Where do the Inu Yasha movies take place in the continuity? I haven't seen any of them and I don't want later episodes to be spoiled...

They don't really fit in with continuity as they were all written by the anime writers. Only one character from movie 2 appeared in the TV series but no other events of movie 2 were brought up.
But a good indicator to watch would be what episodes the movies were released after.
Movie 1 was released after episode 54.
Movie 2 was released after episode 95.
Movie 3 was released after episode 136.
Movie 4 was released after the end of the TV series (episode 167).

Another Inuyasha question I'd like to ask (I know this has been asked before but I couldn't find it with the search function): Which episodes of the 167 are filler episodes? I want to buy the series on DVD but I don't like fillers, don't care for fillers and don't want to buy fillers. I know the first fifty-somewhat episodes are true to the manga, and from there on of the fillers come in right?

Yeah, season 3 is where they started catching up to the manga, so there's quite a few fillers from there up until the Shichinintai arc, which is pretty much all canon. After that there's a lot fillers again for a while.
Anyway, there's quite an awesome chart here (http://www.inu-papa.com/inuyashagoya/kiroku.html) you can look at that lists out all the episodes and color codes them to differentiate the canon eps from the fillers.
