View Full Version : Where is a good place to SELL dvds to?

I have a couple titles that I'm not so crazy about having anymore, and the extra cash I make by getting rid of them will help me buy more new titles. I sold a couple to my online store, but the cost of shipping really cut into my return.

So where are some stores (preferrably in the Mass area) that will give fair rates for buying used copies? I'm thinking Suncoast or FYE, but I'm sure there are better, more obvious places.

* store credit only is fine since I'm just going to use the money to buy more anime

** oh whoops, I thought I was posting this in the Retail Section. A mod can move this if they think it's better in that forum.

FYE isn't to bad. They actually pay top dollar on DVDs. They usually give you half the amount, that they are going to sell it for. For example, if they sell your DVD for $15.99, then will you get $8 for it.

Really? Damn. That's pretty good.

Is there any way to get a rough estimate on what they will sell something for? Like based on MRSP? Or does it vary on how old a title is?

I wish FYE had some kind of online pricing to tell what they'd buy it for instead of having to drag all the DVDs down there. Animenation (http://animenation.com), Secondspin (http://secondspin.com) and Digital Eyes (digitaleyes) all buy used DVDs but AN and DE both only do in-store credit. SS gives you the option of credit or mailing a check. They all have different prices, so I'd try each. Although, AN has some nice prices for bricks since they do it by discs although their store prices are pretty high so take that into account too.

Does SecondSpin have good quality used items? How about Animenation or Digital Eyes? Prices look good...

I've purchased several used discs from Digital Eyes and never had a problem with any of them. The discs are always flawless. The cases have had minor wear on occasion but the cover art was fine, so if I had a problem with a case I'd just swap it out.

My only "warning" would be that if you are using trade-in credit during your purchase at DE it takes a little longer to process the order for some reason. Their CS said for a while that their system added a delay for some stupid reason and their tech support was working on it; that was almost a year ago though so the problem is likely fixed by now.

No, the price varies from how old the titles are and how much stock they have of it. For example, if they have a big stock of title, then you are going to get less. However, this isn't a problem with anime, except for the more popular ones (Inuyasha, GITS:SAC, and FMA). The best way is to give them a phone call and ask how much you will get per item.

When I traded in Gungrave volume 1, I got $7.50 for it (sold used for $14.99). While I only got between $3.75 - $6.25 on each Inuyasha DVD (they sold for about $9.99 each used), because they had several used copies on certain volumes.

FWIW, I traded in the first 13 volumes of Inuyasha. The first 6 volumes I got $6.25 each, while the rest I only got $3.75 each.

I just checked the link you provided, and indeed, there are lots of titles listed, but they all say 0 Left. Which just might be a inventory glitch...

Actually, it might have just been a matter of timing. DE will take their entire inventory of used DVDs offline for days at a time as they update inventory. Annoying when you want to place an order that includes used DVDs. Just keep checking back.

This is something I have wondered about also. I have 5 Steel Angel Kurumi DVD's I want rid of. (1-3, 2.1, 2.2) I have checked wherehouse.com, but they only get $3 each.

Isn't wherehouse.com the same value as FYE?

Thanks,

I have a place in Madison, WI, though the prices are pretty much set in stone in terms of anime. When I traded in Maburaho Vol. 1-3, sure enough, $18 total ($6 for each volume). I was thinking, "But the ARTBOX! Shouldn't that count for a little extra?" Apparently not.

Really? oh, didn't even notice... well I know now that they have at least 15 used dvds now because I broke down and decided to sell to them. I had more DVDs that I wanted to get rid of than I realized... mostly my Evangelion original release discs since I just bought the platinum from amazon.com. It's funny, 7 of the 8 discs are $3, but volume 4 is $7.98, oh well. Next step is to take the package to the post office. Depending on the weight, it's going to cost between $3 and $11 for the media mail shipping option. That's not as bad as I thought it would be, I think last time cost more because I bought insurance.

wow, that's odd, if I were you, I woulda just kept the artbox and sent them the disc. Then you could have sold the artbox on ebay or something.. plenty of people out there are looking for just art boxes. I had the same problem with DE.. sorta. Some of the dvds I sold them were never even opened, but I still could only get the "used" price.

Then Digital Eyes sells those "used" DVDs for new prices. I recieved many DVDs that I could plainly tell were used, but when I asked them, they said that they wouldn't issue an exchange because "all items they sold were new". New my ass.

really? it was the opposite for me when I was the purchaser: I bought used discs that were still shrink-wrapped, perfect condition... probably sold to DE as an overstock item. They seem to have pretty rigid standards as far as the used dvds they'll accept. They won't take them if they have fingerprints on them... well, according the argreement they emailed after I submitted my quotes.

Some don't have UPCs, which is what I'm more worried about and some that do have those drill-holes in them. Otherwise, the discs and packages are perfect thanks to my obsessive-complusiveness /images/graemlins/happy.gif
