View Full Version : Rainy series or that most of the time take place inside houses...

I love on movies/series when people have to stay inside their places because of a storm or something.
Are there series out there that most of the episodes take place inside houses... and if it is during rainy days or at night even better.
Thanks.

Wow...that's an obscure question. Can't say that I'll be much help on this (at least not right now...I'm too tired to think). However, I'd like to mention that a certain episode from Adventures of the Mini-Goddess boxed set (called "Rainy Day", episode 28), which by the way, is one of my favorite episodes of all-time, from any series. The title is self-explanitory, but one of the most intriguing things about it is that not one single line of dialogue is spoken for the entire episode. While that's not saying all that much considering the episodes (which are "mini" episodes, like the characters) are only 6 minutes long, it's a really moving piece thanks to an emotional musical score and some interesting visuals. It really captured the feel of a rainy day perfectly, and if you get a chance to see it, I think you'll agree it's an awesome episode in a highly-underrated show.

There. Go buy it. That episode is worth the price of the box alone, but the rest is icing on the cake. Particularly Gan-chan; that little rat is just fun to watch, and his VA's (either version) capture his patheticness perfectly.

Yeah, Rozen Maiden... I don't think they EVER go outside (well, unless you count that mystery mirror-world where their battles are). It's only available via BT right now.
I can't give you recs for R1 series because ANN is down for the moment and without my view list, I can't think of any examples.

Voices of a Distant Star, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal, and Cowboy Bebop all have their rainy days to them.
There are also typhoon episodes in Urusei Yatsura and You're Under Arrest.
And a not-to-be-missed snow episode of Tenchi Universe. Interestingly enough, Kajishima once mentioned that if he were to make a Tenchi movie in the OVA continuity, he would want it to be about the gang going on a picnic that gets spoiled by rain.

Thanks to all.
But, what I'm asking is not for some episodes like this.... but most of them.
Ok, let me give more details: I'd like something with the atmosphere of Witch Hunter Robin but that takes place indoors.

Try Gunparade March. Lots of quite moments and it's mostly indoors. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
Gungrave (http://www.kenoki.com/anime/gungrave.html) is not exactly what you're looking for, but pretty close. Especially if the mood of WHR is something you enjoyed. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

To be honest, I don't think there really is anything that's going to fulfill your expectations.

Which is sad because that sounds like a good show to me.

^Reading your sig... I think somehow Haibane Renmei qualifies as something he's looking for too.

Perhaps Haibane-Renmei...? While it's certainly not always indoors/rainy, it has a bit of both, and kinda carries the mood he's looking for (...I think. Feel free to disregard my opinion, of course). Not only that, it's an awesome show, so he wouldn't be suffering by watching it. That's all I can really think of.

OK, being two persons that recommend it, I'll look into it.
And besides, it has angels, and I love them in animation in particular.
PS
Can someone tell me in an estimated percentage, how many episodes take place the way I like them?

Oh jeez...it's been quite a while since I last saw this. I don't remember if any single episode takes place inside/rainy day in it's entirety, but there is definitely a lot of time spent in the boaring house. My memory is terribly rusty so I really can't be of help in any accurate form. Sorry about that.
Regardless, you will probably love this series.

You know, AoB mentioning Minigoddesses kind of hits the mark. Nearly every episode takes place inside the house; this is the MINI-goddesses, remember. But I don't think the atmosphere overall is what you are looking for, it is at least 80% straight comedy. I love the show, Gan-chan is a hoot, but I think you might want to save this for another time.
You know, the only slight possibility I can think of is Texhnolyze, and that just because it's very dark and set deep underground. I doubt taht is the sort of thing you are looking for. There are plenty of episodes that would fit the bill, from a whole host of shows, but nothing I can think of has a whole show...hang on, maybe Lain? I just thought of that one, I don't know.

Actually, after they mentioned Haibane-Renmei, I thought of LAIN. I haven't watched it but always wanted it. But still, I'm going to check Haibane-Renmei first.
And as for the one you mentioned, it seems very interesting so I'm going to check it out as well.
So, thanks.

The first episode is entirely indoors, and the last only has a couple minutes outside, but neither is rainy. I'd guess about a third to a half of the series is indoors at Old Home.
As far as rainy goes, there's only one or two episodes where rain is a major part, but it's done well. Several episodes involve snow, if that helps.
Of course, I'd highly recommend the series anyway ^_^

Seriously though Louie, Haibane should be at the top of your list, regardless.

Gungrave makes for good marathoning, as does Divergence Eve(especially if you want to, you know, udnerstand it) Berserk, and Hellsing, all solid series that can be watched, and enjoyed, consecutively, though this is still largely a matter of preference and what relaxes you, for example, some would not see DE as a viable option simply for how layered the plot is, if you don't want to think, DE isn't quite the way to go, but that's just my thoughts...
Also, I remember reading once on ANN that Jubei-chan was a good, light, rainy weekend watch with no real substance, and purely from my opinion this is a lie, as there are so many layers to that show that just talking about the idea that they aren't there makes somewhat...perturbed. However, it does indeed make for a good, quick run through, as the series itself takes place in about a week-and-a-half...

Lain might not be a bad one for you to look into at some point. Even most of the scenes that take place outdoors have a very closed-in feel to them.
