Keep hoping for a R1 license...even of the 3 Mitsuru series I have already. Only 2 left to get, H2 & Touch. (unless I missed any others, Hiatari, Miyuki & Slow Step are the only others made into anime & gone DVD)
Anyway, going back to Touch, when does it happen in the story, what episode (or volume)?
Do the movie & OVAs give the series & characters any closure or finalisation of relationships etc?

The Slow Step OVA has not come out on R2J DVD yet. I wonder where you purchased your set of the Slow Step OVA DVDs.
One of Adachi's first manga titles, Nine, has been made into 3 TV anime movies/specials (circa 1983~1984). No DVDs out yet for this series either.

What it? *Smiles innocently* /images/graemlins/sdsmiley.gif
Are you sure you want to know? If so, you only have yourself to blame -> <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>Episodes 25 and 26 - with Episode 25 strongly hinting and Episode 26 driving the fact home</span>.

The 3 theatre-released movies are a condensed retelling with some timeline differences but substantially the same - preferably watched after the TV series.
The 2 TV movies/specials are taking it further ahead by a few years. The first of the specials is set in university/college days while the second is a couple of years after. TV series ending does give the initial finalisation while the TV specials accentuates the depth of the relationship and develop it a bit more.

Even though I have the R2 box, I would so buy an R1 release of Touch.
Your questions were already answered so excellently, I'll only add that I thought the OVAs were quite good, also. They do take the characters a bit farther in their lives. If you like Touch, I see no reason why you wouldn't like the OVAs.

Sorry, Slow Step is the series I own on VHS. I was writing as a collector of "Anime on Anything". /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
It (I've read the manga) will influence how/what quantity I might buy batches of the R2s.
The 2 specials that follow TTV are what I'll get. Movie re-tellings can come later, if at all.
BTW, what Touch movie was Kyosuke & Madoka watching a scene from in the 1st KOR movie?
Thanatos
03-15-2006, 06:00 PM
Kyousuke and Madoka from KOR Movie are watching Touch Movie 1.
FYI Useless trivia: to return the favor, all three of KOR TV's OPs are used as background music tracks in the Hiatari Ryoukou movie, which was on the double-bill with the KOR film.
That's Toho love for ya.

*Adds movie 1 to list*
Generally, are the Touch movies edited together compilations of the TV series, or are certain scenes re-animated &/or re-voiced? Are there additional scenes that add to the story? What has been cut, apart from filler/flashback episodes?
AFA the specials, following Touch TV & movies, do Miss Lonely Yesterday & Crossroads being made in 1998 & 2001 respectively, have much better video & audio quality?

Wrath of the Njr asked:

[/ QUOTE ]
As far as I can tell, mostly newly animated scenes and newly voiced.
[ QUOTE ]
Wrath of the Njr asked:

[/ QUOTE ]
There are some scenes that are added to make the movies flow smoothly and scenes added that let the characters clarify some of the thoughts and feelings which are not in the manga nor the TV series. Mentioned in my earlier post that the timeline of certain events has been changed. There are of course some scenes cut too. Do note that there are about 4-5 recap episodes in the total of 101 episodes of the TV series and little filler if you compare with what was presented in the manga.
It's obvious that you are asking in a roundabout way whether you should go and buy the movies rather than the TV series. If you want the version closer to the manga, get the TV series. If you just want the core elements, live with a number of changes and want the characters to be a bit more expressive of their thoughts and feelings than the manga (and the TV series), then the movies have that advantage due to the need to get the message across in a shorter period of time.

I was thinking the other way round actually..get the movies in addition to TV, not instead of /images/graemlins/stunned1.gif
However, after reading your reply on the charcters being more expressive, I might get the movies first after all. At this stage I'm not a Touch addict. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Be interesting to hear Noriko Hidaka in another role, perhaps her Minami in Touch is what attracted Anno to cast her as "Noriko" in Gunbuster, (similar to casting Kotono Mitsuish as Misato in Eva after her Usagi/Sailor Moon). I also see Hiromi Tsuru has a smaller role.
edit/add. Specials are cheap R3. £4.93 each, or £11 Prowaremedia (TW) for Miss Lonely. R2J set released 26/3/06 cheap for R2J.

IIRC Anno chose Hidaka Noriko as Takaya Noriko in Gunbuster after being impressed with her performance in Totoro as Satsuki (particularly in the shouting scenes).

I love Hidaka Noriko's voice acting. My top 2 favorite anime characters of all time are both voiced by her (Minami in Touch & Noriko in Gunbuster). She has a rather distinct voice that she's been able to fit into a wide range of roles. I was surprised when I realized that she was voicing Jean in Nadia.

Need to watch Totoro again.
I guess Noriko is best known in R1 DVD-land as Akane Tendou in Ranma & more recently Kikyo in Inu Yasha.
Gunbuster was my first Japanese track anime ever & Noriko impressed me with her emotional voice acting there. Also my first Japanese seiyuu, so a good introduction (then Kotono followed as Misato in Eva).
Noriko was cool (or hot!) as Miss China in Spirit of Wonder as well.

Nah, hardly. At least here in Sweden the censors are seriously lax (the South Park movie got a 7+ rating!) and they even have a dedicated section to alternative/mature comics in the library here in town. I think (s)he just meant to say published, although edited doesn't necessarily mean that things have been cut/censored.

Thanks, that's fantastic! If only a UK release of those titles could be done, especially the DVDs (w/ additional English subtitles) as they are already PAL/SECAM transferred.
Are there any French online stores, other than Am. Fr. that might sell to the UK? Also what/type retail outlets in France sell the anime & manga, only specialist or general?
BTW did Kimagure Orange Road get a DVD release in France in any language.

So, for buy french dvd one of the best is Manga Distribution because there is a lot of choice with very good price (especially if you buy the card) but the problem is than i don't know if they send out of France...
http://www.manga-distribution.com/md/index.php
The other good website is Fnac.com , it's a famous store in all of big city in France, it's like Amazon. The price can be good, or somtime very expensive...
http://www.fnac.com/Shelf/default.asp?NI...amp;bl=HGVIarbo (http://www.fnac.com/Shelf/default.asp?NID=1486928&RNID=%2D3&SID=904cd8b5%2Db 3b7%2Db6fd%2D59da%2D7041d57b67fc&Origin=FnacAff&Or derInSession=1&UID=040dbc633%2D2fef%2D89d4%2D84fa% 2Dff048a6917ab&TTL=210320061909&SubjectId=1486928& bl=HGVIarbo)
(sorry it's very long lol...)
And the third good website is http://www.zemanga.com/ .I never bought here but the price are very good and i hear lot of good thing about it.
For KOR, yes we have 2 type of box, 2 box for the series in jap sub frech, and 2 box with french language. We also have the 2 films in 2 collectors box.
(the problem in france is the very large number of box just for one series...
for exemple, for the series Fruits Basket, we have 1 box with jap sub french, 1 box wth french, 1 box collector with jap sub french and 1 collector box with jap sub french + french...)
A very good place for test of french, US and some jap dvd:
www.dvdanime.net (http://www.dvdanime.net)
(i find that the test are the best of the net lol ^^)

My movies set (R2J) & the 2 specials (R3) has come at last. Got it all now on disc.
The movies are in a digipack, but the card is thin as cereal packet for both outer sleeve & disc folder. Matt surface. Disappointing for R2J quality IMO.
4 booklets are included - 1 for each movie - with character illustrations, seiyuu photos & text. The 4th is a summary of the movies using the same screencaps.

The booklets for each movie are reproductions of the movie programmes that were made available during the respective movies theatrical run back then.
And yes, the 3 movie DVD set comes in a disappointing thin cardboard sleeve but is is cheap (by R2J DVD standards, that is).

Touch TV Specials (http://mall.jsdvd.com/product_info.php?products_id=4883)
Touch Movies (http://mall.jsdvd.com/product_info.php?products_id=4884)
The TV series is on sale for 400 TWD which is roughly... $12. That's ~$50 for the ENTIRE series, as opposed to $50 each for 17+ volumes. $12 or... $900.
As far as whether they are officially licensed, it is my experience that nothing sold on JSDVD Mall's site is bootleg. Could I be wrong? Yes.

As I said in my original post, JS DVD Mall doesn't sell bootlegs. And considering there are quite a few Catalyst Logic titles available from them, I'm going to say they are an official licensee. As I also stated, my experience with Proware releases (another official licensee) has been that they closely match (not always on target) the R2 releases. If Catalyst Logic is the same way, then anyone who wants Touch will be rather lucky and getting off cheap.
I ordered the complete run (minus the OVAs and movies, I'll worry about those later). I'll check and see if it is remastered or not when it shows up and answer anyone's questions. At $50 it isn't like it's all that expensive a proposition. Well, after shipping it'll probably be ~$70-$75, but whatever.

I've had my eye on those sets for quite some time. They were pretty expensive before (they're still ~$70 at YesAsia) but I thought about getting them now that they were on sale, along with the rest of AnJ.
For what it's worth, Catalyst Logic's Ashita no Joe sets use the same master as the R2s, although with added edge enhancement. That remaster was not as elaborate as the one for Touch however (AnJ has dot-crawl and doesn't look that hot, Touch was probably from a new telecine) so if I had to guess they most likely used the LD masters.
I actually also e-mailed YesAsia a month ago and asked if they perhaps knew if they were remastered and I think they were trying to say that they weren't:
[ QUOTE ]
Referring to your enquiry, according to the information provided by our supplier, we are sorry that the remastered video version of your requested item is not available at this moment. For the Taiwan version which you mentioned in your email, it is of Dolby Digital 5.1.
[/ QUOTE ]
However it's also possible that they're trying to say that the remastered R2 box is not currently available or something (I also asked about the highly suspicious 5.1 audio, which apparently was correct, though I still don't believe it.)

TV specials & movie set are both Proware label (who did Eva DTS, Air, Kiminozo & Akane Maniax), LPCM audio. That says re-mastered R2J copies to me. I'm getting the specials, already have the R2J movies.
TV series audio "Dolby Digital" says nothing. Are the R2J DVDs LPCM?
I presume they're still mono... I'd like to upgrade from TTV VCDs but if the R3s are only LCD master dumps, the difference might not make it worthwhile.

Do you know how the Taiwaness describe those Catalyst Logic releases? They describe them as "landmines" So don't hold your hope too high

Is that an observation on quality or availability?

Well, like I said, once my set arrives I'll let you know. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
For me, DVD, unless it is compressed all to hell, is always better than VCD, even if the DVDs come from LD masters. That's just me though.

I've ordered them all apart from the movies which I have already.
If they are disappointing its no big loss.
Shame other Adachi Mitsuru series are not R3 released as well.

Well, I ordered mine last night (Touch TV) and got the bill for shipping tonight. Anyone in the US looking to buy, expect to pay ~$30-$35 for them.

That's not too bad. Since I have the R2 box, I'm not gonna get this.
I am, however, seriously considering getting Ashita no Joe, and the 3 Yamato series. Hate to see the shipping for all of that. It should still be much cheaper than buying R2, though.

Yamato seasons 1-3 + all of Akane Maniax (w/box) was ~$35-$40 if I remember correctly. I don't know how many discs AnJ is though, so it could be a LOT more than that for shipping...
