and TV, Fushigi Yugi TV, Azumanga Daioh, Divergence Eve, Melody of Oblivion, Sensitive Pornograph, Human Crossing, Dai-Guard, Angelic Layer, Now and Then, Here and There, Infinite Ryvius, Avenger, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Blue Submarine No. 6, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Genshiken, Another Lady Innocent
Man...the 2006 list, if it is ever compiled, will be HUGE.
*Edit: This took way too much effort, Njr. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I'll just highlight what i remember and know
1999: Tenchi Muyo!, Big O (season 1), Gundam Wing, the first few titles on afternoon CN
2000: Record of Lodoss War, VHS tape marathon. The Hollywood video near my college had them all.
2001: What ever was over at the Hollywood video & CN (I was at college still /images/graemlins/wink.gif)
2002: First DVD purchases for anime: Excel Saga, El-Hazard, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Record of the Lodoss Wars and Tenchi Muyo! (OVA) to name a few. Also, watched some used tapes for scouting. Rented heavily at Blockbusters Got to watch the second season of Fuushigi Yuugi and the OVA /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif and alot more that i cannot remember off the top of my head. /images/graemlins/sweat200.gif
2003: Started to collect Noir along with Crest of the Stars series (and banner of course /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif) Started to collect some Full Metal Panic too.
2004: Nuns and Guns /images/graemlins/cool.gif The underrated Kaze no Yojimbo. Then a little Azumanga Daioh /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif
2005: Ah! My Goddess the TV show, Tenchi GXP, Planetes
2006: Macross and some finishing off titles.
