These were mostly pretty easy, actually.
Kozue Aoba (Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~) - Sorry Kurumi, Aoba is far too awesome for you to beat /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
Yomiko Readman (Read or Die) - Easy one.
Mahoro Ando (Mahoromatic - Easy again!
Nemu Asakura (D.C. ~Da Capo~) - Easy, mostly because I havent seen Negima.
Midori Kasugano (Midori Days) - Midori easily.
Chika Ito (Ichigo Mashimaro) - No strong feelings.
Rabi~en~Rose (Di Gi Charat) - I'm kinda surprised I'm picking her but... Well yeah /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
Arashi Shinozuka (Gad Guard) - I really hope Arashi wins this one >_>
Overall not a terribly strong bracket -- Kozue-chan is my favorite by far, but I know she doesn't have a very good chance of winning.

Hey Aya, I can't remember which thread it was in that you explained how the final six would go, so I'll just make my point here. At the time I agreed with how you had it set up (the six together in one match and so on), but then I got thinking... do we really have enough voters for that? If we get 40-60 or so votes per match (edit looks like recent matches have been creeping up a bit to the higher end, 50-65 or so, but still not enough...), that's not really enough votes to divide up among 6 characters, I feel. I wonder if it wouldn't just be better to do three 1v1 matches (bracket 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6 or whatever) and then one 1v1v1 (woudlnt want to give a by on the finals), or two 1v1v1 matches (1v2v3 and 4v5v6) and one 1v1 so we don't spread the votes out too much.
But I mean, it's up to you in the end, you've been running the whole things yourself all this time (and it's been really fun, at that). And maybe the last matches will bring in some new voters, but I doubt it's really enough to get a good vote with six characters at once. What do you think?

Kurumi Momose -- because she made being normal moe. Bravo!
Yomiko Readman -- Is it the glasses?... yeah, it is ^_^
Mahoro Andou -- maid android FTW (Gomen, Misao-tan!)
Konoka Konone -- went on familiarity, plus it's an Ai Nonaka role.
Midori Kasugano -- Sorry, Micchan. Midori just oozes cuteness though without overdoing it.
Chika Ito -- no strong feelings on either, so I went with the IchiMashi girl
Chii -- Oh, come on... it's CHII!!!
Nyuu -- Adult women with the mindsets of two year olds... it's a beautiful thing.

I've been wanting to check and see which seiyuu (going by characters voiced) was doing best in this tournament, so I started compiling some data since I'm curious as to how they stand after Round 2. Won't have it completed until Group VI is accounted for, but from the first five groups, the interesting standouts so far:
Ayako Kawasumi predictably has the most characters still standing, four, though there's also five of hers that have been knocked out. There's a few seiyuu with three, Mai Nakahara, Fumiko Orikasa, Mamiko Noto, and Tomoko Kawakami. There are a few in which several characters voiced were nominated, but have been pretty unlucky: Nana Mizuki, Yui Horie, Houko Kuwashima, and Yuki Matsuoka. Very interested at looking over the data when the next round's results come in... /images/graemlins/happy.gif

Well, got some of my pics of Misao and gathered up a few more, so here's a few I picked out.
Misao (http://home.mchsi.com/~empbrandon/misao_rumiya.jpg) 2 (http://home.mchsi.com/~empbrandon/misao_feathers.jpg) 3 (http://home.mchsi.com/~empbrandon/misao_ova3_swimsuit.jpg)
A bit of Misao's moe-ness, I think, comes from her close friendship with Sasami, so having pics of them both helps (since Sasami's out, I suppose she wouldn't mind helping her friend come through /images/graemlins/wink.gif)

I must be missing something. Isn't Midori the psycho stalker that avoiding being slapped with a restraining order by wishing herself onto her target's person so that he could never get rid of her? Not only that, but is she the one that is so self centered that she would rather have her own family think that she was in a coma/dead rather than facing up to real life? I find her more than mildly disturbing and not cute at all. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif (just personal opinion of course)

She's the type of girlfriend that will flip out if she sees you talking to anyone else. As long as you don't mind sleeping knowing that you might wake up with a knife in the back, I guess there is no problem.

Maybe when it comes to Midori, people more attention to her behavior while on Seji's hand than the reason she's on his hand on the first place. All I know is deciding between Miu and Midori was more of a flip of the coin.
Mainly because on one hand you have the problems for Midori you mentioned, but on the other hand when it comes to Miu, it's not really her moeness, but her evilness that makes her fun. I had trouble voting for either one so I winged it. Silly as it may seem.

My votes went as follows:
Kozue Aoba (Mahoraba) - The Gonzaga of the Moe Invitational is too awesome and very cute, plus she's my choice to win Bracket II (and quite possibly the entire tournament).
Miu (DearS) - Miu looks and acts more moeish than Yomiko, but I feel that Miu-chan will lose this match. (Then again, I thought that Kuyou Senjyou would lose and she's still in this tourney, so anything's possible! /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif)
Mahoro Ando (Mahoromatic) - voted based on familiarity.
Nemu Asakuru (D.C. ~da Capo~)
Miu Matsuka (Ichigo Mashimaro) - I don't see the Ichigo machine slowing down anytime soon.
Chika Ito (Ichigo Mashimaro) - The clock strikes midnight for Mamoru, which <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>is ironic since Mamoru dressed as Cinderrella in the school play they performed for Wataru in Episode 6 of Sister Princess.</span>
Chi (Chobits) vs. Nyuu (Elfen Lied) - I read various articles when Elfen Lied first hit the Western market that the Nyuu persona closely resembled Chi from Chobits. I would love to see what would happened if mentor (Chi) and protege (Nyuu) would face off. It could be the most interesting battle of the tournament.
EDIT: Bracket II Finals prediction: Kozue Aoba vs. Nyuu

It's almost ridiculously so that I thought that the creators of the show must have intended this character to be taken as a parody of Chii and not really to be taken any more seriously than that. A small difference is that she's probably a little more "genki" than Chii, but I can't think of too many other differences besides the obvious physical appearances and one saying "Nyuu!" instead of "Chii!" If they actually survive long enough to face each other I'd probably lean more towards Chii, but I still have to think a little about it. Nyuu was probably overall a lot more amusing though /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif.

Given how much abuse, physical and emotional, she's taken in the course of the three volumes of the manga I've read, I'd say she's practically a saint. She may be "clingy" but... she's his hand, for crying out loud XD

So quiet obsessive girls aren't moe? *goes through the remaining contestant list* I'm pretty sure half of these girls count as overly-obsessive. Being in love, unable to say it, and letting it boil inside for the entire series is extremely moe IMO. More to this though, I just don't think Micchan is as moe as everyone makes her out to be. Yes, she is as diabolically cute as she is a pain in the butt, but that splits my love and hate for her right down the middle. I'm putting all my IchiMashi hopes on Ana from here on out (still can't believe Matsuri-tan was eliminated already).

[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm... let's see.
Stalking Seiji. Chapter one.
Wishing herself onto her target's person. Chapter one.
Being in a coma because she refuses to face reality. Chapter one and chapter two.
Hmm... I didn't make it past the first volume. But I'm a person who is willing to give anything a fair chance, so I borrow a few more volumes from a friend who loves the series.
Volume 2 chapter 1. <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Midori wakes up from her coma. her mother was worried sick about her and was spending all of her time and resources to revive her daughter. She wakes up and you know what she does? She decides to go back into her coma just so that she can continue to be Seiji's hand and escape from reality. Great. So my mother dies a bit more on the inside every day as she tries her best to revive me and I'm going to spit in her face and go back to the fake life of living with Seiji. Lets just ignore the fact that Seiji is now aware that I exist and I could easily start a real relationship with him. Screw that, lets continue with my psycho stalker ways and avoid any chance of being turned down!</span>
So I make it through the rest of the second volume and decide that Midori has more than a few mental problems. If she wasn't "attached" to Seiji, then I could probably ignore her obvious obsession as being just another side character, but she's the main character. She's always there. Always brooding over Seiji in various ways. Damn her friends. Damn her family. Damn the entire world if Seiji doesn't pay attention to her.
To be fair I liked all of the minor characters. I even liked the crazy otaku that thought she was a hand puppet (can't remember his name), but Midori was bad enough that I couldn't read any more. She was a horrible character devoid of any personality other than "I live for Seiji and will die without him. The only way to make sure I have Seiji is to become part of him. That way I won't have to live in fear of being rejected."
I don't know, I'll probably get the last volume (I think it's 7 or 8 volumes) since by then she should have effectly "won by default" and have gone back to her body to be with him for real. I'm pretty sure I don't want to read any of the in between chapters because I'll just get more pissed off at the situation.

I suppose you just took the whole thing waaaaaaaaaay more seriously that I did. I didn't approach it as more than a silly romantic comedy, and I was quite happy with it as that. I suppose, within that framework, Midori didn't seem particularly strange at all, although I as well did a double take at the whole <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>being ok with her mother's anguish over her being in a coma -- though for what it's worth, it's not like Midori blows it off. She's been sort of vaue about her reasoning thus far, so I assume there's something more to it</span> -- and even if not, so long as it makes me laugh, I'm happy. I found volumes 1-3 to be rather hilarious ::shrugs:: The premise was FAR too rediculous for me to look much more deeply into it than that.

For me, if you don't want me to take the plot seriously, don't present serious elements. Don't show that her mother is grieving at the fact that her daughter won't wake up. In fact don't show her mother at all. There are a large number of anime where the parents aren't shown or mentioned at all and this one would have been much more enjoyable for me if they had just followed along with that premise. Also don't show that Midori has problems with manic depression, low self-esteem, and obsession. I might be able to find one of those traits funny, but all three in one character makes them more than a two dimensional caricature.
Don't make Midori's real life situation into a drama while keeping her "Seiji life" situation a comedy. I'm going to take the drama elements seriously and that will affect my enjoyment of the comedy. She was not locked into her situation. She choose to be in that situation. There was nothing funny about her situation at all. Most of the other characters in the series were in comedy situations that I could laugh at, but Midori was not.
Besides, saying that the premise was far too ridiculous to look deeply into it is a bit silly when dealing with anime. The premise of Haibane Renmei is totally ridiculous, but it doesn't stop people from thinking deeply about it. There's nothing that states that comedies cannot be presented or viewed in a serious manner. If that was the case, I would hate the Patlabor movies, and the entire series of Maze could not have had the same ending where the secret behind Mei was revealed.

I guess it was just really simple for me... it's about a girl who becomes some guy's hand, which is, to state the obvious, a direct play on a totally cliche masturbation fantasy, and as such I can't really compare it to Haibane Renmei. Yes, sure, I get what you're saying about how comedies can have serious aspects. No argument there. GTO is a great example. But I guess it just never bothered me in the same way, because as of volume three we still don't really know what the heck is going on in this series (though its been a long time since I read vol 3 now), and thus I'm not too worked up about where it's going with the "serious" side of the story. I'm sure later volumes will work that out, and if not, I'll evaluate it as a whole and adjust my positive opinion of it then, if need be.
So, yes, your point of view is of course valid within your own approach to the story, and that is indeed what I was looking for when I asked in the first place. But I was also just explaining why my view is so opposite.
Besides, most anime characters are crazy bitches. I've been desensitized =P

Kozue Aoba (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=kozue9wx.jpg) (Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~)
Miu (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=miudears2rc.jpg) (DearS) vs. Yomiko Readman (http://img498.imageshack.us/my.php?image=yomiko2mn.jpg) (Read or Die) - Since I'm unfamiliar with both characters and the pictures of them don't really tell me much, I'll abstain on this one.
Misao Amano (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=misao3de.jpg) (Magical Project S)
Nemu Asakura (http://img498.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nemu6kh.jpg) (D.C. ~Da Capo~) vs. Konoka Konoe (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=konoka8vi.jpg) (Negima) - Abstaining for the same reasons above.
Midori Kasugano (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=midori1dt.jpg) (Midori Days) - Midori should have been defeated by Pepper (A Little Snow Fairy Sugar) last round, but I'll give her my vote this time since the Ichigo Mashimaro girl (Miu Matsuoka) who she's up against is the least moé of the girls in the show, if at all.
Chika Ito (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=chika7ra.jpg) (Ichigo Mashimaro) - I don't have any particularly strong feelings for this character in terms of moé-ness but that picture wins. Unfortunately the most moé of the Ichigo Mashimaro girls (Matsuri Sakuragi) had barely been eliminated by just one vote by a character who isn't even the least bit moé in comparison (Sora Naegino of Kaliedo Star) /images/graemlins/relief.gif.
Chii (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=chi0xn.jpg) (Chobits) - ...
Nyuu (http://img498.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nyuu0oh.jpg) (Elfen Lied) - Both Chii and Nyuu should be no contest votes against their opponents, but...we'll just have to see what happens... Also, just in case anyone missed them earlier in this thread, here are some Nyuu pics (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=1&Number=1292065&page=0&view= collapsed&sb=5&o=&vc=1) /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif.

A few upsets here...
Yomiko is history, Miu advances to face Kurumi Momose.
Mahoro is gone too, beaten by a worthy opponent in Misao.
Both IM girls are gone, Chi and Nyuu are defeated too.

Wow it's kind of impressive how well Kurumi Momose is doing. Especially since she's the plain girl of her series. Maybe her plain nature is what makes her so moe to many. If she wins the tournament it will be quite interesting and impressive. Plus I wouldn't mind her winning.

Holy crap! What surprising results from Bracket II!
First off, I'm very upset that my new "girlfriend" Kozue Aoba lost, but that was contered with Miu-chan beating Yomiko (which I don't consider an upset, BTW). Some people do know what they're doing apparently.
Second, the Ichigo Mashimaro machine got severly derailed with both of their entries out of the bracket. I'm both surprised and estatic that Mamoru is doing well in this tourney thus far. Can she possibly move on to the finals?
Thirdly, it looks like that I overhyped the potential Chi vs. Nyuu matchup because both girls are now out of the tourney. I would love to see how that match would turn out, but obviously that won't happen. I'm now looking at a possible Miu-Mamoru final in this bracket.

Hmm...very interesting results. It's somehow exactly what I expected.

Misao needed to avenge the loss of her best friend/rival, Sasami. So Misao went Pixy Misa on Mahoro and gave her a show that she'll never forget.

Sadly due to the fact at this point of our story, people have no idea that Pixy Misa is Misao, the judges are forced to give the win to Mahoro since Pixy Misa did not legally enter the tournament. Oh wait breaking news, Pixy Misa has convinced the commitee to let the win stand for Misao. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Well, it's obvious that Miu would get eliminated, since she's the brat of the quartet. As for Chika, I guess Sister Princess is a force to be reckoned with.
(wonders how Chika and Miu's defeat will affect the "Mamiko Noto" match in Group IV).

Ku-ru-mi! Ku-ru-mi!
I'm surprised she's lasted this long, her being a R2 girl and all.
(I hope Rabi-en-Rose doesn't kill me for how I'm indicating her progress so far.)

Misao is victorious, yay! /images/graemlins/happy.gif Pretty disappointed in Kozue losing, but that's the only thing for this round.

Now that you mentioned it, SisPri is performing exceptionally well in this tourney. I think SisPri had the most entries of all the anime represented in this tournament with 10 participants. (Chikage, Shirayuki, and Mami weren't nominated.) Their record so far is 9-5 I believe, with Kaho and Mamoru into the quarterfinals in their respective brackets. We'll find out later on how Marie, Hina, and Haruka performed in their third-round mathces.

Kurumi Momose (Pani Poni Dash!) 44 62%
Kozue Aoba (Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~) 26 37%
- Woah, major upset, in my eyes anyway. Behold the power of plain /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif Aoba was my favorite character in this bracket though, so I don't much care who wins this one now. Even Mahoro is out now. I guess I can rally behind Midori or, in a pinch, Arashi. ::shrugs:: But ah well, I do like Kurumi a lot.
Miu (DearS) 41 56%
Yomiko Readman (Read or Die) 31 43%
- I think surprises are completely the norm now. I didn't have strong feelings on this one, but I didn't think Yomiko could lose.
Mahoro Ando (Mahoromatic) 23 31%
Misao Amano (Magical Project S) 51 68%
- This was only surprising because I haven't seen Magical Project S yet, I think.
Nemu Asakura (D.C. ~Da Capo~) 54 80%
Konoka Konoe (Negima) 13 19%
- Both seem pretty moe, and I did vote for Nemu, but I didn't think she'd win.
Midori Kasugano (Midori Days) 60 77%
Miu Matsuka (Ichigo Mashimaro) 17 22%
- Heh, the first one that isnt a big surprise. The margin of victory is though /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif
Mamoru (Sister Princess) 47 65%
Chika Ito (Ichigo Mashimaro) 25 34%
- Looks like it really is down to Ana for the IM girls (shes still in, right?)! Droppin like flies.
Chi (Chobits) 26 34%
Rabi~en~Rose (Di Gi Charat) 50 65%
- Ooh, the moe poster girl goes down -- but it's against another one who can claim the same. I think Rabi got my vote anyways.
Arashi Shinozuka (Gad Guard) 50 68%
Nyuu (Elfen Lied) 23 31%
- Surprised, but happy, at how well Arashi is doing.
Anyway, sad to see the two I consider most moe in this bracket go down, but neither one lost to an unmoe opponent, so no major complaints.

Exactly! I mean, she's gone farther than the 11 year old MIT grad and the magical girl.
Of course, Becky faced much stronger opponents (coughRURIcough), not that Kozue is a pushover when it comes to moe -- shes just an unknown. Then again, so is Kurumi...

Kurumi/Miu/Misao/Nemu
- You know, I'd say Misao but with the way Kurumi is tearing things up, I really cant be sure /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif
Midori/Mamoru/R~en~R/Arashi
- My choice would be Midori or Arashi, but I think we'll see Mamoru vs Rabi~en~Rose. All four are ok by me though.
I guess the best thing about this round right now is that they're all worthy of the name, even if not all are really justified in being so far. At least this means we don't have to worry about people voting for no other reason than to be "rebels". Should be an interesting finish here!

Yep, Ana is still in, and the defeat of Chika and Miu may boost her chances of winning her match. Unfortunately, her opponent in that match has a "popularity booster" as well in the form of the latest Japanese chapter of Negima (hopefully, that chapter will also provide a boost for Yue as well).
