Whee. Discuss and lament away everyone.
I recommend the Ranma 1/2 Movies...quite funny even if like me you haven't yet seen any of the TV or OVA series.

I'm buying the last of Maison Ikkoku and the first of Full Moon. Yay! Two excellent series that I recommend whole-heartedly.
If my manga wishlist wasn't so huge I'd probably pick up Boys Over Flowers as well.
I recommend:
Saikano
Fatal Fury Movie (And the OVA isn't half bad either, and you'll need to watch it before the movie)
Key the Metal Idol
Video Girl Ai
I'm getting the last 2 boxes of Maison Ikkoku as well as the Inu Yasha movie 4 and the third season set. I am unsure if I want the LE or regular sets though since I have no idea what the LE contains. I guess I'll order both and cancel whichever one I don't want when the info becomes available.
Everybody needs to get Maison Ikkoku. /images/graemlins/catgirl0.gif

I would get MI...but alas...I be far too poor to get enough of a chunk of it to justify. I'm on a path of getting the cheapest of the cheapest and working my way up from there...build the variety and such. Also, only having somewhere under $200 a month to get any anime with has stark limitations /images/graemlins/cry00000.gif

Fatal Fury Double Impact and Motion Picture
Inuyasha Movie 4

Definately getting SaiKano, on the fence about Maison Ikkoku. Not because I don't know if I'd like it, but because I'm halfway through Urusei Yatsura and I don't think I should start on another long Rumiko Takahashi show<G> My shelf-space forbids it.

support one of the most fantastic series ever! Great characters awsome action, and I'd have to ask Jarred my good pal, but I'd classify it as sports anime too.

Each box will cost you $27 with the GA discount. 12 episodes for that much is better value that most shows out there. And you don't have to buy it all at once. I'd recommend picking up 2-3 boxes right now and the rest later.

Absolutely - even one box is enough to justify - $27 or so for 12 episodes of one of the best shows ever made is an incredible bargain.

Key the Metal Idol has a great cast and an engrossing story that keeps you guessing until the end. For me it was one of those shows that kept me on the edge of my seat dying to see what happened next. It's one of my favs.

Isn't there some issue with the DVDs themselves? I don't remember exactly what it was, but there was something that prevented me from upgrading my VHS release...

I think there was some pretty poor video on the single DVD's (ghosting?) which I have, but I think it was fixed for the collection (don't see it mentioned in the review).

Everyone is severely tempting me on MI. I guess it'll depend on what the weekly/daily deals wind up being between now and the last day of the Viz sale. I've been telling myself for months now to pick up Hyper Police from the movie packs section before it disappears...since last time I got the old City Hunter deal like 2 days before they wound up discontinuing it! Jojo and the Yamato Movie Set are also things I'm paranoid about and on a lookout for a TRSI discount on.
Arrgh! So many shows...variety vs big time...

When you place your order, be sure to double check your email confirmation if you're a "Got Anime" member. It didn't apply the extra membership discount on my order at all, so I had to call and have them fix that.

Good to know. Haven't ever had a GA discount problem before...but if they are having a hiccup lately I'll be sure and pay careful mind. It can be some serious dough on a bigger sized order.

I may have missed a prior discussion on this, but has Viz given any indication as to what the LE of Inuyasha Season 3 will be? The first two limited edition gifts, while unique, weren't quite the kinds of things I was interested in paying a premium to get... especially because the LE was just the regular boxset attached to an item.

That's the same problem I have. Should I order the LE or not? I liked the plastic necklace in the first box, but those rubber stamps in the second set were kind of useless (even though I bought those anyway). I also have a problem with the fourth Inu Yasha movie because there might be another Best Buy exclusive ala the third movie's soundtrack.

I picked up Saikano. Been waiting awhile to get this one and this sale was too good to pass up given it's regular price. Also, preordered Maison Ikkoku Box 8, Full Moon volumes 1 and 2, Inu Yasha Movie 4 and Season 3 Box Set. Pretty much took care of my Viz orders from now until the fall.

Does anybody know if the Ranma 1/2 movies on the new "box set" are the same as the original R1 singles?
The reason that I ask is because I noticed that the running times for the singles are 74 and 60 minutes, while the set is 148 minutes. I wonder if one of those is wrong or if the movies on the new set really do have an extra 14 minutes.
In any case I will probably get the set.
I will definitely be getting the Ranma 1/2 OVA set. I am not a big fan, I actually stopped watching the TV series after the second season, but 12 episodes of the OVA for $27 is too good to pass up.
I will also get Maison Ikkoku 7 and 8.

Maison Ikkoku Box #8
July 4th is so far away. But I'm pre-ordering this gem right now. If there are any anime fans facing a drought in romantic anime, I would strongly recommend Maison Ikkoku. One of the best.

I just did a quick browse on all the eligible anime for the sale. Would anybody care to tell me about Key the Metal Idol? How is it? Does it have a solid ending?

It's a good show with a solid ending that wraps up the story, however it's not exactly a happy ending. Key does have a few issues with pacing. While I wouldn't call the first 13 episodes filler, they bring up many plot points that are all explained during the last two OVA. This can become a bit confusing as you try to keep track of everything that has been going on and then receiving a flood of information all at once. Not only that, but the last two OVA are movie length (90 minutes) while the other OVA are a more normal length (about 30 minutes). So your flood of information comes in large doses of narrative. It may take multiple viewings to keep track of everything that happens at the end.
I'd suggest Key if you like shows like Lain, Boogiepop Phantom, Armitage, or Ghost in the Shell. I might add Texhnolyze, Heat Guy J, and Gungrave, but it's not as action oriented as those last three (or action and comedy in the case of Heat Guy J). If you don't like serious sci-fi or have a problem with long exposition, then I would suggest avoiding it. It's a good show but it would only give you a headache at the end. /images/graemlins/happy.gif

I've been waiting for long for such a clarification on this show... I know very well of Ghost in the Shell and a bit of Lain, Boogiepop Phantom and Armitage... Nothing about the rest... But still enough to imagine where I can place Key the Metal Idol on my list.

I love both series but advise prioritising MI. UY can be bought at other places for low prices, & may be around for longer generally. MI is only sold through Viz & RS, & needs support now to encourage the licensing of its OVA & movie as well! Besides MI becomes increasingly addictive, while UY remains episodic & dulls down as it progresses toward the end.
MI boxes 5 onward are rare on ebay - to get them cheap & while still available, RS Viz sales are the only way.

Here are a few I enjoyed:
Please Save My Earth - great shoujo story involving reincarnation, love, loss, and madness. I only wish more episodes had been made.
Boys Over Flowers - long-running shoujo romance with a tough, likable heroine and unpredictable love triangle.
Flame of Recca - fun, tournament-style ninja anime with a female character who's clever and can fight at the same time.

Probably pick up Maison Ikkoku box 1 and maybe 2...possibly some Hikaru No Go as well. Is Saikano chock full of nudity or does it have good plots.

Azumangaman said:

No, there isn't much nudity in Saikano. It's a drama/romance about the end of the world. Two people who don't really know about love are trying their best to get together; however one of them happens to be a weapon used to fight off invaders. It becomes difficult for them to be together as tragedy strikes their friends and family.
The plot is okay, but not "super amazing". The main draw of Saikano is the drama and character interactions. Unfortunately for me, I found the drama done to the point of not being effective. I personally didn't care what happened to most of the characters as, due to the series length, they didn't have a sufficient amount of time to build up their personalities to a point that I would care.
Regardless, I know many people got much more out of the show than I did so I would suggest that you give it a try if you like watching depressing shows.

Are you using thin or double disc cases yet? I do for longer series like UY & MI. Saves a few feet of shelf space initially. Shorter & single volume releases stay in their original cases.

No. Thats something I'll never get... some people I know won't get drilled product from the ADV sales, but will cut up their covers to convert to slimcases.
It's a space thing, but I prefer leaving them where they are in their cases. Looks better on the shelf.

Well, my recommendations were wiped out when my old account was accidentally deleted by admin, so I guess I repost mt recs.
From Viz, I recommend Ranma 1/2, Inu Yasha, Saikano, and Ceres. The first two are long action/comedy shows from Rumiko Takahashi, so they may not be suited for those thay hate long shows.
