I've been following these threads too, and have been reluctant to ask. It looks like a tournament, but with some sort of mystical selection process that I don't understand (kind of like the BCS I guess). /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif

[/ QUOTE ]I am completely lost too! It would have been nice if it was explained what was this all about, for those not involved. Maybe the people playing know what it is, thus using email would have been more appropriate. /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif /images/graemlins/stunned0.gif

This is our version of March Madness. All of the anime are renamed College Basketball teams. You can't really say Duke Blue Devils without getting in trouble. It make March Madness more fun. The most unusual series can win it all. I wish they would do it for the Women's Tournament. All Shoujo titles for the teams.

Be glad to explain!

back in 2002, just for giggles, Wolfie came up with this half-crazed idea of matching 65 animes with the 65 teams in the men's NCAA tournament...the first year was on the Moonwings website, but the viewer demographics were pretty bad...so the tourney came here to AOD Sports in 2003

for those who care not for the glut of callege basketball, it lends a nice anime-twist to the proceedings...so you can cheer on 'Team Sea Slug' instead of North Carolina....or back in 2002 when we had the pretty girls of Sailor Moon (Kansas) go up against the pretty boys of Fushigi Yuugi (Illinois)...it is fun to think about how some of our faves would fare against each other on the field of athletic competition!

Usually such things are put to votes and usually the better-known series wins such a contest...but what i decided to do was.....nothing. Let the real game play itself out, and when the NCAA team wins, it's corresponding anime team 'wins' and advances...

Back in 2002, I randomly paired 65 animes to teams and let the tourney play itself out as described above...that first Final Four was Sailor Moon (Kansas), Urusei Yatsura (Oklahoma), Mononoke Hime(Indiana), and the 2002 champion, Macross (Maryland). From that point, i kept pretty much the teams and animes paired except two years ago, in response to fans of one anime that is rather popular around here, I started a 'Lucky Dog"...a popular anime that would get a second chance by being hooked up to a 'presumably' better team..and THAT is voted on by the fans! (Incidentally, the winner of that first Lucky Dog parlayed their new hookup quite well...Azumanga Daioh got hooked up with North Carolina which won last year...so The Daiohs are the defending (2005) Anime Champions coming into this years tourney.

And of course, on this coming Sunday, I'll announce the 65 animes competing (although you already know a few already) and after the Play-in game next Tuesday night, after each Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night for the next three weeks afterwards. i'll be posting the results of the day's action...until we have our Final Four...and our 2006 Champion

Just remember, the only dumb questions are the ones not asked...

Oh, before I forget, Wild Arms and Kiki's Delivery Service got tickets last night to the Big Dance!

This will be the last Tournament update as such....now Wolfie has to work on everything else before Sunday night!

Well, Wolfie fibbed...a bit....

I can tell you that with some of the upsets today, The Slayers and Majocco Club among the victims, that the bubble has gotten a bit smaller and many teams are trying to play their way into the tournament....and those who only days ago thought they were safe for a bid may now suddenly start to sweat out the weekend results and pray for no more upsets!

It's an interesting idea if nothing else so I have to give you credit there.
