Draft Board (http://home.earthlink.net/~lamhirhofthestars/ad2006/)

And we continue onward. Round 1's done for, and round 4 will be posted when round 2 is about done. But enough chit-chat, let's keep things moving!

Again, when PMing me your vote, please include the round number in the subject. Round 1's results, including PM votes, are posted in that thread.

Mizuho and Pacifica, with a PM for Sosuke (I voted for a guy! Woah! Heh)

Wow... I didn't realize this round would be so hard for me. I was able to make 1 pick rather easily, but it was not easy to determine a second character to pick...

Well, there are still a lot characters that could beat With in my opinion, but he was the only one that stood out for me in what, to me, seems like a rather weak round.

*prances about, slapping up new campaign posters that read: "Vote Susumu!"*

Yay, time for round three! I have been waiting for this round... just for Susumu... /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

(Also, it was hard to choose a second vote... I ended up going with Tomoyo.)

This round is incredibly weak for a third round. Not too many people I care much for here, much less any real favorites. I gave my votes to Tomoyo and Hachirota, and my PM vote also to Tomoyo.

My votes went to:
Ken The Eagle ( Science Ninja Team Gatchaman )
Souske Sagara ( Full Metal Panic! )

with my PM vote going to Rosette Christopher ( Chrono Crusade ).
He's not fighting Galactor here but show Ken your support with your votes! And don't forget Kaori in Round 2!

Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto)
Mizuho Kazami (Please Teacher)

Ah the student/teacher relationship continues...PS Asuka the third place finisher of the 2k6 ASC will automatically be getting our full PM support, thank you.

Just for kicks, do any of you regret not nabbing a character in the draft that went undrafted all the way through and COULD have potentially emerged as a powerhouse?

Given the devoted rallying cry of many Princess Tutu fans, I'm thinking Rue would have been a solid late round pickup. Tutu herself fared pretty well in Round 1.

Rue was on my early long list, but she wouldn't have fit in with the (sort of) theme that emerged as I went along.

For round 10, I tossed a coin to decide whether to draft Seijuro from Kenshin or Yuko from xxxHOLiC. I think I would've felt some regret either way.

IMO, I think Fakir would do better than Rue. He was a pretty good last-round character for me last year, and with the R1 release further along now, I think he would have some added momentum.

Anna: Mutsumi doesn't seem to be getting any love this round. We need to fix this!

Kyo: You got a plan?

Anna: Sure do! FREE WATERMELON IF YOU VOTE FOR MUTSUMI!

Kyo: *rolls eyes* And just where are you going to get watermelon?

Mutsumi: I've got plenty. ^_^ *hold two up*

Anna: Great! Tohru, start cutting!

Kyo: Don't use Tohru as your maid! She's not even on this team!

Anna: Fine then, YOU start cutting! Mutsumi, go put on something sexy!

Not really this time. But it is due to the fact a lot of people overreacted to the last draft. They then threw together this Frankenstien Monstrosty of a scoring system to over compensate and now ar just figuring out that it just made more of a mess. Many are and still take this thing too seriously. Sadly it seem to be happening in the Moe tourny as well. Of course the Anime Draft has had more attempts to screw things up and is at a more advance stage.

Well, any way you look at it, it can't be denied that you did win the first round. Switching to the 1 point per PM would give you 28 points vs second place of 22; adding in the votes would give you 25 points vs 22. (Of the ties for second in the poll, only Nuriko had 3 PM votes, hence a lock for second, and the 3 point bonus for solo-second in the event of vote merger.)

I would, but give it to someone you like that could use a bit of help provided the rules stay as they are. That is what led me to use my PM vote for Mizuho this round. A couple of other people that I had considered using that extra-special PM vote for were on teams that are near the top right now, so I figured that I should give that vote to a team that really could use the help. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Hmm... I never did a stats post for this round, did I? Well, let's have some fun:

Total series with at least 1 character: 125
With 2+ characters: 42
With 3+: 18
4+: 8
5: 5

And ironically, until R.O.D. was retired, the last series alphabetically retired was FMA. Sticking to early letters, are we? /images/graemlins/tongue.gif Although only Q and Z weren't represented, so...

Before the PM votes were announced (voting for round 3 is closed), the top three for the poll totals were:

1st Yoko Nakajima (12 Kingdoms)
2nd Pacifica Cassul (Scrapped Princess)
3rd Sousuke Sagara (Full Metal Panic)

Unless Anna picked up enough PM votes for Mutsumi to overtake Yoko for the top spot when the PM totals are announced, it looks like we will have a new leader at the end of round three.

EDIT: We have a three way tie at the top with the PM votes announced, and Sousuke dropped to fourth place with Tomoyo racking up the PM votes to enter the three way tie at the top.

Okay, I wasn't planning on being here at this hour, but I am, so there's no point in delaying things. Here are the final results for round 3; last column is points earned.

Congrats to Famicom! Two in a row! Coach, you had the lead after the poll votes were announced, did you think you were going to go on and easily win the round? Are you surprised at the success of Yoko?

Congrats to Balthier! Coach, obviously this is the best result for you so far. Did you think the poison that is going to destroy the world was going to do so well? Did you count of Pacifica doing better than she did in 2004? Especially considering the show is now fully released on R1 compared to 04.

Congrats to TnAdct1! (I hope I spelled your name right /images/graemlins/sweat000.gif). Coach, with Sakura doing so well in round 2, this really isn't a surprise that Tomoyo did so well, is it? And you were the lowest of the co-winners before the PM votes were announced, did you think you had a shot when you saw the poll results?

Okay, I admit it, my reaction to most of the results will involve a “play-it-by-ear approach, since my team consists of a lot of “wild card choices (aka choices whose chances of success is unknown until the draft results come in) and a couple of characters who may have a big gauntlent to run since the main characters in their respective shows didn’t fare well in the recent rounds (i.e. Hughes and Kakashi).

However, when it came to Tomoyo, I had a feeling that she would do well in her round. For starters, Cardcaptor Sakura is a very popular title, and as you mentioned, Sakura did very well in round. Thus, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Tomoyo dominate in this round.

The second reason why I had confidence in her came on the form of her competition. While I began to get ideas to choose either her or Sakura once the Fast Draft began (after all, it was surprising to see that neither of them were Fast Draft picks), I strategized to save her until round three because I knew that there was going to be a lot younger females in round two, which meant that drafting her in that round would be a risk. Sure enough, that move payed off big time, since, as B-Rad pointed out during the Round 3 Drafts, there weren’t many “young and kawaii girls in that round, thus enabling moe fans (and, in a term I’m kinda reluctant to use, loli fans) to support her (BTW, this could also explain with why I went with Nodoka as my fourth round choice).

In the end, while I highly doubt I’ll win the competition altogether, it’s great to see that Tomoyo did very well in her round.

I'm gonna answer Famicom's question too hope you don't mind. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm incredibly suprised that Yoko did so well. Twelve Kingdoms didn't seem to have much popularity. I guess my endless recommendations everytime 12k was mentioned paid off for him. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

As for my question: Yes, this is the best result for me. And I definitly do not expect to get this result with any of my following characters. I knew Pacifica would bring in the most votes out of my team, but that's not why I picked her. Anime fans can't help but have a soft spot for her because of all she's been through. And shame on those who didn't vote for her /images/graemlins/tongue.gif As for Pacifica's results last year, I didn't research them and if I did I wouldn't hold much thought about it since it wasn't released on R1 yet. Take Kodocha for example, yea it's out but just wait, next year Sana will do better when her cool-crazy attitude seaps through everyone's hard skulls, unfortunately she didn't get enough exposure to do well this year.

Overall, I'd just like to say, I don't care Lupin bombed and got his pride stolen in Round 1, Sana the popular TV star was ignored, Pacifica ties for 1st place is all I wanted. Okay, had she taken 1st place and left Tomoyo and Yoko in the dust that woulda been better. But Pacifica is really the only character of my team that I absolutely wanted to take 1st and had she not I would've been extremely disappionted with the fanbase at AoD /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

So I'm happy, regardless of the end results of the draft, seeing Pacifica at the top is all I really wanted.

With all the poll confusion and seeming lack of vocal enthusiasm for her, I was expecting a middle of the pack finish at best here. But I had chose her because, like Lafiel and the Crest series, Yoko and 12 Kingdoms may not get much vocal fanfare, but their fanbases are loyal and the main characters are strong. Something a lot of my picks depend on. That and the sole PM vote was from myself, and I only did that in the last hours of the polls. /images/graemlins/devil.gif

Okay, I wasn't planning on being here at this hour, but I am, so there's no point in delaying things. Here are the final results for round 3; last column is points earned.

Yoko Nakajima (12 Kingdoms) 14 1 20
Pacifica Casull (Scrapped Princess) 13 2 20
Tomoyo Daudouji (CCS) 10 5 20

That's weird, my three votes (2 poll and 1 pm) ended up being all tied for first. I feel so ... mainstream and unoriginal. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

Actually, what it means is that you should sign up next year! If you're that good at picking the winners, then you should also be able to pick them yourself! ^_^

If I had picked any winners in the first two rounds, I might say you had something there, but I didn't. /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

I just vote for the characters I like, and these three were obviously well-liked by a lot of other people too.

As for participating next year, that's too far in the future to think about now. But thanks.
